I'm fairly new to Hearthstone and have already spent some money on the game. I have bought Naxx (which is pointless to this thread as I'm referring to Standard Mode) and have pre-purchased the WoG card packs. I have also opened about 20 Classic packs in total from questing.
When WoG comes out I would like to be somewhat competitive in Standard mode (competitive for me is to reach at least rank 20, preferrably rank 15). I know to be ultra competitive you'd best buy everything, but that's not how wallets work unfortunately.
I'm looking for an order in which to best spend my real money on the game whenever I can/want. Do I buy the other adventures first? (BRM>LoE, LoE>BRM?) Do I first get more classic card packs (I'm still missing cards like Pyroblast, Wrath, ...) or focus on TgT packs?
Some advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
ps. I generally like to play Druid, Mage, Priest and avoid warlock and rogue. - If that's a helpful consideration.

You're going to have a very easy time, friend.
At the moment, since you've only opened about 20 Classic Packs, I suggest you open more of those, since they're kind of like the base set and you'll need that the much going forward.
The safest bet on the long run is classic packs as they won´t be cycled out. A bit more short term, however, I´d go with adventures first and (if you don´t want to deeply delve into dragons) I´d prefer LoE over BRM anytime. Saying this, LoE is easier to grind with ingame gold as it has one wing less. Your call. Just not TGT packs :-)

Battle doesn't need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I fight.
Classic packs by far! LoE will be around for awhile yet, so I would pick that up as you can; BRM will be out with the next adventure probably around this fall. You can still get at least one wing as the dust ratio to gold is very high if you will not be playing any wild format.

Get a bunch of classic packs. Complete your standard quests and get the 10 free packs of the new expansion. I would also purchase LoE. I would then just wait a month or two and save up your gold. You will get a feel for whats being played more, TGT or WotoG. I wouldnt bother with BRM as it was released a year ago, so it will have the shortest life span in standard.
Classic > LoE > TGT/WotoG (scout out the meta first to see which is more important) > >> BRM (this is a luxury pick, really mostly dragon synergy here.)
EDIT: i would reconsider avoiding warlock. They have always been the most flexible class in the game. Zoo will always be good. Handlock will always be viable. Druid just got nerfed to the ground. My main advice to you would be to NOT dust any of your classes just because you dont play them. You will want to play them eventually and you will regret dusting those cards.
Try to get classic packs every once in a while besides the ones from "watch and learn" quest and tavern brawls, as it's pretty much the core of the game. How relevant WotG and TGT will be in standard, we don't know as of yet.
As others have said, you won't have any trouble hitting Rank 15 every month even with a very modest collection. Keep grabbing those free Classic packs and check out "budget" deck lists to get some ideas for cheaper competitive decks. It worked for me my first month playing.
I've checked out some budget decks, though I can't use many of them due to not having all the cards; but they've given me some ideas to work with. In the meanwhile I'll hold off on spending 'til a while after WoG release and only buy classic packs with gold. Cheers for the info. Much appreciated.
I think the WOG + free packs may be enough to get what you want for the upcoming expansion. Other than that, I suggest buying basic/classic cards then probably LOE (Reno/Elise/Brann/Finley are too good)!
All that aside, I really think C'thun druid and standard ramp druid will be good this exp, and their basic cards are still strong!
The adventures are fun. So there's that. Blackrock was the toughest challenge of the three. I'd avoid TGT; very few essential cards came from it, and if you find that you want to play Control Warrior, you can always craft a Justicar Trueheart. Classic packs are a safe bet, as those cards aren't going anywhere.

Just so you know, BRM will be part of the Year of the Kraken (2016), and won't rotate out until the first expansion of 2017, along with TGT and LoE.
This question would be better answered a while after WotG releases, since no one knows for sure what decks will be best.
Naxx has the greatest value of them all, hands down. Blackrock has its stars like Emperor Thaurissan and Blackwing Corruptor, while League has Reno Jackson and Jeweled Scarab. If you have a small collection, probably League, I guess.

Forgive me, friend. I have failed.
Real Money: Adventures and Pre-Orders.
Gold: packs and arena.
So, buy the adventures, they're mandatory to be competitive.
And if possible, buy mostly classic packs, since the majority of necessary cards are there.
TGT, only craft the necessary cards.
