On the one hand this gives aggro rogues a lot of burst, but the deathrattle is kinda weird.
You either want to run the weapon for the Shadowstep effect (which makes it a bit slow) or you want to run the weapon for the damage (the deathrattle puts you behind tempo). If rogue manages to make a deck based on many battlecry/combo minions (lackeys), then this will be extremely good there.
Just combo it with Leeroy Jenkins and you have even more burst thanks to the deathrattle and discount.
This is bad. People compare it to Truesilver and forget that it heals u for for and its not a tempo loss if it gets destroyed. People also forget that paladin has secrets and heals to help him counteract the fact that he is trading. Rogue dies way too early for it to abuse this. May i remind u that we had Shadowblade that is literary do 3 dmg and time out for your turn and it almost never saw play. U will have either turn 5 no board of u will fload the board with batlle cry stuff which in most cases is understated. I strongly dislike this card.
If theres a good defensive option for rogue i would be more ok but most defensive cards are rotating so pfff.

I think you try to compare it too heavily to control tools. But see it as a 1 mana cheaper Arcanite reaper with 1 less damage and an option to trigger battlecrys twice. Aggressive rogues will love this card.
This is really good in Aggro and Combo. People mention Leeroy, which is a strong OTK finisher.
Turn 10 and have weapon equipped from prevoius turn. Leeroy (5). Shadowstep (0). Leeroy (3). trigger deathrattle on weapon, return Leeroy costing 2 less. Play Coin plus Leeroy (3). This is all without Cold Blood and only 1 Shadowstep. And since weapons are searchable now, this is easier to pull off.
Total Damage = 6+6+4+6 = 22 damage. A free Shadow step will enable crazy Miracle style combo decks and interactions.
The ability to do 22 damage without any buffs is impressive. Obviously the original combo could do it better with Cold Blood.
Bad? This card is very good! Pirates may even come back since supports are coming gradually each xpac: good weapon and pirate draws with rush and combos.
Aggressive rogues can run this. Combo with any combo minions, Leeroy, etc. Combo, thief, or any other archetypes can run it too depending on what gimmicks their deck is. Rogues get very good removals and tempo swings from this set, much higher survivability/racing potential.
People tend to forget that rogue can get deathrattle weapon value instantly too!
So, the card is obviously good and even with Weapon hate cards in most people's decks, the deck still does very good. I called it Meta-defining because I saw the 8 damage from the weapon and the bounce effect to be so strong that there is no way this card will not be in every rogue deck. Even without an OTK element.
On top of it, this is searchable which means you will always draw it when needed. For those that called this card bad, you are not in the ballpark. It may not be meta-defining, but forcing players to play weapon destruction cards seems meta-defining to me.
Along with Bomb Warrior, these 2 weapon decks require an answer to the annoying and powerful weapons.

Always expect the unexpectable!

Yep, it's the classic Death's Bite into Grommash Hellscream setup, but it deals more damage in a class that can abuse it better.
Tempo rogue is buffed...
Olokinho meu!!!
Great card that is included in nearly all Tempo Rogue decks. It has great synergy with the Preparation + Raiding Party combo. Waggle Pick + 2 x Dread Corsair is insane value. Being able to return Captain Greenskin, Leeroy Jenkins, Southsea Deckhand, and Heistbaron Togwaggle is awesome. Returning Acidic Swamp Ooze or Harrison Jones isn't bad either in warrior or mirror matchups. Waggle Pick and Vendetta are the two best new rogue cards IMO.
