I looked at this card originally and I thought, you know, it's a card, and you play this card. The card will be that card that you play so you're playing a card. So, it is one thing to play a card. If you're opponent doesn't really have any cards, the card will screw up the card pretty hard, and that means it's a pretty good card.
Interesting! May bait out a silence which could prove useful. Wish it would have been a pirate though
Bait silence for what? Current archetype which is Oil Rogue dont really even have silence targets, unless if you count shredders which is similar in silence value to this card anyway.
Ehh I don't think Pile of Stats is what Rogue really needed, was 1 mana all that was stopping people from playing Boulderfist Ogre?
Erm... Yes? Ogre is almost playable even for 6 mana. In fact, Toshley sometimes see play in non spell-synergy decks like Ramp Druid, and Toshley isn't strictly better than Ogre. Only the fact that there is a ton of insane 6 mana legendaries kills the Ogre playability.
Let me try and grasp your line of reasoning. You concede that Boulderfist Ogre is not played at all, you say almost, but there's a line, it's either played competitively or it's not Boulder isn't. You then cite similar cards that are never or rarely played competitively, and cite the existence of better cards for the amount of mana that etch out Ogre. And you think this will make it in @ the most competitive slot in the game right now the 5 drop?
50% of the time (when you get the coin), and aren't forced to use it during the early game to keep tempo/control, this card is ok, a 6/7 on 4 is decent, the other 50% of the time it's only a marginally better Boulderfist? I just don't see how this aligns with anything Rogue wants to do, if you want to Ramp out big minions play Druid.
Pretty nice in arena, won't be played in constructed.
Also very boring design. Is this really the best Blizzard could come up with for a combo effect?
Boring? It's a common, it's not meant to be crazy and it is the first card in hearthstone that gets a combo - attack buff (excluding the legendary vancleef)
Also very boring design. Is this really the best Blizzard could come up with for a combo effect?
This is a Common card. Common cards are intentionally supposed to be more plain and boring. This was also true for GvG, and I bet it'll be true for future expansions as well. But boring doesn't have to mean bad. Plenty of stuff is boring and great. Also, this use of Combo, a minion gaining a stat bonus, is something I believe had only been seen in Van Cleef, so putting a toned down version of that on a lower-rarity minion sounds perfectly legit to me. What do you want? For every bew cars that comes out to have drastic, meta-game-altering combo potential? People are way too thoightlessly dismissing of too many of these new cards, particularly the Common ones that appear more "boring".
Once again Blizzard displays they have no idea what makes a card useable. This is only ever good if its played on turn 5 which means you need to burn a prep to get the combo effect or be able to use backstab. On top of situational requirements its still an effectless Boulderfist Ogre which isn't even good in a constructed environment.
In short:
Situationally stupid activation and not even that good in best case scenario.

There's nothing wrong with calling a card out for what it is, you yourself concede that Commons often have basic effects. Just like its delusional to think every card can be meta changing, it's equally delusional to think every card has worth just because it exists.

Why would you use this in Oil?
Some people are interested in climbing ladder i guess. What you run Ysera in your rogue decks?
Ehh I don't think Pile of Stats is what Rogue really needed, was 1 mana all that was stopping people from playing Boulderfist Ogre?
I would say that the short answer is yes. This game is dictated a lot of the time by tempo, and a 6/7 for 5 mana is a whole lot of tempo.
Rogue is already full of tempo, this card is just another Fireguard Destroyer, Constructed cards are just too strong for pile of stats not named Giants.

Of course it has a chance to be played in constructed. It's a 5 mana boulderfist ogre. How dank can you be to completely discount it.

Great arena common for rogue. Definitely not powerful enough for constructed though.
I've wanted to make a standard minion-based midrange Rogue viable forever. THIS is a card that might help make that happen!
Building Quirky Decks Every Week, Loving Life at Rank 15!
Maybe control rogue will be a thing in the future.
This card is going to be good in arena, in contructed probably not, but it would be cool if it did.
