What? You didn't think we'd forget about an upcoming expansion, did you? For this week, your card art must depict a Dinosaur. "Dinosaur" scientifically refers to a specific classification of prehistoric animals (You can find more info here), but we're willing to broaden the definition to accept other classic prehistoric animals like Pterosaurs, Plesiosaurs, Dimetrodons, and even Trilobites. However, we will not allow more recent animals to qualify, like Mammoths, Sabre-Tooth Cats, or Birds, nor will we allow modern animals that have simply been around since prehistoric times, like Sharks or Dragonflies.
Your card must also be a beast itself, interact with beasts, or produce a beast (token or card). If it produces a card that depicts a dinosaur, in accordance with the first restriction, it needn't necessarily depict one itself.
Preview Phase (Starts Now! Ends 20:00 UTC 16/March/2017) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic is made available, previewing this week's competition theme. Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts 20:00 UTC 16/March/2017, Ends 19:00 UTC 20/March/2017) During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like! Voting Phase (Starts 19:00 UTC 20/March/2017, Ends 19:00 UTC 21/March/2017) During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites! Final Phase (Starts 20:00 UTC 21/March/2017, Ends 20:00 UTC 22/March/2017) During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and poll to decide the winner of the competition!
Discussion Topic Rules
To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. Discussion topics become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entry for feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.
So, without further ado, have fun and get creating!
So i thought i had prepared for this, aparently a bit too many restrictions for any of my creations to enter this one. Posting one of those in hopes I can justify it fitting the rules and two other I came up with :)
Manasaurus: We know druids like their Mana Crystals, and we know Kun the Forgotten King. This could make a lot of the bad buff spells that druids have playable.
Perilous Predator: Simple card with a pretty straightforward mechanic. The idea is obviously that the predator adapts to the enviroment everytime it kills.
Survival of the Fittest: Okay, so this was the card I was talking about. It's not a beast, nor does it have beast synergy, BUUUUUT... I think its safe to say that Adapt will definitely be a beast keyword more than anything else. I know we've seen a beast that adapts your murlocs, but I still think you catch my idea. I very much doubt that this'll float, but I just thought it was so flavorful. I've tried to come up with a way to incorporate the beast, but it'll just seem like such a niche card then.

Manasaurus is awesome. I dig it. Also, I suspect that just having Adapt will be deemed not enough to meet the rules. Just a hunch.

Clarification question: Does the image have to be a living dinosaur or would fossils in a museum be permitted? For example, would Fossilized Devilsaur be a valid entry if it didn't already exist?

Gosh, that's a great question. My judgement call on it is going to be that those fossils are "insufficient" depictions of dinosaurs. If it were enough to qualify as a dinosaur on its own, it and Unearthed Raptor would both have the "Beast" tag, but they don't.
I'm going to be the guy with the evolution degree who asks "can we submit birds?"
WE THOUGHT OF THAT! It's in the restriction, no birds, right after it says no mammoths or saber-tooth cats. You can get away with like an Archeopteryx or something though.

Manasaurus: is awesome, fits right into the beast druid deck with Mark of Yshaarj, and is generally really flavorfull.
Perilous Predator: Since adapt is like the discover mechanich, i don't think it will work properly in the game, unless its a Battlecry, I may be wrong, but currently no choose effects have been applied in HS, that wasen't either a Battlecryor in the Tavern Brawl.
Survival of the Fittest: Dosen't match the restriction rules, considering it dosen't have anything to do with beasts. Furthermore, its hiliarously broken, since its either a two mana cheaper Twisting Neather or a powered up Dragonsfire Potion

I want a new title, but Flux won't let me have one,
Either way, no, that wouldn't be enough to fit the theme, sorry. =(
Wow, I guess It's not a that unique idea then... Created the card march 4th, so can't even say I created it prior to that post, though I haven't seen it. Guess that's just another reason not to go with it! Thanks for clearing that up.
And thanks for the kind words on Manasaurus, that'll probably be the card to go with then ;)
For a one, I just had to get this out of the way, get it out of my system.
Clearly, this is not the name, or art, I would go with for a full submission, but the text is something I was wondering about: Piercing damage. We've got cards like Foe-Reaper 4000 and Magnataur Alpha who have the "also damages minions next to whomever it attacks," like nurgling's Trilobiter. And we recently had Knuckles from the Mean Streets of Gadgetzan that did face damage while also attacking minions. So, after the release of Knuckles, Piercing Damage doesn't seem so unique any more, but I still think it'd be different enough from currently existing mechanics, and be a good fit for the dinosaurs.
Again, this won't actually be the card submitted, I just needed to get the Cavlin and Hobbes joke out of the way, but also see if the card text is worth going forward with and refining.
Two different ideas I've come up with. Anklesaur is a 4-mana 2/4 that continuously regains Divine Shield. Strong synergy with hand buff mechanics from MSoG. Primal Transformation is a 1-mana spell that turns a minion into a Beast and Adapts it.
I feel this challenge will be the most difficult because I balance my cards around already existing cards. Thus a Paladin card with Beast Synergy would be extremely weak unless Un'Goro actually introduces strong Beast cards for Paladin. Maybe I'll come up with better ideas when the card reveals start on the 17th.

Really broad topic like my theme for my tournament, and other existing examples include Verdant Longneck and Gentle Megasaur from the new expansion.
