Competition #22: One Thing Led to Another...
I want to thank everybody for being patient with me and Murloc last week while we figured stuff out during our first full competition moderating, especially given that we had a theme much more challenging than usual. This week, though, rdeegan (winner of Competition #19) has brought us a much more open theme that's sure to get everybody thinking about conditions and consequences.
Entry Restrictions:
Your card must have at least two effects, the second of which must depend on either...
Existing Counter-Examples: In the interest of clarity, I want to give some examples of what we're NOT looking for. Although some cards have second effects that seem tied to their first, they're not actually outcome- or result--dependent, so we're NOT looking for cards like Far Sight, Naturalize, or Power Word: Shield. Although some cards have secondary effects that replace their first, they're dependent on factors totally outside of their subject or target, so we're NOT looking for cards like Eviscerate, Kill Command, or Mortal Strike.
Competition Rules
We, the Fan Creation Forum Moderators, may edit and/or disqualify your entry if you neglect the competition's rules, so please read carefully. These measures are designed to ensure everyone has a fair and enjoyable experience during the contests!
You are allowed to submit one (1) entry per competition. Your entry must be a card of your own creation. You may add minimal comments to explain your card's design, balance, and/or qualities. You may not significantly alter your card once it has been submitted. (Although minor tweaks, such as to adjust balance or correct spelling errors, are acceptable.) You may not delete your submission post. Manipulating votes in any way is strictly forbidden. Any violators will receive a warning and a possible ban / disqualification from future contests. Any discussion of entries, ideas, and so on should take place in this week's designated Discussion Topic. This is the Submission Topic, and it is for submission posts and up-voting only.
Although this is not a rule exactly, we highly encourage you to create your card using Hearthcards.net to give your idea a realistic look. That said, you should consider hosting your image elsewhere, as the site only keeps your card for a limited time and has gone down on us before. If we cannot retrieve your image by the time we get to the Final Phase of the competition, you will not be able to advance, no matter your entry's final score.
Competition Process
Entry Phase and Early Voting (Starts 20:00 UTC 25/June/2015, Ends 18:00 UTC 30/June/2015) It is during this Phase that you may submit entries to the Submission Topic. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like!
Voting Phase (Starts 18:00 UTC 30/June/2015, Ends 18:00 UTC 1/July/2015) During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites!
Final Phase (Starts 19:00 UTC 1/July/2015, Ends 19:00 UTC 2/July/2015) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and a 24-hour poll to decide the winner of the competition!
How do we determine the qualifying finalists? Using the formula detailed here...
(abc) / (de) = x
Where, a = The total number of up-votes in the entire topic. b = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission. c = The total number of up-votes that the submission received. d = The total number of pages that the entire topic spanned. e = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission. x = The submission's final score.
It might seem a bit complex and convoluted, but the bottom line is that, although entries on the earlier pages of the Submission Topic are much more visible and thus receive many more up-votes than entries on later pages, you don't actually have to rush to get your entry in as soon as possible because the up-votes end up being weighted by what page your entry ends up on in order to determine its final score. It will be the ~15-25 entries that receive the highest final scores (depending on the popularity of this week's competition) that move on to the Final Phase. The spreadsheet showing the final scores of every submission will be released after each competition.
But wait, there's more! During each Weekly Card Design Competition, each Fan Creation Forum moderators will be given a Wild Card, which they can use to advance any one entry that they feel was initially overlooked or under-appreciated to the Final Phase, regardless of its final score. Wild Cards are our way of spicing things up a bit, but please don't ask to be given one or be upset if you aren't given one. These are just supposed to be fun. (Also, it should go without saying that, while we moderators are allowed to participate in the competitions, we are not allowed to benefit from Wild Cards.)
Rewards
To encourage your competitive spirit, we do of course offer a few rewards to competition winners: Their card forever immortalized in our Winners' Gallery! The power to choose the theme for a future competition! A unique Avatar Border & "Card Design Champion" Title, as depicted below!
From the same dimension that brought you other Warlock 9-costs like Jaraxxus and Mal'ganis, it's Archimonde! Archimonde brings his incredible powers of destruction to rain down chaos and felfire upon your enemies! Enemy minions strong in late game? Don't worry - Archimonde can draw you incredible amounts of cards, even completely refilling your hand if there are enough minions on the board!
I just felt like making this guy after seeing he was the final boss of 6.2. Personally, i think he's powerful, but with his cost combined with the fact that he damages your own minions, he's relatively balanced.
Not very inspiring, but hey, here's some tool for warlock for more precise damaging options. Can be used in emergencies as well as a single use removal.
"She keeps trying to let it go, because she can't hold back any more." I based this off Frost Elemental, and Big Game Hunter. It has the same stats as BGH,with a situational solid removal, however for 1 more mana it also provides a freeze. However, unlike BGH, it can take out any potential target, but at the cost of spending mana to freeze it. It would be great to be see freeze effects such as Ice Lance to be more viable one day. Edit: Altered card text to make more sense.
Oh, nice, I have a card ready for this competition! I present to you, the Forbidden Knowledge of the art of Demonology!
The cards will be presented to you like they are with Tracking, but you have the possibility to scroll with your wheel or with two on-screen arrows! To choose two cards, they will be highlighted in a way working similar to mulligan. I think that this is probably my most 'confusing' submission xD
So, I really wanted to make a priest card for the competition, but before I finished this I made three other shadow priest cards that didn't QUITE fit competition requirements Eventually I made this. It's balanced, because giving 2 adjacent minions +1 health conditionally is not that big of a deal.
Flavor Text:This is one reason why you do NOT want everyone to get in here.
This card can shut down Patron Warriors once they play their combo, though Handlock already has Hellfire and Shadowflame, the first of which is more efficient for 1 Mana less. However, Hellfire also hurts your own Hero. This card will easily shut down aggro decks like Tempo Mage and Zoolock with a full board clear, though against Face Hunter, you might not live very long even after playing it. Of course, in exchange for wiping out the entire board of an aggro deck, it is all but useless in control matchups. I think an overall great use for this card is just pure value in Arena, hence the reason why I made it a Rare even though I prefer my cards to be Epics or Legendaries. Also, I know how much everyone likes some more RNG. ;)
This is the Submission Topic. The Discussion Topic is here.
