I'm sure somebody has already made a post about this, but whatever. Don't get me wrong. I'm really enjoying the Un'Goro expansion. I think the meta is as good as it has been in years, however, the new quest mechanic...kind of sucks. Every quest deck I've played just feels so gimmicky, worse of which has to be Taunt warrior. Forcing archetypes is just bad for the game. A card that is guaranteed to be in your starting hand? Come'on. We don't need Blizzard designing decks for us. Anyone play this weeks tavern brawl? Ugh, you know what I mean? Not to mention, you have to either have a shitton of money/gold/dust to even craft these quest legendaries, and half of them are practically garbage anyway. Quest hunter-unplayable, quest priest-meh okay, quest paladin-unplayable, quest druid-meh. Of course, I'm referring specifically to ladder. I'm happy that non-quest decks are more dominant in general. It just goes to show that the HS community is better at making decks than Blizz. ^_^ I'm not salty, just disappointed. I can't be the only one. Thoughts?
People will defend existing quests because they were released after absolutely horrible cancerous metagame, where lots of people really gave up on this game. So of course it's a breathe of fresh air. ANY change was good. But, if they would release it, for example, when Control Elise Warrior was popular and there were so many variations of control decks and... boom, here are you quests. Play taunt minions!.. I'm sure people would be more disappointed then they are now.
Most of the quests are poorly made. That's obvious for me. I like the whole quest concept, but I think Blizz were in a rush to release them, so they made them plain simple - play that, summon that (like garbage filler quests in some games, where you have to bring X something to somebody). BUT... I hope they will release more quests in the future and those will be more fun/not obvious/challenging.
While I agree that the quests as they are tend to be rather dull (if not outright cancerous and flagrantly imbalanced), I'm not sure I'd particularly blame the mechanics, per se. The mechanics (play quest, play themed cards to fulfill the quest, get quest reward, profit) aren't inherently bad as far as I can tell, but the parameters of the quests, and how balanced they are with each other certainly leaves much to be desired, IMO. At best, the quest system is an incomplete design--scarcely beyond the proof of concept stage. At worst it's just another half-assed money grab from Blizzard.
Just because the last meta sucked doesn't mean this one is great. It just means standards are at an all-time low.

You actually answer yourself. Quests are not dominant.
They are just cheap solutions to support some archetypes that would be weak otherwise.
In the process, they open up and define their counters.
They contribute to variety. Not brilliantly, but effectively. Hence they are not bad.

This thread starting on a non-constructive note and got worse from there. Locked.
