Hi everyone. I come here from fellow curse site Muthead and just started Hearthstone a few weeks ago. Just completed the single-player unlocks and have only been playing online for a few days. I have a lot of elementary questions, like how to best spend my gold and what Legend status means and how to grind toward it. Is there a sticky or thread on here to help with some of the basic information? Thanks.
I don't think there's a general thread for beginners, so I'll answer a few of your questions here :
If you want to learn how to play the game, the best thing is to actually play, in Arena or in ranked mode. You'll get to know the cards better.
You can also watch streams or VODs of people like StrifeCro, SuperJJ, Firebat or Savjz for instance.
Don't worry to much about getting to Legend in the first few months, it takes a lot of time and a good collection (for most legend-viable decks) to get there.
Concerning your collection :
To build your collection, the best way is to reroll the 40 gold quests and / or the quests from classes you can't play.
The best way to spend gold depends from one person to another, a lot of people on this website will tell you that arena is the best way to get gold and packs but you need to know the game to perform there. I'd stick to ranked and buying packs from the shop while you're learning the game and move to arena later on.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask ! Good luck.
an addendum, even if you are losing at arena, it is a great place to learn about curving out decks, and in general when to trade, and when to go face, that kind of thing. I was a great control player before arena, arena made me a great all around player, playing a face deck improved knowing when to go face (some people aren't aggressive enough). and you can break even at 2 wins, you will usually break even at 3 (sometimes I even get more than 50 gold at 3 wins, meaning I did better than break even), so if you are a decent player to start out, I don't think arena is a bad place to start especially if you enjoy it. You can use hearth arena to track your first 30 games or so, it will help you pick out curve, look at how much reach you have in your deck etc, in general it will get you thinking about deck building in a different and better way. Eventually when you get good enough you can stop using hearth arena. I still use it once in a while as a sanity check. Also heartharena will help you start understanding what makes a 'good' card. If a card is rated low, you can think about why it is rated low.

I used to be a control player like you, then I took a quick shot to the knee.
