If you play Hearthstone and haven't heard of the new expansion coming out next week, Whispers of the Old Gods (WotOG) then it's time to wake up! So far we've seen about half of the cards being released, and I thought now would be a good time to talk about how it will effect the classes.
What do you think will be the best class after WotOG gets released and why?
So far for me it looks like Druid and especially Rogue will benefit. Druid because of the ramp and these huge minions that are coming, and Rogue, well, because of shadow caster. The combos with this card will be endless and she (shadowcaster) will single handedly bring the Rogue back. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments below!!
I really can't fathom why you might like any of the rogue cards. As someone who plays an unhealthy amount of rogue to a pretty good level, I think they are all horrible.
I think the 8 mana hunter card is a massive mistake, their poor balance team have slipped up again.
Ill guess hunter, with shaman running a close second.
Hunter because of Call of the wild, and Princess Huhuran. These cards are very strong in my opinion, can swing entire games to your favor with little to no presence.
Shaman because of Master of evolution, and Thing from below. These cards are powerful, and add tremendous pressure, but require little more planning ahead of time.
Edit: Those are just the main cards that stick out of my head whenever I think of the next expansion.
druid, Hunter, Mage and Shaman are the ones that looks good, not because they got amazing cards, but rather because they are losing less than others, or gaining cards that can compensate a little what they lost.
I think the best cards that have been shown so far belong to Shaman. Literally every card released for them will see play in standard. Quite OP too even. Especially like Master of Evolution ^^
Warlocks have gotten Cho'gall, a very strong card for their late-game decks, and the just nice Possessed Villager.
Shamans have gotten cards that mostly aim to strengthen their mid-range decks, but aggro shaman should be fine unless Doomhammer gets nerfed.
Priests have only gotten Shifting Shade so far. Their future, like always, seems gloomy.
Mages gotten the ultra broken tempo card: Faceless Summoner and the useful in grindy decks Cabalist's Tome. Tempo mage should still be around and do just fine in standard. Freeze mage has been mentioned several times as a target for the upcomming nerfs.
Hunters will always have the face.
Druids seem to be going towards a ramp and C'Thun direction.
Warriors... whirlwind-y tools have been appearing to replace other whirlwind-y tools in patron, but they seem mostly worst. So, patron could drop a tier. Control Warriors are almost always around, i dont see why this should change.
The only thing i'm seeing is a... aggro(mostly shaman and hunter), maybe mid-range shaman, tempo mage, and ramp druid fiesta. So: Shaman, Mage, hunter and druid. I hope i'm wrong, it's really hard to make accurate predictions without seeing the nerfs and all the cards.
We havent seen everything but if the meta will truly slow down, then midrange and combo decks should dominate. Depending also from the changes Blizzard will make on existing cards, I see midrange shaman being quite strong.

Great post. I hadn't seen the proposed nerfs to Freeze Mage, can you link it for me?
Also, I don't think Tempo Mage does fine in Standard. A ton of losses for them, and with only 3 cards left to reveal not much has been replaced.
Druid and Rogue Druid because of Klaaxi Amber Weaver and Dark Arakkoa (?), however their classic and basic cards may see some nerfing shenanigans Rogue, mainly because of Shadowcaster
Rogue. You won't be happy with a branned shadowcaster with concealed malygos, yogg sarron or cthun, then shadowstep into brann cthun. You'll rage quit
Ugh. Hopefully this is trolling? If you are able to conceal Malygos, then you win the next turn regardless of shadowcaster. All of these "epic" shadowcaster combos are too hard to pull off and require like 3 turns of playing with yourself instead of responding to your opponent's threats.
I think midrange shaman got a nice boost from this expansion. Finally a shaman deck will compete on the ladder besides aggro.
Personally I think most classes benefit from C'Thun and I think every class except maybe Hunter will at least try to have some way of making a C'Thun deck work. On paper, it seems that Druid and Rogue will have the best time with C'Thun decks (Druid with ramp, Klaxxi Amber-Weaver and Dark Arakkoa, and Rouge because of their normal Rogue shenanigans), but theoretically, most classes should be able to do something regardless of their class cards in this expansion.
At the same time, I would say Shaman because every Shaman card revealed so far has been pretty solid. I know what people said during TGT but Shaman really could become a big class in the Standard rotation because most of their really good cards come from the Classic set and the TGT set (and so far the Old Gods set is following that trend), and in GvG, they only really lose Crackle and maybeWhirling Zap-o-matic.
I'm a bit confused with all the mage love. I have yet to see a card that I will use in standard.
The summoner is nice, but I don't see myself pullling Sylvanas or the Emperor for it and the Black Knight is looking like an awful tempting add.
Servant of Yogg-Saron is more likely than not to help you than fireball itself or buff an enemy, but there is no way in hell he sees play over Azure Drake or Ethereal Conjurer.
Cabalist's Tome is a maybe in a control deck, but the price and the randomness don't seem to jive. Gaining two cards to your hand is pretty awesome and it will be better than nefarian's draw, but we will see.
Twilight Flamecaller is a maybe if one health minions are actually a thing in standard.
The frostcallers stats are junk for his price and his effect is super random. I don't like him at all.
Forbidden flame is terrible. Yes it's flexible, but are there really going to be tons of times where I can cast another thing first and then have enough left for the removal I need it to be when a fixed price spell that can go face or have a better damage ratio wouldn't have worked? I don't think so.
Druid and Hunter are my bets for best class, that is if hunter finally can move into a midrange deck.

While i agree with you that the majority of cards are being overestimated and that the class will not be OP top tier or something, it will still be playable and i think(and hope) it will still have at least 3 decent decks, its a class with a lot of unique and cool tools making it flexible enough to survive w/e meta we will be in.
As someone that plays a ton of Rogue, shadow stepping a 10 cost creature or putting Shadowcaster on it is a pipe dream and also a win more. I'm not sure how a class that primarily does damage with a weapon is going to survive a fatigue battle when they have very little damage mitigation or heal.
Right now Shaman and Paladin are the best classes so far. People are sleeping on the 1/3 murloc card and Steward of Darkshire but when a Paladin can spit out murlocs that means Murloc Warleader is a solid replacement for Quartermaster and solidifies the early game so Secretdin can be almost as cancerous as it is now.

Finally, someone speaking some goddamn sense. If you can shadow step a C'thun and play it again you've already won.

I don't know but it seems Mage really does seem to have nice cards... nice curve to nice tempo
"You live or you die..."
It's difficult to tell when we havent seen the damage mitigation tools.
Best class huh?
Rogue has gotten only Xaril, Poisoned Mind and maybe Yogg-Saron, Hope's End so i dont see rogues beeing too strong with the cards that we've seen so far.
Paladin with N'Zoth, the Corruptor. Ragnaros, Lightlord, Forbidden Healing and Deathwing, Dragonlord could do some dragon control healadin thing but the meta must probably slow down a lot for that to make any sense.
Warlocks have gotten Cho'gall, a very strong card for their late-game decks, and the just nice Possessed Villager.

Rogue. Because Brann, Shadowcaster, Shadowstep, C'Thun.

Lion King: Alternate Ending ;3
My recent fav Control Priest loses good cards in standard but gets burst with Embrace the Shadow and Corrupted Healbot.
I think a new Patron Warrior will emerge with whirlwinds and Blood Warriors that will be hard to beat.
In standard druid will be on top, even if the infamous combo is getting nerfed. Mage, and we haven't seen them all yet !
In wild, hunter probably.
But we should wait and see the other half of the expension.
