Ugh, did mage need another card like this? Blastmage was already annoying enough.
Totally different cards and decks. One is synergy with mech deck. Flamewalker is synergy with spell deck, arcane missiles, etc.
I hate mech mage, but I love goblin blast mage. This applies goblin blast mage to even typical mage decks.
Yeah exactly. now we have to deal with this type of card in EVERY mage deck.
Yo, as a control mage player, this just gives me a viable deck on ladder now. Don't hate on the control mage archetype. Till now, we have been having a terrible time. This is a much needed buff to the mage class to bring it to competitive levels!
Druid have OTK, paladins have quartermaster combo, rogues have oil, hunters/warlock have hero power. Now, with this card, mages have triple pings. Which is right in line with their hero power of a ping, and makes a TON of sense to the class as a whole.
Because Mage didnt have freeze as a viable control deck, right? To me, it seems mage is best since like ever, has two competitive decks and couple more being refined, is still the king of arena... I like the card aswell, but I wouldnt go as far saying its "much needed buff", considering plenty of classes have alot more pressing issue that mage having viable more than one control deck :p
I HATE HATE HATE the freeze archetype with a PASSION! There is NO gameplay with freeze. It's just freeze/freeze/freeze/ nuke nuke nuke/over. Freeze is NOT true control. Freeze is gimmick control. Period.
And mech mage is equally as braindead, but for other reasons.
I enjoy tempo/control playstyle, and I ADORE the mage hero power and spells/minions, and therefore have been lusting after a true "warrior control" meta for mages! Duplicate and Echo of Medivh went far in delivering that, but we need to use our removal spells (fireball/polymorph), and I always felt I ran out of steam when using those spells. Now, this card can improve the synergy across the board for us!
At tempo/storm tier list, Control Mage is tier 5, absolutely terrible. This card goes VERY VERY far in addressing that. In fact, I personally could never have imagined up this card myself, for all the time I've been brainstorming different card ideas that could save the control mage. But now, seeing it, I feel I've witnessed sheer genius. Bravo Blizzard!!

I mean, it's easy to say, other classes have more pressing issues. Especially when you only play the other classes.
But, as someone who mains mage, and is always trying to refine and re-develop ideas for the mage class. THIS card is filling the MOST pressing issue I can think of.
People's evaluations are funny ... as always: op in mech mage, do you even play this game? This card is a 3 mana 2/4 non mech that has no synergy besides the few spareparts in the deck, which makes him a late game minion of which you definitely don't want to add any more.
If this sees play it will be in a spell heavy midrange mage...
Really, very interesting to point out as a cautionary tale!
MANY new revealed BRM cards are DIRECT, DIRECT counters to this card. The warrior ax-juggler, warlock imp card, even the neutral 1 mana dragon egg, AND, drunken brawlers ALL benefit from the pings sent out by this card.
When (not if) this card becomes standard fare in all non-mech mage decks, there are built in tech cards and anti-flamewalker cards in the meta, to keep this bad boy in check.
This.
Flamewalker may still end up being a gimmie (most of the counter cards are slower and more expensive), but the counter cards do exist, and there are a lot of them.
I don't get it. All over the forums people complain about Goblin Blastmage and the devs give Mages a mini version of this dude that now triggers with spells - and if Mages have something in masses, then it is spells. Why don't they at least try to add different ways for each classes to build decks.
Hey, Blizz is working on "Un/Overload shaman", "Demon Lock", "control hunter - steamwheedle sniper at least", "Enrage Warrior".
There are a TON of wheels spinning here. And I greatly appreciate Spell/Tempo/Midrange/Control Mage getting in on the action as well. Freeze Mage is in a good place. Mech Mage is as good as it's gonna be. But the mass bunching of other borderline playable mage decks got some much needed TLC today.
Already in this expac we are seeing inventive options for new meta, as Brode himself stated, the reason for 2 class cards each instead of neutrals is because they want to greatly expand/alter the meta.
Extremely good in tempo decks and in aggro decks based on early board control + spells.
The combination 'MWyrm+Sorcerer+spells+KTM+secrets+this' assures mage one of the best openings of the game. Even Soot Spewer could see some play.
Not so good in mech decks, in this archetype I'd prefer Goblin.
I'd go 1 - mana wyrm, 2 - mad scientist (hopefully pull a counterspell), 3 - Flamewalker, 4 - Duplicate (secrets create TEMPO! GASP!), or Frostbolt + Unstable Portal, 5 - Dance a very happy dance, laugh a very Brode laugh, and give Blizzard a great big ol' hug.
This guy is a complete all star. I wouldn't be surprised if his presence alone is enough to bring back Mirror Image or at least make Flame Cannon more prevalent in aggressive mage strategies. a 3 man 2/4 is already decent enough and the potential upside this thing has from spare parts and removal in general makes him incredibly powerful. Kirion Tor Mage letting you play 0 mana secrets is also a good way to milk value out of him even further. 10/10 great job blizzard
He is great but not as great as people seem to think.
Played alone he does nothing and is relatively easy to remove.
He has no spot in Mech Mage decks because the Spare Parts to "fire" are mostly used for Antonidas.
I can see a new arch type arising which includes him good spells and Sorcerer´s Apprentice. comparing him to Goblin Blastmage somehow does not feel fitting. Both have different activators and a different role on the board. The Blastmage has a very solid threatening body on its own.
Another great card for tempo a mage. So what you do is put this in tempo mage make it stick 1 turn which is not hard at turn 3 then just play a bunch of portals and secrets to get a full board clear vs aggro. You can also just make sorcerers apprentice stick or play it later with spells to get the effect. Aggro decks will be even worse with BRM which is good. This card like the other cards seen so far promotes the player to save cards or to combo cards for tempo/value. This is great design on blizzards part.
So, I just came up with this. No secrets for the time being, but plenty of burn, card draw and spell damage. My theory is that Flamewaker can help us through the early midgame, and allow enough time to burn your opponent to death in the late midgame. Was considering Gadgetzan Auctioneer as well. Needs testing.

supporting Mech Mage ... oh well ...
I don't really think so - thinning out the mech density doesn't work all that well for a mech synergy deck.
However, it will fit rather nicely into my aggro mana wyrm mage that I thought was going to need to be retired.

A great card in vacuum, but when it comes to real game there are such counters as Grim Patron or Dragon Egg, Axe Flinger, Acolyte of Pain, Frothing Berserker, Raging Worgen, etc.

Goblin blast mage needs no nerf. Need to make sure mechs don't survive on enemy's board by turn 4.
This card helps make that possible.

It already is, and it's about to get even stronger.
Play this on 3 but then have no mech on board on turn 4 to activate my blastmage?
Underwhelming - I'd rather have a mech in my mech mage deck.
Not good with spare parts we need to save them for Tony Midas.
He is great but not as great as people seem to think.
