It's time to bring back Design Duels. For those who have not seen any of the previous threads, these Design Duels are always a 1v1 design competition between two anonymous players. The two competitors don't even know each other. For those who like to compete in one of these, simply send me a PM and I will set you up for a match. Lately I have been trying to do 2 duels at the same time, one New Comer Design Duel (for those who have not done a design duel before) and a Veteran Design Duel. Anyone entering duels for the first time is automatically a New Comer, but once you've completed your first New Comer match you're bumped into veteran status. If you are interested in joining a duel, just send me a PM and I will add you to the queue. Now for New Comer Design Duel #17:
Prompt: Design a card that gives your opponent a mana crystal, or destroys one of your own
Nothing too special, I think Jade Forest will be my vote...I like that it gives you a Taunt Jade Golem, even if it provides your opponent with mana acceleration...a very good late game card (with a good number on the golem), a decent or bad (depending on the state of your own mana acceleration, and/or matchup) early game card. I like the artwork too. One thing tho, "mana crystal" should be capitalized!
Kabal Snapcaster, idk, I'm not even sure is it a Warlock only minion, or Kabal (shouldn't it have the tri-class faction insignia then?)...either way, I'm not sure I'd like to see a 1-mana Siphon Soul, 3-mana Twisting Nether, or even WORSE, 1-mana Entomb, 5-mana Pyroblast etc. Also, I don't like the artwork very much... :/
The prompt here has sooooo much potential and I think they should have had to create one card for each idea. One to give your opponent a crystal one to destroy one of your own. Because it can be hard to judge very different cards against each other.
Entry 1 is clearly going for the fences. This card is extremely powerful, far far more powerful than any other such card thus far. That's not a good thing either. I'm sure some amount of balance for this was based around Preparation, but Preparation has 2 things to help balance it that this card doesn't have. First off, its a spell itself, so you can never double reduce a single spell. Second, the effect must be used the turn you play it. This is also similar to Innervate in that regard. This card however just opens you to do either double reduce a card like DOOM! or Pyroblast, and on top of that can combo with Brann Bronzebeard to allow other crazy shenanigans. Yes, the mana disadvantage can be a problem, but its also a choice and once you hit turn 10 the the effect doesn't even actually harm you.
Entry 2 takes the low road. That isn't to say the card is overly powerful. On the surface, compared to every other Jade card this is actually weak/bad. The other really bad thing about it though it that its in Druid. I know Druid is the "ramp" color, but Druid just doesn't need anymore Jade cards, let alone Jade spells. The other obviously issue with the card is you really don't even want to cast this early. So by the time you're willing to cast it your opponent is probably on 8+ mana already and the drawback does nothing. So yes, the card is weak, or at least the drawback is strong, but again, the drawback becomes meaningless eventually.
I think both designers missed the chance to actually make an engaging card. Just like this weeks Veteran duel I don't think I'm going to vote. I'm really not interested in voting for any Jade Druid related cards, and I'm definitely not voting for a clearly over powered card either. Maybe I'll come back later and change my mind.

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women.

I like the prompt too and may make that a future design duel, but it'll have to wait a bit because I don't like re-using old prompts too quickly.

Its definitely tough, because there aren't really any of these cards that have been successful, besides Darnassus Aspirant. So I definitely get why these guys went they way they did.

I don't like he idea of a turn 6 Pyroblast or such... But at he same time I find he jade card unspiring
Broken vs. boring. I gotta go with boring.

While I don't like either of them, I innately hate Jades, so I guess I'll go #1.
Explosive Shot => Meteor
Power Word: Tentacles => Spikeridged Steed
