Hi there - I'm new to playing HS (currently experimenting and having fun around rank 14/15). I have a couple of questions I was hoping to get some help with.
I bought a bunch of card packs and I have cards enough to build the most common decks. My gameplan so far is to build a familiarize myself with the most commonly used decks. Until now I've played aggro shaman mid-jade shaman, pirate warrior and I'm planning to try out dragon and reno priest next.
Anyway, on to my questions.
1) Once I've learned the ropes, what are some good decks to climb with? Currently I'm 18/18 with aggro shaman, being beat mostly by pirate warrior and 13/11 with pirate warrior, losing mostly to priest and other warriors.
2) Who are some good players to watch youtube/twitch videos of? For obvious reasons I prefer the players that comment a lot. So far I've watched Sottle and Furo (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSfpbb9IK2V76OkjfxRT8KA) videos.
3) What kind of winrate should I expect as a new player? And how many games is a reasonable sample size?
4) Any other tips and stuff that I should look into or be aware of?
Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully comment :)
"What kind of winrate should I expect as a new player? And how many games is a reasonable sample size? "
Winrate is honestly a messy thing to really read in hearthstone. Remember that the game is dedicated to pushing you to a 50/50 win rate. In casual, winning a lot of games (high win rate) means your mmr increased and, thus, your opponents get harder. In ranked, it means higher ranks which, again, means tougher opponents. An absolute pro could net about 70%+ win rate easily against the folks below legend, but then shoot up quickly to legend where they get closer to 50% again against their peers.
So honestly, as far as skill is concerned for 99.9% of the population (I'm NOT exaggerating that number) win rates overall isn't so useful as it is win rates vs matchups. That is, what's important for you is this:
1. what decks are you facing.
2. Are your decks suited to taking down most of the folks you rae facing. Not all, of course, but over half of the decks?
3. Is YOUR win rate againts those good matchups matching what it should be.
Thus for #4, track yur wins. Get hearthstone deck tracker. Get other programs I may not know about but are also probably good too. Use paper and pencil. Use SOMETHING, but track the games, track who your opponents are (at least class if not the deck).
So long as you are uding the decks that can tangle against YOUR opponents and you are playing the deck good enough to bring the win rates you should get then you are doing well. As far as "well what win rates I SHOULD be looking for" anything over 50% is honestly good. Note that the pros, against similar competition, dance on the streets ta a 60% win rate. Getting above that is for BAD matchups or opponents FAR below your skill level.
I like to watch Kolento (fucking genius), Amaz (he's fun) and StrifeCro for a mix of both. All damn good players anyway.
In case you haven't yet checked the beginner vids from trump on youtube, do it. They're great, especially if you have little experience with card games... simply awesome.
Do anything you want because in a month or two Blizzard will nerf the broken synergies that make the pirate decks and Jade Druids work. Renno will rotate out of standard soon so Rennoloc and Renno Mage decks will be busted too. You'll try to adapt but then some new cards will be released with broken synergies so you won't be able to compete unless you buy or craft cards to make the decks that are overpowered in the "new meta".
A pro is really just someone grinding out a lot of games with decks exploiting the current unbalanced card synergies - there are usually 3-4 top tier decks that get played over and over - ladder rank doesn't mean much other than the amount of time spent grinding a top tier netdeck. Of course the pros are pretty good at grinding those decks - there are always some people better than others - but really the game doesn't hold as much promise for long term growth as you would think.
So make sure your Pirate Warrior is card for card identical to a list from one of the top rated decks then grind it over and over again and watch your rank go up.

StrifeCro is good, Amaz can be watched just for the memes, trump has recently been misplaying hard so he's not too good. Also whenever you watch hs on YouTube, I'd highly recommend you to select 2x speed option, because this game is way too fucking slow to watch at normal speed.

Aggro shaman is the best deck in the game right now, it is actually quiet hard to play especially in mirror matchups. People will tell you its braindead and boring though because its powerlevel is just so high that most of the time you just win because your deck is good. As a new player I don't think you will find any kind of deck boring though, so you might as well play the deck and go on ladder to see what are other people doing, and you might get inspired. In higher ranks like rank5 to legend, any winrate above 50% is good enough. In lower ranks I think you can get over 90% winrate with the deck.
As for streamers, everyone has their own favorite, if your looking into learning stuff, searching on youtube is the best way, just try find the deck you want to see.
If there is anything I want to say it is that this a game after all. It is fun, inspiring and more fun.You just have to find what aspect of the game you like the most. Also, don't netdeck too much, it only restricts your creativity, it won't help increase your winrate or anything since you don't understand the deck.
Instead of finding a T1 deck, I suggest improving your play with a deck you like. I use HSTracker to track my decks and games, and its latest version allows you to connect to HSReplays. You can "record" your gameplay, post it here and ask questions. Alternatively, you could just watch better players play with the deck you want and learn. Some streamers like to explain their plays, so you'll learn a lot from just watching.

1. Learn to master a deck.
2. Kibler and Firebat.
3. The more the better. I say around 100 games.
4. Find your mistakes and correct them. Play a deck you like. Climbing with a deck you like is more fun then playing a deck because it is T1.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
