Happy Season 5 Finale!
Man, time flies when you're helping to run a competition to avoid thinking about your exams. I can't believe we've already made it through another Season, so much happened. We saw the release of Journey to Un'goro which made a prophet of one of our members, said a fond farewell to Asylum after he ran his Gauntlet, and managed to avoid killing each other over WoW pets!
This Finale Poll is set to end in two weeks, on the 7th of June, and until then we have the return of the Mini-Competitions! This time, the themes will be chosen by us mods, and each competition will run for two days total - 24 hours for Submissions, an hour for upvoting and then 23 hours for a final poll. These themes will be a bit outside the ordinary, themes that perhaps wouldn't work as well for full competitions or might just be a bit of fun. You can find a list of the competitions below. Each of the mini-competitions will offer you the opportunity to earn the Avatar border, so make sure to check them out!
Mini-Competition #1 - April's Artists - Submission - Discussion - Final Poll
Mini-Competition #2 - Seasonal Seasoning - Submission - Discussion - Final Poll
Mini Competition #3 - Time For A Change - Submission - Discussion - Final Poll
Mini Competition #4 - I AM A TURTLE - Submission - Discussion - Final Poll
Mini Competition #5 - Tiny Terrors - Submission - Discussion - Final Poll
Mini Competition #6 - Cavalry's Here - Submission - Discussion - Final Poll
Now, what about Season 6? We currently plan to have around a week or two break after the end of the Finale Poll, after which Season 6 will begin, seeing 20 more competitions and another larger competition to kick it off. We'll most likely put up a discussion topic for the larger competition a week before the start of the Season, to give people time to prepare.
Click on each Winner to see the Final Poll for the competition it won.
Take note that some of the finalists will have extra cards as part of their submission, whether because the competition required more than one card to enter, or because they had tokens as part of their card. All extra cards can be viewed in a spoiler below.

You can find me here! Good luck everyone!
Well, that escalated quickly.
4 multiple winners in one single season is a record.
Custom cards :
CLASSES : Alchemist (CCC#5 | Phase V) | Chef (CCC#4)
EXPANSIONS : Year of the Scorpion (Year Comp)
Reload and From the Void are the only ones getting votes from me lol
The cards I will be voting for will be Reload, Manasaurus, and Prof. Charles Darwinsaur.
Also some feedback on a card that I lost against by a few votes, Eonar. Honestly I think that card could have used a little more time to think about when creating it, Crucinel didn't put much thought into the card, the 40 health mechanic has been used numerous times in fan creations. I think the card that should have won CDC 5.06 is the Kael'dorei Steed since the effect is original. Your target being frozen when you use your hero power is something no one has seen before. That's what people look for in these winners, original ideas, not some effect that you've seen before and tweaked it around a bit.

Well, I've taken a good look at the winners and have figured out my votes. I took the following into account: Flavor, Balance, Creativity, Utility (i.e. how useful they are for their class), Formatting, and Connection to the Theme/Prompt.
Who I'm Voting For
Honorable Mentions
"The Slayer" custom class
"The Great Thaw" expansion competition finalist
Is this gonna get on the front page at some point? I feel like it's weird that the finale isn't there while the competitions are (unless it actually is there and I'm just an idiot).
That aside, I'm voting for From the Void, Reload (
best card there, obviously, totally), and Blind Oracle. Why Rogue is my favourite class:
My submission for this week's card design competition.
Detailed notation of each card
Cards are rated from 0 to 5 (so 6 possible grades). Each card has 4 subgrade that goes from 0 to 3. It is easier this way than from 0 to 5. Of course I will multiply the resulting sum by 5/12 to bring things up to scale.
In addition, I may give a penalty of -0.5 (applied to the global rating and AFTER the 5/12 weighing) in the following cases:
Negative reviews are not to be taken personally! There is also a couple of cards I gave a positive review of during its final phase but bad one here. That is because concurrence is harsher and because season finales are theme-less, which does not allow me to compare each card on how they fit the theme.
5.01 : An Interview with Nat
No penalties.
Global rating : 2.08/5 | Meh.
To be honest, I was very disappointed to see this card win especially coming from the best fan card maker of this forum. Yes, the flavor is awesome but that's it. Cards shouldn't win on flavor alone IMO.
5.02 : The Monk faction
Token(s):
No penalties.
Global rating : 3.33/5 | Good!
This week's theme was hard since it requires to invent not one card, but 3, and to maintain cohesion between them. Overall this submission was successful at doing just that.
5.03 : Timmy the Impatient
-0.5 for inconsistency with WoW lore. The art is Anduin as a child!
Global rating : 2.42/5 | Meh.
This card has very lopsided subscores. I actually quite like the card but I want to keep things as objective as possible. Again, flavor is not enough.
5.04 : Murlidan Tiderage
No penalties.
Global rating : 1.25/5 | Bad...
Well this card can be proud of almost joining Pepe in the Hall of Shame of fan cards! ...Oh wait both were made by the same guy.
Sarcasm aside. Timmult, I don't know if you will be reading this but I supposed you're aware of how badly your cards were received by veteran card designers even though it won. This is because they were entirely focused on the "cuteness" of the art and the fact they are WoW pets at the expense of the quality of the cards themselves. Making cards based on WoW pets is fine but it shouldn't be the ONLY thing that matters. Your cards won thanks to the large amount of voters who come here from the front page and don't always take time to fully analyze all the cards. They see a cute WoW pet, they upvote.
If you want to improve your cards, ask yourself how it fares at least in the 4 dimensions (balance, flavor, originality, gameplay value). These dimensions are slightly subjective but they give you an idea. I wish you good luck for the future!
5.05 : Blind Oracle
Mind Vision
No penalties.
Global rating : 2.92/5 | Meh.
Obviously this is a fun card but I wonder whether it might turn out to be the new Yogg-Saron, Hope's End since it allows you to compensate for the weak link in most priest deck, tempo, by getting cards from you opponent who contrary to you probably mulliganed for tempo unless priest himself. It would also be frustrating for your opponent whenever you get a Brawl or a direct damage card for lethal.
5.06 : Eonar
-0.5 for inconsistency with WoW lore : Eonar is a titan. There's no way she can fit into the battlefield! (Old Gods really are the upper limit of what Blizzard can do in terms of size).
Global rating : 2.00/5 | Meh. (borderline Bad...)
This card made me re-evaluate how I rate cards on the "utility" subscale. I realized that just evaluating whether the card would see play (and Eonar obviously would) is not pertinent since any OP card would be a 3/3 on this scale. This is why 'Utility' was renamed into Gampeplay which takes into account not only whether it could see play, but whether it adds depth to the game (in terms of deck-building or decision-making).
Eonar is obviously a big fat control card (and by 'fat' I mean the size of a planet, because that's what titans are) and, contrary to most other big fat control cards, this one will probably work. I like big fat control cards but this one is too bland and not flavorful enough for me. Just in case, don't take negative reviews personnaly.
5.07 : Il'gynoth
Token(s):
Well, this one is mine so there's no need for a detailed review to know that it's obviously 5/5!
5.08 : Reload
-0.5 for the art which probably isn't an elf (which was that week's prompt) on top of not being very Warcraft-y. Not to mention she's not acutally reloading...
Global rating : 2.28/5 | Meh.
As said earlier, I recently remembered that I made a nearly identical card for my Troll expansion (mine costs (2), which I think is better since it can't be played without a weapon) but forgot I made it during 5.08. This is why I didn't rate this card on the "effort" scale and instead adopted the "great minds think alike" mentality. Still, I intended Reload to be a filler since it is exceptionally bland for a WCDC winner, despite good flavor, and while it was the best card for this particular week it looks pale in comparison to other winners.
5.09 (1) : Helpful Whelp
No penalties.
Global rating : 3.33/5 | Good
A co-winner of mine! With the effect of Dragon Consort, the Mana Cost of Twilight Whelp and the OPness of Drakonid Operative, Helpful Whelp would definitely push curve Dragon Priest or Menagerie Priest which is what I had in mind when I made the theme.
5.09 (2) : Borrowed Time
Well, this one is mine so there's no need for a detailed review to know that it's obviously 5/5! I'm proud to be the first person here to win his own contest :D
5.10 : Big Little Tough Guy
No penalties.
Global rating : 4.16/5 | Awesome!
It's strange that this card needed a Wild card to access the finals because it fitted 5.10's theme (interact with adjacent minions) perfectly on top of being mechanically interesting! Its only weakness is the art which comes from a cinematic and isn't great even though it fits the character.
5.11 (1) : Manasaurus
No penalties.
Global rating : 4.58/5 | Awesome!
Come on Blizzard, why didn't you put this into the Un'Goro expansion ? It would fave fit perfectly! I can already see the Trolden video where a guy wins because he Moonfired his own Manasaur to play a Feral Rage for lethal! My third favorite from the bunch (the first two being my own cards of course).
5.11 (2) : Terrorsaur
No penalties.
Global rating : 2.92/5 | Meh.
Lack of balance really screwed this otherwise good card. It has good flavor and I feel like decks could be built around this, but as it is it would screw everything that isn't aggro.
5.11 (3) : Prof. Charles Darwinsaur
No penalties.
Global rating : 1.67/5 | Bad...
IIRC I voted for this card because I really liked the base concept of summoning adapted Silver Hand Recruits but the concept was badly used. There's no flavor besides the vague connection between Darwin and Adapt and the card is unplayable in most metas.
5.12 : Cruel Pyromancer
Token(s): Flame Elemental / Fireball
-1 for pushing "fun and interactive" mage. Yes, current cancerous mage archetypes are not based on Elementals, but this card might allow them to just do that. Freeze and Exodia are already too much.
Global rating : 3.16/5 | Good
The fact that this card still has a reasonable note despite the -1 penalty actually shows that the concept is very good. Sadly, Alexstrasza and freeze effects exists and I would hate to see this in game. As said at the beginning, I'm far from the only one to hate "fun and interactive" mage. Asylum, it's not your fault if F&I mage exists but you should have known better.
5.13 : Aimed Shot
No penalties.
Global rating : 2.5/5 | Meh.
On the one hand, I said it doesn't fit Hunter playstyle. On the other, Hunter playstyle itself is an issue. The Hunter class has always been restricted to somewhere between face and midrange while all other classes have had very diverse archetypes to choose from. That said, restricted or not, I do not feel like Hunter can use this card optimally. The flavor is nice though, although as I said a sniper rifle would have made more sense.
5.14 : Rafaam
No penalties.
Global rating : 2.08/5 | Meh.
Like "An interview with Nat", this card is very disappointing. It's a c/p of adventure Rafaam with an effect that pops up regularily on fan card forums. The effect itself isn't "bad" but imo it's not worthy of a WCDC winner.
5.15 : Eavesdropper
No penalties.
Global rating : 2.91/5 | Meh.
I was really impressed by this card during 5.15 but time has passed and while I don't think it's as bad as some says, it's definitely not god tier of fan card creation either since its effect is negligible most of the time.
5.16 : Ner'zhul
Token(s):
No penalties.
Global rating : 2.5/5 | Meh.
This was bound to happen. The same legendary character won twice. In this case, however, flavor justifies it. The famous Shaman-turned-Warlock-turned-Lich-King couldn't have been replaced. That said the effect is ridiculous. Knowing the future outcome of your hero power doesn't matter if you can"t act on it anyway and I doubt that knowing this information would seriously impact your decision making. Which is bad since the minion has vanilla stats.
5.17 : From the Void
No penalties.
Global rating : 2.5/5 | Meh.
From the Void was probably the winner with the largest margin ever. I think people just looked at the effect and it was cool because it reminded them from that time when they got 5 Ice Blocks in one game. While not bad per se, the card is a c/p of Primordial Glyph into the Warlock class and I think it would never have won if PG wasn't a thing.
5.18 : The Great Heist
No penalties.
Global rating : 3.75/5 | Good
A great card with an original effect. Here sir, take this "Good" mention.
5.19 : Standoff
Token(s):
-0.5 for the art that is ugly, not Warcraft-y and badly centered.
Global rating : 1.17/5 | Bad...
I originally gave a positive review of this card, however I neglected the "draw a card" on the base card which gives the Rogue player the initiative, and rogues have Preparation and a shitload of card draw so this card IS NOT A GOOD IDEA! This is basically Yogg 2.0.
5.20 : Plated Knuckles
No penalties.
Global rating : 4.44/5 | Awesome!
I only gave three "Awesome!" ratings, and 2 of them were for Lathy so GG to you dude! Plated Knuckle was one of the few cards that made me go "Wow!" like Anduin when I saw it. However, this may be because I was unable to evaluate this card's balance. Others have been more severe than me on this card and I may re-evaluate this card's balance rating depending on feedback.
I still voted only for my cards though, lol.
Custom cards :
CLASSES : Alchemist (CCC#5 | Phase V) | Chef (CCC#4)
EXPANSIONS : Year of the Scorpion (Year Comp)
To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women.
ETC's review reminds me of this. I did make hero power tokens for Ner'zhul and submit them that week, but for some reason they're not included in the final poll that week. Here they are:
THERE IS NO GAME.
Custom cards :
CLASSES : Alchemist (CCC#5 | Phase V) | Chef (CCC#4)
EXPANSIONS : Year of the Scorpion (Year Comp)
To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women.
I mean... Atleast i got a B for Effort :)
The reason it is that weak is mostly because litterally everyone screamed BROKEN when i showed it in the discussion thread. The original card was a 3/2 for 5 that was Epic. (Which i agree was Broken)
And it started out as a Silver Hand Carrier, which would probaly have made more sense flavorwise, but then it was suggested that i should change it to Charles Darwinsaur, and my inner memer went loose.
I want a new title, but Flux won't let me have one,
Custom cards :
