I see a lot of people here complaining about RNG, and other people telling them to suck it up or get out. That response seems a little unhelpful in my view.
Here's the point. Instead of this card, we could have had a card with a definite effect. Perhaps it could have synergised with something, idk. Instead we get a symmetrical coin toss. Sure it's fun, sometimes, and sometimes it recks you, but overall the net benefit of the effect is low. So why would you play this against a 3 drop with the same stats and a better effect, or just a tribe (e.g Spider Tank)? The answer is that after you've built a fun deck with this card, played it a few times and moved on, you won't play it. The effect just isn't that interesting that a fun deck with this in will be especially fun to play.
I guess my point is that I don't mind fun cards which aren't that competitive, but if it's a gimmick card, I'd like a more crazy and interesting effect. This just feels unimaginative.
I like it. It has good stats for a 3 and it gives tempo mage another spell card. This is more interesting to me than some inspire card that takes forever to do something.
Sigh...this is why Mage will never see top tier and it makes me sad because it's my favourite class too. This kind of RNG bullshit makes their decks too inconsistent thus unreliable. Just look at FlameWaker and Unstable Portal.
I dont know whats wrong with the community, This is a GREAT card. If you can get totemic might, so can your opponent, if your opponent can get flamestrike, so can you. Sometimes, sure youll get a bad spell, and sometimes so will he. And plus, whenever you play this card, you will pretty much be ALWAYS at an advantage, since not only will you get a random spell, you will get a 3/4 body on the board to go with it. 80% of the time, you will get a spell which will be useful to you in someway in the game. dont call it garbage. Good card in constructed. it will probably will have its place in tempo, aggro, and value control mage. maybe even in inspiration mages. it is a very very solid 3 drop in arena for sure.
The difference between this card and nexus champion compared to Nefarian, the pool of cards to get are wide and varied, meanwhile with Nefarian you can sort of get a good idea of what to get.
Man, why so many 3 drops? The power creep is real. Nice knowing ya Raging Worgen and Scarlet Crusader, now you're not even viable in arena.
Do you know what powercreep is ?
Yeah, a 3/4 for 3 becoming the new standard in arena is a powercreep. What do I win?
Says who ? I'd pick a Spider tank over this in arena.
You do understand that arena draft is RNG right? So by adding more 3/4 for 3 mana minions to the pool (especially commons like this one) the odds of getting one are increased (just like when they added Mechanical Yeti, the odds of drafting multiple 4/5 for 4 creatures increased, and decreased the need to draft garbage like Orge Magi to fill out your curve). Mage is already the most popular class, and I predict Priest will become a lot more popular as well, which means more Dark Cultists, too. So yeah, like I said, 3/4 for 3 is going to be pretty much standard.

Noooooope.
This is by no means a great card. Will not be played in any Mage decks. Doesn't fit into them, effect is too risky, why take the RNG route when Mages are doing fine and have a good somewhat-reliable 3 drop already? Likewise Arena, I'd take Spider Tank over this.
Why do people keep saying that Mage gets a 3/4 minion on top of both players getting a random spell? It's not an additional effect. You spend your own card and 3 mana to get a 3/4 minion with an additional effect, so you don't automatically gain advantage. The advantage is decided by who gets the better random spell. You can also try to make the deal favor you more by having Mana Wyrms, Flamewakers, Sorcerer's Apprentices, Counterspells, Spellbenders, Archmage Antonidas and some Troggzor the Earthinator-like minions. However that doesn't change the fact that you might have just lost the game by giving your opponent an ideal spell for the situation.
Counterspell and Spellslinger are pretty controversial together. On the one hand you can somewhat protect yourself from the mystery spell, on the other - you might give the opponent a cheap way to nullify Counterspell. That way any tempo you gain with Spellslinger is automatically lost, so you have to assume the opponent gets some garbage spell.
This is essentially Grove Tender with +1 attack. It's decent.
In Constructed it's playable since you can always control the spells played by your opponent using Loatheb or get advantage from the spell you received using Mana Wyrm or Gadgetzan Auctioneer.
But in Arena I think it doesn't pass the risk/reward test that easily.
ps.: you can see that most of the players decide already to hate the expansion when a perfectly ok card is trashed because you assume that the randomness will always disfavour you. Calm down guys

The thing is, there are plenty of instances where u want an ogre magi instead of a chillwind or mech yeti.
Looks fun. Not exactly as OP as everybody seems to think that every card must be, but interesting. Might have some synergy with spellfocused decks, but not that much. At least the body is good. It will see a lot of play in arena at the very least since because of the body.

second line, you lost me. How is it not an automatic advantage? Think about it: You play the minion: YOU: Get a 3/4 + random spell OPPONENT: random spell Pretty logical. Even if the opponent uses the spell he gets to remove the 3/4 body, you still have a spell, Still an advantage. Like i said, sometimes, this card will win you the game HANDS DOWN. sometimes you might lose horrendously, but the chances of getting a bad spell, are extremely small. Even if the opponent does get a good spell, you have one too, AND a body 3 MANA FOR 3/4 body. the effect is free. and you can do it on your demand. "The advantage is decided by who gets the better random spell." This is completely wrong. You have more than just a spell, you have A BODY. DONT IGNORE THE BODY. All people think, is " oh oh, you get shit, he gets pyroblast flamestrike gg gg gg!?!?" You have to think of all the outcomes possible, Trump, says imagine the card, in its best situation and worst situation, and if you do, you find that most of the times, it is a better spider tank, a body and spell, and very very rarely, it is a little worse spider tank. if the card success rate is ~~80% (80% of the spells will be useful) which i think is very close, you will have a favourable out come 8 games out of 10, Which is huge. Your not understanding that is is YOUR card. You can play it on demand, whenever you want. You can play it so that it favours you more than it favours him (depends on board position etc) You can play this so it combos with something else, you might have in your hand or even on the board. Flamewaker decks, will like this. Combo with Loatheb, manawyrms, or anything of the sort.
P.S: dont get mad, remember, this is just a friendly argument, i have nothing against you, and i hope neither do you :DD
I can not find one reason to play this card over Spider Tank. The possibility those random spells are giving to the opponent to win the game limits its constructed chances!

Or maybe what you consider top tier is just not inconsistent enough right now?

So I'm clear - the consensus is that because a 3 drop doesn't automatically win you the game it's bad?
Spider Tank > This. Giving cards to opponent always sucks if you are not Mill deck
