After procuring an expert pack by defeating the expert AIs, I was disappointed to draw two wisps in a row. Then, I was rewarded the Legendary card Onyxia. I don't fully understand the synergy of her Battlecry, though. I understand Stormwind Champion would boost them, but what other benefits could I pull from a field full of 1/1 Welps? Also, what deck would "Lady Katrana Prestor" do well in?
I see her played in shaman decks now and then. With a big bloodlust finish. But usually she is more of a gimmicky card, and therefore fits better in gimmick decks.

People generally don't play Onyxia because it's too slow, but if you bait removal you can make it work. It works best in a Token Druid since you can combine her with Savage Roar for a wombo combo, but Cenarius is the more solid alternative.
She can be surprisingly effective, mostly when coupled with buff cards (savage roar, bloodlust, etc) - Often times Onyxia will get removed on the next turn, but equally often the whelps will get left alone. If she's taken out with a direct removal card, it's great. If she's taken out with some sort of spell combo including something like swipe though, it sucks. As others have said she's a very situational card, but her lack of popularity makes her surprisingly effective. If, however, she were as popular as say Ysera, she'd be a lot less powerful of a card, as odd as that sounds, because people would be more aware of how to deal with her.
Onyxia is a 14/14 for 9 if played on an empty board. She's a good card in almost any control deck, especially when combo'ed with Savage Roar or Bloodlust. Your opponent has to use both a single target and an aoe removal to get rid of her and her whelps (if their board is clear). She's almost always going to give you a 2-for-1 at least. Just don't use her against a warrior who still has a whirlwind and a frothing berserker. =-P
as a ramp druid if you can bait out aoe removal like swipes and lightning storms before you put out onyxia you can have a huge combo, ive done a double savage roar+power of the wild onyxia and took out a control warrior from 30hp+12 armor to 0. its kind of hard to get the combo to work but when you get to play it its the most satisfying feeling xD
After a turn summoning Onyxia and assuming her whelps survive, activate Soul of the Forest as a Druid and get yourself some nice 2/2 Treants, plus the attack damage of the 1/1 Whelps XD
You can't really build a deck around her because she's not very good.
I would add that building around any one card is bad, no matter the quality. (With a slight exception maybe to miracle rogue).
All these people telling you what she combos with are more or less playing into the illusion that your opponent can't deal with a bunch of 1/1's. In the current meta where anti-aggro aoe clear is very prevalent, you aren't going to get to keep all your whelps to then summon a giant or soul of the forest or any other combo.

Even Miracle Rogue isn't built around 1 card. It's built around three: the Gadgetzan Auctioneer, Shadowstep, and one of Leeroy, VanCleef, or Malygos. The finisher you chose informs how you build the rest of the deck.

Onyxia can also work well in decks that have a Sea Giant or two.
Found this trick on a video:

She's not very good atm because druids are so popular. Swipe+BGH owns it completely.
