I think people tend to judge the card in the wrong context. Of course right now its not that good, high attack damage minions get killed with bgh and others you can sheep. But imagine that in the new meta with tgt tournament medic is really good, or other high health low attack minions. then this is suddenly good because you cannot bgh those targets and its not worth to sheep them. we will see...
I also think it isnt fair to compare this to assassinate. its very difficult to compare class cards. assissante isnt bad in itself its just that in comparison with other rogue spells its not so efficient... if it was a druid card for instance everyone would run it...
i used medic because its the only card of the set that we have seen with high health, but not a really big threat so you would want to use hard removal on it... im sure there will be similar cards to come
I don't think this is as bad as people are making it out to be. The strength of this card isn't in itself. Its the fact that it can be run WITH polymorph. This card MIXED with the card pool mages already have lends itself to making echo mage even more viable. And in a slower meta that TGT is encouraging, we will see more of the slower 6/8 legendaries like Chromagus, KT, or other big minions that dodge bgh range. Basically, mage can now neuter 4 big threats with only a single card each, unconditionally.
This is not a bad spell, It's just superfluous, It's not bad when picked by Nefarian, Saraad or spellslinger....
Just like Humilty or Hand of protection aren't bad cards, It's just that Paladin has Aldor Peacekeeper and Argent Protector so paladin has no need for them.
Magic Maximizer: Whenever your spells damage minions, they also damage the enemy hero.
Flamestrike would do 4 damage to all enemies, Arcane Missiles could do 3 damage to minions and 3 damage to the enemy hero, or less if the missiles hit the enemy hero.
OMG I can't believe the people saying "worse than assassinate". Do I seriously have to explain these cards are for two entirely different classes? It's not like mage can use assassinate.
Still not a card for my deck. I rather have BGH, Fireball and even polymorph when I have to choose between those cards.
I don't see this card making it into constructed unless we get some strong anti-aggro cards to slow down the meta game. Otherwise, it is just a slow, clunky spell that doesn't fit the fast Mage decks we often see on ladder.
For arena, this is just another strong card in Mage's card pool and it further immortalizes the class as the strongest- 8 damage for 5 mana will always be really great value. However, I'd still choose a Frostbolt over this because it has much more versatility. Only way I'd choose this over Frostbolt is if my mid-late game removal is lacking (i.e. only one polymorph, only one Fireball, etc.)
Sure, when you compare it to say BGH or poly it doesnt look impressive, but if the meta shifts to lategame cards (as in more big drops) this card is pretty good i guess. 2 sheeps, 1 bgh, 2 fireballs and one or two flame lances, that's alot of removal. And i guess at 10 mana, it is better then bgh because it has no restrictions. It kills annoying stuff that dodges BGH, and it can be used i combination with minions/spells to remove 4/12's somewhat effectively, like ysera. So can be ok on top of your standard removals, to ensure you will have enough to pull through.
I would much rather just dupilcate a couple of more 'BGH to be honest, instead of wasting a slot for this card.
duplicate is great, but like bgh it has restrictions. you'd have to make sure he plays into your bgh correctly. on top of that you are still restricted to 7+ attack minions. you can also play around duplicate or even remove/steal it, so your removal becomes very unreliable. there's also alot of threatening 5-6 attack minions and even more of those on their way with the expansion.
it's terrible right now tho.. it really requires a more control based (slower) meta.
I agree with everything you said. I just would have a real issue with spending 5 mana to clear a minion that is 1-6 AP when Mage has so many other removal tools for less mana. In another deck this card would actually be great! but in any Mage deck it just does not justify the high mana cost for wat it does.
I know not all the cards can/will be good, but I have saw more people like this card than dislike it and that is fine, I just feel there are so many better cards for Mage in the five mana slot and to top it off, Mage already has enough removal as is.
since its restricted to minion i dont see why they couldnt have the mana be 4, i just feel like this card has no business being here as it is. Would be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more useful with an explosive arrow like effect or something else, as it is it doesnt matter how much damage it deals if its restricted to one creature AND costs 5 mana, it could be 5 mana to deal 200 damage to a single creature and it would be worthless... unless you target something that redirects to face
honestly if it was 4 mana for 12 damage it would be a very *good* card, i dont see why they need to have it come out so weak it'll see no play right away, right now if it wants to compete with assassinate it just needs to be 4 mana, hell even with just 8 damage it might just cut it since its 2 flame canons... but 5 mana? no
You know, since it shits on the meta. Kappa

5 mana to kill medic? common

Basically a worse Assassinate.

Sick art!
Many ways to make it strong. Imagine a minion:
Magic Maximizer: Whenever your spells damage minions, they also damage the enemy hero.
Flamestrike would do 4 damage to all enemies, Arcane Missiles could do 3 damage to minions and 3 damage to the enemy hero, or less if the missiles hit the enemy hero.
Flamestrake on a full board would deal 28 face-damage.
But aside from that they already released a minion with the mentioned mechanic, though it's a bit different than imagined:

??? I want what you're on.
on topic: bad card, seems like an attempt to dilute mage's common cards and overall arena domination.
He is answering cepheid post, he is not high :P.
malygos can turn a flame lance into ysera killer.... (still pretty bad card....)
