I was contemplating doing the pre-order for the upcoming un'goro expansion because I prefer the price point of $1 for one pack. I generally think that's what the price should be, but obviously they are free to set their own price. I'm a free to play player with the exception of buying the Karazhan adventure and it really bummed me out that there will be no adventures this year. I like having most of a set in order to craft different decks and try out different things, and the revealed cards seem very interesting for deck building. I realize that 50 packs doesn't guarantee every legendary or epic, as RNG in the packs and pity timers and such come into play. I do hope to get a nice chunk of the cards that are in this expansion.
I was curious about other people's experiences with previous pre-orders, as a percentage, roughly how much of the expansion was a pre-order able to get for you?
This expansion is pretty ass. I would suggest just saving up your gold the traditional way and spend the money on any unfinished adventures or a future expansion.

I personally think the revealed cards look like things I would enjoy trying and playing with. I've certainlly been saving my gold to be able to purchase more packs on release day. Have you pre-ordered previously and regretted it?
If that's how you look at buying packs, don't bother buying it. As a F2P, you are going to be disappointed no matter what.
Could you explain what you mean by this? Being able to have 250 cards (around 350 cards with saved) gold on launch day sounds like good fun, not disappointment. Did you pre-order MSoG and regretted it, or do you simply think this expansion doesn't look good?
It really depends on luck. Some people got a lot of good stuff from the preorders, others got almost nothing in terms of epics and legendaries.
I never open only the preorder, so i cant tell exactly. However, there are 135 new cards, and 50 packs will give you 250 cards. Also, the pricing is the cheapest one, so yea i'd go for it, imo you will get probably about 75%+ of the commons, 50-60%+ of the rares, and a minimum of 1 legendary and 5 epics according to the pity timers (worst case scenario). Nice bunch of cards to start toying with the new expansion.
2-3 legendaries on average, 2k dust or so and perhaps half the epics in singles. I'd say that is my pre-order experience.
But given that adventures are now out, I'm personally not buying any more HS stuff. I felt like a pack pre-order was fine given that it was surrounded by adventures where you got all cards, giving you a solid window to collect the collectible expansions.
But now I see that keeping reasonably up to date with collecting will require a lot more purchases or an insane increase amount in time spent. I don't have the investment in the game to do that. I'm also not seeing any indication in the new expansion that HS is going away from its design creed (over the last 3 expansions) of favoring simplicity over complexity (I'm not saying it should be worse, but about equally good is not to much to ask?). Team 5 at this point feels like an RPG-storyteller that punishes every other tactic than doing your most basic attack.

Spot on.. better just to do quests and save for expansions from here on out.. it's going to be hard to invest the resources in this game now that adventures are gone.. which i'm sad to see go.. also nice fallout avatar
I've preordered every expansion and haven't regretted it. Opening packs is fun! I also have had luck on my side.
That said, now that they've switched to 3 expansions a year, which is $150+ financial commitment/year, I'm reconsidering my commitment to the game. I have enough gold and dust saved up to get most playable cards anyways.
When you buy a pack you are NOT buying an epic, rare or legendary card but a CHANCE to get it. So yes, pre-order probably will not give you all the cards you need or want but you didn't buy it anyway.
What do you mean with getting 10 packs for free when pre-ordering?
I did it, so will I get 60+ packs instead of 50+ or what?
No. 50 bucks is the regular pricing for 40 packs. By buying the preorder, instead of 40 packs you get 50 packs for those same 50 bucks, therefore you are getting a "bonus" of 10 packs, compared to the regular 40-pack bundle in the store.
The value on a pre order is high, i pre ordered Whispers of the old gods and i got a nice chunck of cards to play, i was chillin.
That plus the gold u already have, if u like to play many decks is worth to buy the pre order since u get 10 packs for free.
If u have 30-50 packs in gold saved u may consider not to buy the pre order since u will have a good chunk anyways. Also they will give a lot of dust if u have Sylvanas and Rag, that's 2 legendaries for free in dust.
I played TgT and Mean streets with only 20-30 packs on gold at the start (Because i don't play even a bit when i get bored so i don't have much gold coming back xD) and i was kinda chillin playin like 2 or 3 decks the first week.
Buy it if u want to chill and have money for like a videogame, this expansion is your videogame instead xD

They're still going to have Adventures baked into expansion releases starting with the next expansion after Un'goro, and are likely going to implement some other new reward schemes to make it easier to get more packs.
I'd say that the cards we've seen so far are generally quite solid. It's hard to evaluate exactly how the meta will shake out without experiencing it, unfortunately. A lot of key cards are rotating out and we don't even have a complete picture of the new set.
I will say that Un'goro is going to be the foundation for the next year of competitive play and will remain relevant for the next two years, so you'll get a lot of mileage out of the good cards, and at least a few of the legendary quests are going to be core components of new meta-defining archetypes that'll be around for the next two years.
If you only focus on Standard, now would also be a good time to go back through at least Grand Tournament so you can disenchant any of those cards that aren't good, interesting, or that you have no attachment to. Dusting obsolete cards, especially golds, epics, and legendaries, will give you a decent leg up in crafting.
Also keep in mind that you'll be getting refunded the full crafting cost for all the cards being added to the Hall of Fame. Assuming you have all of those (and at this point you should), that's at least 3640 dust. More if some or all are golden.
I pre-ordered everything so far, and never regretted each one, because it's very easy to have virtually a playable set from just the pre-orders. It's not uncommon to have all the Commons and Rares, a handful of Epics, and in my experience 2-4 Legendaries. Sure it takes luck to get the right Epics and Legendaries, but that's where the Dust comes in. I think the sudden extra Dust is an upside to buying 50 packs outright (instead of grinding via Arena), so you can just look at what you're missing and craft whatever. Plus, I see no value in Gold cards to that's even more Dust.
I'd say it's worth it if you've got the money.
A lot of F2P players love to put down people who buy packs, but that doesn't mean much if you have disposable income. $50 is an hour's worth of work for me, and an hour of work for a relatively playable collection? Definitely worth it, so it really depends on what kind of player you are. If you've got time to play, just get good at Arena and grind it out there.
don't waste any $ on this game, you will regret it! (lesson learned here)
it's a very expensive game and not worthy! (you will not get something special because most of the ranked players are non-f2p like you, and this game is not actually a f2p game)
and just for your info: if you wanna get most of the good cards from any new expansion: you will have to open around 200 packs (min)
another important note: all the recent expansions were very bad (only the GVG [first expansion] was OK) don't waste your money!
Blizzard keeps increasing the number of expensive cards [legendaries + epics] for each expansion (so P2W players will have to pay more) + they have increased the prices of packs
and they've already said that they will make 3 expansions for each year (instead of 2) good luck saving 20000g for each expansion
I also wanted to preorder, but I don't have a credit card, I don't want to get one and Blizzard doesn't accept Paysafecard, so I'm afraid I won't be getting the preorder. Plus, after getting two legendaries out of 70 packs of Mean Streets of Gadgetzan I'm not really leaning into spending actual money on packs.

If you got the coin, the Mercenaries get going. Vote for The Mercenary for CCC #3.

Only 2 out of 70?
I got 10 out of 80 :p.
