My own version of a cheap and effective Tempo Mage. Looking for feedback and constructive criticism is welcomed. Would love to build a deck as a community as a whole. The deck comes with a video to my own YouTube Channel that you are all free to check out just by clicking on the deck if you would like to. Nonetheless, thank you for clicking on this thread, and have a great day and night!
Looks really cool, Ethereal Conjurer is slowly becoming one of my favorite cards. You should try Spellslinger, I play him in my tempo mage and he's pretty good and fun.
Definitely agree with you, Ethereal Conjurer is definitely a pretty good card in my opinion and is definitely a target that your opponent sacrifices his board to clear. Spellslinger is going to be a card I will have to experiment with because I haven't had too much experience with it, I just do not like the fact it gives your opponent a spell too.
I see your point with Emperor Thaurissan but in my opinion, I like it due to the fact that it is a big late game minion that could have the effect of giving you lethal from two Fireball and a Frostbolt, not only that but it has good synergy with reducing the cost of spells and minions which in the end could have an overall great effect with Flamewaker or dropping a Loatheb and Ethereal Conjurer on the same turn.
The reason I run Mind Control Tech is because there are many games when you are trailing behind on board as you say and the opponent just overextends by that one minion or let's say drops a Dr.Boom, you usually have a great chance of getting Dr.Boom and if you do not get him, a boom bot is always useful as you can ping it, and adding a 3/3 to your board never does harm to yourself. I also really like it because when you face zoo, it could have a positive effect in terms of countering them, but it is all up to RNG. Mirror Images were replaced for it, so I don't really mind placing it in the deck.
Big Game Hunter On the other hand is a card I usually use and is very effective because not only is it able to clear anything with 7+ damage but for 3 mana, having four attack is a threat against any minion especially being a Mage, on the flip side, it does only have two health and it is best used with the battlecry so I can definitely see your point of view.
The last point with Piloted Shredder and Water Elemental, i'm currently testing out Water Elemental, I also enjoy Piloted Shredders but decided to give Water Elementals a chance. Now I would run Arcane Blast with an Azure Drake, but I am a F2P account, so I don't really have the dust to create it, and do not feel it is completely necessary.
Archmage Antonidas definitely replaces Emperor Thaurissan but I am a F2P card, and I do believe that Emperor could have a lot of synergy with this deck, and from experience playing a Tempo Mage with Emperor last season, I could say it definitely has it's perks, but also has it's downs. I have Mind Control Tech because it is inevitable to stop a zoo from dropping four minions from an Implosion let's say, or an opponent from gaining four minions from Dr.Boom and everyone does run Dr.Boom so it is an extra counter for any time it is over extended, and if you find no use to it with that, it is a great 3 mana card in terms of stats that could kill a feral spirit wolf versus aggro shaman at any time.
Just had a few scenarios where Mind Control Tech and Big Game Hunter came into play. Top decked a Big Game Hunter against Combo Druid even after I had lost board to the obvious Dr.Boom. Came back to win the game, Druid had already used both Force of Nature to clear my board so there was nothing I could've really done to ensure that my board would not be lost.
Also faced a secret paladin that got really greedy with his Secretkeeper [/card]and made it a 11/12 with some secrets and double [card]blessings of kings. Was able to Big Game Hunter it and FIreball a Mysterious Challenger to ensure the victory. Mind Control Tech came in handy because it is a good statistical 3/3 that I was able to drop, forcing him to trade in his Secretkeeper which was a 7/8 at the time, because it served as a threat along with my Sorcerer's Apprentice.
Mind Control Tech Stealing a Dr. Boom in a mirror match up also led to an instant concede, making a video today, hopefully it could demonstrate these cards in action.
Unfortunately, today I was not able to record a video that did include Mind Control Tech and Big Game Hunter in action, but it is always awesome to face a secret paladin and make him concede super early. I hope you guys enjoy it, and don't be afraid to show feedback and comment on suggesting on what to change in the deck, it is an open discussion.
So, just to keep up to date, we are currently advancing one rank per day at an average of maybe at least five games a day. Not having too much free time to play, but that won't stop the grinding. The plan is to hit legend with this deck and we are not necessarily far, but we aren't close either, the only difficult thing about hitting legend is the time consumption it takes to hit legend. Anyways, I had a very good game versus a Patron Warrior which in case most of you don't know, it is literally the death of most Tempo Mages. Fortunately enough, I had the luckiest game, I think I have ever had in terms of using unstable portal and was able to counter him completely! And you are also able to see Emperor Thaurissan's purpose in the game and how he was able to change it magnificently! Anyways, have a great day and night!
Yeah, you are right. I am F2P, I never claimed that this deck was the most innovative or new deck out there, I just claimed it to be my own little fun edition of Tempo Mage and a much cheaper edition, considering it does not have Antonidas. Thanks for commenting although, have a great one!
Some Mage decks run Thaurissan, usually for a big combo with Antonidas or Malygos and a heap of cheap spells (from Rhonin or spare parts). I don't really see any big combo set up by your deck. I don't see really crazy amounts of hand-filling either, no Echo, Duplicate, Coldlights... You draw / discover a total of 6 cards, not much for a Mage deck. You'll run out of cards before you run out of mana. Your Thaurissan is a beefy 5/5 and a combo bluff, but not more.
As for the rest, it's fairly standard tempo mage. The most common version of this variant (secret package, no Tony) runs Ragnaros as extra finisher and Shredders instead of Water Elemental. Should be fine though. Maybe we should make a thread with an F2P version for each current top tier deck. Secret Pally with Thaurissan for Tirion and Keepers for Shredders?
I never said it greatly differed from the standard deck list, I just clearly stated that this was my own version of the deck. A few cards although that I know that the standard version does not normally run are 2x Arcane Intellect, Loatheb, Big Game Hunter, Mind Control Tech, Emperor Thaurissan. Now, I know that many do not believe Thaurissan has great value but it truly depends on when and how you use him. There have been plenty of times that my opponent has found a way to clear my board and leave me with nothing but a hand of spells that are useless unless I want to go all out, and what Thaurissan does is it not only gives me a huge body but also discounts those spells, so whatever I draw will most likely be able to have an impact right away on the game. This is my personal opinion on the matter and I respect yours as well because I see where you are coming from.
MCT and BGH are probably not worth it. You are a tempo deck, so you can't really afford to have minions sitting in your hand waiting for the magical christmas land scenario for them to shine. Sometimes they work and they are awesome (as with any tech card), but this is not the right deck for them. You should be the aggressor, not play reactive answers which may or may not be useful.
I feel ET isn't worth the slot either. By the time you cast him your hand is probably already kinda small and he doesn't affect the board in any way (besides being a 5/5 taunt, which isn't that big of a deal). Honestly, I'd rather have a shredder or a drake or something like that if you don't have fancier finishers like Rag or Antonidas.
In my build, I also like a single Forgotten Torch since I can usually cast its worse half as removal, then get a discounted six damage burn later on in the game.
Yeah I have been thinking of replacing the tech cards with maybe Forgotten Torch, but in so many scenarios I have gotten extremely lucky, or just played them on curve because of their stats, sometimes, yeah it doesn't work out and it's a dead card, but when it does it's pretty magical and it has a surprise element. So far, it's working for me, but as soon as I feel like it has become useless, I am definitely going to consider Forgotten Torch. Because that is basically 9 damage for 6 mana.
Finally learned how to quote :D, didn't know that by pressing reply, I was not directly replying to the user, at least I don't think I was.
