We have whittled down ~260 entries to just 22 of the community's favorites. Check out all the finalists below and vote in our poll (vote for as many or as few as you like) to help decide the winner and be sure to check back after the poll finishes for the announcement of the winner and the start of a new theme!
(Be sure to consider design, art and balance of the card when voting!)
As you may have noticed we are doing stuff a little different this week! We are going to open up a separate finalist topic from now on where you can discuss the finalists instead of in the Discussion thread. Hope you like the change!
Entry Restrictions / Competition Updates:
Your card must incorporate exactly three (3) of the following seven elements:
A Mana Cost of (7).
An Attack of 7.
A Health of 7.
A Durability of 7.
A card name that is exactly 7 characters long.
Exactly 7 words of card text.
The number "7" somewhere in the card name or text.
Your card cannot produce any additional unique cards or tokens.
Update: The cards Lei Shen and Riptide in the poll were found not to be in compliance with this week's theme requirements, and so they have been removed from the finalist gallery. Unfortunately, I cannot remove them from the poll options without resetting the poll entirely.
Hello everybody! ^_^ Remember that, starting Season 2, the final polls of the weekly card design competitions will have their own topics. Continue your discussions here.
I don't understand why my card didn't make the finals. It has the most votes from page 4 by a decent margin.
You know what. Never mind. I have zero interest in competing in this competition any longer. Good luck Br. Broom, Magical WAr Golem, and Go Boom!. You have destroyed all my interest in this silly "competition".
Why are there so many troll cards? Go Boom! especially. Hate them.
As for the other cards, Life Imp is creative idea but seems to be extremely weak for 7 Mana (unless you Taunt it, then it becomes OP), so I didn't vote for it. I'm actually kind of sad after seeing the finalists because I have a bunch of custom cards in store for future usage in competitions, and one of them was a Paladin Epic - 6 Mana 6/1 - same effect as Durotan but with a Silver Hand Recruit, and another one was exactly the same as the Curator (I was trying to make a full set of cards with Immune). Oh, well. There are only so many possibilities in making cards.
My opinion is the joke entries should not be qualified for the finals and not even counted towards the total amount of votes given. They affect so much to the overall voting score and the page score where the page position already favours some cards way over the others. In addition they cause that the other entries on the pages containing a joke entry will get scaled down way too much. This really discourages to create a proper entry when you have to plan do you want to submit your entry on a specific page with a joke card which is way more likely to get into the final.
Don't blame the entries. Blame those who vote. I'm against disqualifying troll cards. What's the definition of a troll card anyway? To disqualify them, a clear margin should be set, which, if passed, would judge a card as a troll or not. Which exactly that margin should be? To me, Magical War Golem seems perfectly fine. To others, it doesn't.
Still sort of waiting for the review of all these cards.
Anyway, It seems that Durotan will be the most likely winner as it stands now. It's a good concept and can't be pulled f without boards presence (Unless it's turn 9, but even then that would leave a 7/1 and a 0/2 or a 1/1. In that sense, it's balanced.
As for 2nd, it's (at this moment) a tie race between Magical War Golem, Master Mathias Shaw, and Curator.
1)Master mathias - seems to be good and somewhat balanced card to me. So he's my 1st pick. 2)Brontes - Having him 7 hp for 2 mana is a bit too much to be a real card imo (I understand that's the requirements of the contest), pretty good idea nevertheless. 3)Fel bolt - really like the idea, unrealistic stats but I'd like to see something similar to be added in game at some point.
*Durotan - maybe the charge aspect is what bothers me in that card, being immune under totems is pretty cool mechanic , 1 health makes it easy to kill, yet aoe will not kill it even if all totems are destroyed in process, it seems that this card would be used for it's charge rather than it's effect.
Well, I found out why my entry didn't make the finals. I had written "in play" instead of "on the battlefield".
I just want to say there was no intentional subversion of the rules there. Just me using my usual verbage. Kinda sucks that nobody pointed it out to me before the last moment, I'm sure I could have found a fix.
Why are there no names in the poll itself? I liked that about the old poll system. Also means cards with similar / identical names are easier to distinguish.
Also I only found the thread by chance. It has to be more visible somehow.
edit: As for the finalists themselves: Incredible weak community choices. Some effects are fine, but have formatting or spelling errors, making me not wanting to vote for them, since that is just as much part of a card design.
Two joke entries in the finals also makes me sad. "The card made me LOL, it's stupid and it won't win but I liked it anyway". Thanks again community, showing me that you have no clue whatsoever. You can design funny cards that without being so obnoxiously uninspiring and make them actually balanced and fitting.
Other entries are ridiculous overpowered like the 0/20. Seriously? When cards like Defender of Argus and Sunfury Protector exists it's a ridiculous dumb concept.
The Jack Pot wild card is also stupid and I don't like the trend that "animating" a card means you have a higher chance to get picked. Personally, I would just forbid gold cards as a whole to even the entry field and not penalizing people without photoshop skills.
I actually struggle to find a card I legitimately like. Fel Bolt is somewhat cool because it reflect its properties in WoW, but it's vastly overcosted and its ignoring effect is incredibly situational. The only other cards I find interesting are Brontes and Tugweed. Tugweed's effect is cool, but 7 mana is arbitrary and over the top. I know it's due to this week's, admittedly poorly thought out, contest theme, but that alone doesn't save it, leaving Brontes as sole choice. Decent card with a cool effect that I can actually see being played.

That's only for this week. Murloc and I had a ton of hands-on stuff to learn from some other moderators this week about setting up the poll topic for the first time. That's why the topic is pretty minimal in terms of words from us specifically about this week, because after double and triple checking entry validates and making sure we had the scoring algorithm all done correctly, we didn't have long left to get the Poll Topic up on time. I had meant to just edit the authors' names into the poll later, but it turns out that when you edit a topic's entries it resets all of the votes to prevent shenanigans, so I couldn't do that after all. XP
I'm curious as to why Warrior of Fate? It's broken as fuck. It's a Wargolem for 2 mana. Its "limitation" is true for ANY 7 mana card. War Golem costs 7 mana, guess what that entails... it can't be played before turn 7, unless you have Wild Grow / Innervate or Emperor.
If it would have 3 HP or something, MAYBE you could make a case for it, but even then only if it was a legendary, but it's a rare, meaning you can play 2. Two 7/7 on turn 7 with 3 mana to spare? Who would not run the card?
I forgot about Miracle. I like the design of the card. Simple and clean, but 7 cards is really over the top thinking about it, I would be too scared of aggro Priest. :O

There are plenty of good designs there! Happy too see some creativity. Sad that I didn't make it in the end :-( I'm going to vote for the following:
My custom classes : /// / My Card Factory!
... how the fuck did my Go Boom! even make it to the finalists? What is wrong with you people? XD
On a side note I really like the Life Imp, Durotan, and Eranikus.

I'm done.

Sorry, I shouldn't have blamed the entries. My bad. I take what I said back there. It's the voters that are to blame.
(Magical War Golem is massively OP and only got votes for the humor aspect, so I don't know how it seems perfectly fine to anyone)

Give a man a Murloc, and he'll eat for a day.
Give him a Murloc Knight, and people will hate him.
Looks like my card isn't doing too well right now. Good luck to all the other entries!:)

@plsDontShoot I'm sorry. I honestly didn't expect for what happened to happen.
There should be a rule where entries that are clearly not within the spirit of the competition are disqualified.

Voted for Relearn, Miracle and Warrior of Fate.
(I find that my flavor differs much from the community)
THERE IS NO GAME.
