Hello everyone. Earlier today, I got the sudden urge to make some cards. For a while now, I had been wondering what a joke set of Hearthstone cards could look like if you just went crazy with the idea. For a long time, I've admired Wizards of the Coast for giving us the Unstapled and Unglued sets for Magic the Gathering. I thought it was really nice that a games company made these sets that weren't competitive by any measure, making them all unique pieces for collectors and fans alike. I had made a few cards in the past that were just funny to think about, and wanted to include them here as well. This is a 40 card set of joke cards, full of all sorts of hilarity and meme goodness.
In total, there are four cards per class and four neutral cards. 10 cards per rarity, totaling 40 cards.
I went all out with this set, and I hope you enjoy.
A friend asked me about the set. He doesn't play much Hearthstone. So I took the time to explain each card, for the most part. The jokes found in the set can be found in the spoiler below, in case you're curious.
Angry Onion Fever is a very clear reference to Shrek.
Jadely Reminder of Jade, "Jadely" is supposed to be a play on the word "Daily", and people really hate Jade Idol, so I thought I'd write them all a daily reminder.
YELLING VOLCANOSAUR is a direct reference to Volcanosaur's flavor text. "Always fun to say out loud "VOL-CA-NO-SAUUUR!"
The Door is a very clear reference to the phrase "Don't let the door hit you on the way out."
Pooping Puppy has really bad worms and is trying to shit in peace.
Power Play doesn't really need an explanation.
Grin and Bear It is for people that complain all the time that emoting opponents is abuse, and that we should have an auto-squelch feature. Fun fact: If you cry about opponents emoting you when you can silence them, you're probably the worst Hearthstone player in your country.
Overused Animal Art is a direct reference to the scarcity of art that people use for custom cards. I've seen this art used a good bit, so I wanted to reference that.
Generic Mage Girl pokes fun at games that feature systems concerning character strength through stats and items.
Can Horses Walk On Water is a good question, but don't ask me for the answer.
Confusing "Magic" is poking fun at the art displaying an animal that hasn't been completely created. He's still part magic, so who knows what will happen when the spell is finished.
Antonidas' Workshop references Archmage Antonidas. Go look up Archmage Antonidas sometime and you'll understand.
Sizable Force is pretty obvious. It's a large army with no end in sight.
Saronite "Hero", there's a meme going around concerning Saronite Chain Gang. SCG is a 2 attack minion that says "How long can this go on?" He always summons a copy of himself, so both copies say "How long can this go on?" It's a fairly popular meme, at least with Reddit. Saronite "Hero" is the main character of the set. He's supposed to free the Chain Gang prisoners from their shackles with his pickaxe, but only makes things works by creating more prisoners, so if you kill 2 Saronite Chain Gang minions with this, you create four 1/1 copies of Saronite Chain Gang, which results in hearing "How long can this go on" four times in a row, only making things worse. He's a "Hero" and not a Hero because he's actually a meddling asshole that only makes things worse for everyone.
Wealthy Investor... pretty obvious reference.
Mutation Device of Horror is an old card I made. Resurrect summons a random friendly minion that died, Feign Death triggers friendly Deathrattle effects, and Evolve swaps out your friendly minions with random minions that cost 1 more mana. This card activates for both players. It's basically like if God was always on cocaine and had brain damage.
Peacekeeping Intensifies is a reference to Aldor Peacekeeper, a minion that sets the attack of an enemy minion to 1.
Damsel-in-Distress Trope is a direct jab at Feminism. Feminists like to say that men have this thing called "Toxic Masculinity". Poison is toxic to the body, and the +10/+10 stat buff concerns the masculinity bit, not to mention there's a damsel in distress. All the guys feel like slaying dragons suddenly when there's a damsel involved.
Swift Decree is another older card I made.
THE BIG HAND is pretty obvious.
Ultimate Clown Fiesta is a nod to two different memes, one being Clown Fiesta, which is basically a way of saying "This is a joke in party form." The other meme concerns Ultimate Infestation. I'll let you search that one up on your own. It's a pretty fucking ridiculous card.
Generic Fantasy Character doesn't really need an explanation, except that it's important to note that minions with 1 health are generally pretty bad.
Alzheimer's with Legs... another pretty obvious creation.
Unfinished Card is literally unfinished. You can't even play it because it has no mana cost.
Really Fast Danger Dude, if you aren't sure what speed lines are, they're basically lines drawn by artists to imply something is moving quickly.
Intimidation is pretty obvious too. What makes it especially funny is the amount of time something like this could take up during your opponent's turn. Pair that with Nozdormu and you have yourself a Clown Fiesta.
Gadgetzan Market was a card I recently created. If you want to know what an Uncollectible card is, it's basically a card you can't actually own or put in a deck when creating a deck.
Pathetic Tug-of-War is a pretty obvious one. Basically, once it starts up, you'll never be able to play drawn cards again because they'll be stuck floating back and forth between both players for the rest of the match.
Clumsy Handling is pretty straightforward. Your hands suck, so put the knife down.
The Magic Man is The Magic Man.
Perplexing Delirium is an older card. A confusing one. A perplexing one.
Mister Misplacement just wants you to quit drinking, that's all he cares about.
Generic Angry Guy is angry because he's generic.
David and Goliath basically signals the end of the game, because Cursed Blade doubles all damage your hero takes while CB is equipped.
Terrifying Diarrhea is my hilarious answer to people asking about cards that destroy armor.
Dr. Boom's Champion kills itself with its own effect, but also really fucks up every other class when you play it. Also, 4 mana 7/7 is one of the oldest Hearthstone memes around, so there's that.
The Power of Plaid is a humorous jab at Blizzard's way of changing cards. Plaid is a clothing design that Ben Brode, (lead Hearthstone designer) likes a lot. I made it a Warlock card because Brode's favorite card is a Warlock Legendary. I think he's said before that Warlock is his favorite class, but I can't be certain.
Vampire Stunt Double is pretty obvious. Basically, discarding cards is part of Warlock's theme. Because of this, if VSD isn't discarded while playing with discard effects, he's fired.
Product Placement... pretty obvious stuff. The Kabal create potions. They need to sell the potions.
Spawn of Sargeras, the entire card is on fire, and catches the rest of the cards in your hand on fire.
Consider Generic Fantasy Character strictly as power creep.
Consider every card ever strictly as power creep
I mean, most of the time, we're moving forward with the perceived strength of a card. Power creep is definitely alive and well in Hearthstone's developmental progression as a game.
Did you ever look at the flavor text for Volcanosaur? I tried my best to reference the flavor text as best I could. Also, because I haven't mentioned it yet, The Power of Plaid is a joke aimed vaguely at Blizzard's weird way of changing cards. Of course, Ben Brode wears the lumberjack/plaid shirts quite often.
The Door really cracked me up (for those that don't get it, its a reference to the phrase "don't let the door hit you on the way out"). Flavor aside, it would actually be a really interesting anti-aggro tool if it had Taunt.

I thought about giving it Taunt, but it's not my job to show you the door. When it's time to leave, you show yourself to the door. Really though, I couldn't give it Taunt because it's a doorway, not a wall. People usually travel through doorways. Walls, not so much.
Thanks for stopping in. I think The Door might be the card I laughed about the most when I was creating it.
I'll just make light mention here that there are people planning on releasing a set similar in nature to this one on April Fools Day. I might end up making a second edition for that day. I'll post a link here to the second edition when I make it, along with leaving a link to the April Fools Day set(s) that they're planning on producing.
I've updated the set with an explanation of the jokes written for the set. Feel free to take a look. Fun fact: Dr. Boom's Champion has over 200 points/upvotes on Reddit.

I lol'd. A worthy fan-made successor to the Un-sets.
Mister Misplacement should be changed to Walker of Shame.
Biggest LOLs since The Holy Grail.
