I am actually sad they nerfed this card, it seemed pretty balanced to me ( + Pyromancer or +Avenging Wrath, ok you clear the board but it was already kinda costly).. I just hope it hits the sustain of those pesky OTK decks.
Baku you’re going to fuck off one day, but it will not be soon enough.
I really hope to see Even Paladin still playable after this nerf goes live.
Really? Pyro + equality is costly? That is a total of 4 mana, which makes it one of it not the cheapest board clear in the entire game. For reference, Cataclysm is four mana but you are required to discard your hand (which may be good but that is besides the point). A four mana board clear should not exist.
It is costly.
Generally you couldn’t run that much draw ( or let’s say good draw) in a Controlish Paladin, otherwise you would run in danger of not having enough endgame.
The mana cost of that combo is cheap, but the requirement of getting the draw / putting bad cycle cards in the deck was huge. With the rise of OTK it’s obviously more of a problem ( like too strong cards in Warlock are a problem , since it’s much more likely they have it when they need it) .
Also Iksars argument that it’s a problem because it would be forever in every Paladin deck is weird. Some cards are just needed to handle situations. Otherwise you kill a archetype. Like Truesilver Champion for example, it’s very good and will probably see play in every viable midrange/Control version. But if they would nerf it they would have to replace it with something that’s almost similar , or even better ( See Ancient of Lore nerf into UI...).
I'm fine with this change (though I don't like it at all and don't think it's necessary), so long as paladin gets more board clears in the near future. Otherwise there's less of a push for paladin to go control and it'll just go further into aggro (specifically odd).
Brutal for even paladin but a good nerf. In it's original form, it basically gave you execute for the entire board, but at the same cost. Now it is in the realm of costing what AOE should cost.
I have to agree with this. Although I didn't think some of these nerfs were necessary like a lot of people have stated. I think the goal of these changes is to encourage players to find new tools to use instead of relying on the same old board clears or buffs since the games inception. I do not think they deliberately tried to target any of the odd/even decklists which is actually what needs the nerfs but these decks will be losing them anyways as a bi-product of being cards that were auto includes in almost every archetype for that class.
This is a perfect example of the usual unethical approach by the devs towards the game my dear Hooghout always talk about. They want to kill control at all cost and make aggro the only viable archetype for those who play the most popular classes: the masses. Sadly, only few people can really see this problem... As Plato once said "Those who are able to see beyond the shadows and lies of their culture will never be understood, let alone believed by the masses". :(
Its a fair nerf brawl is 5 mana and damages your board as well. Making equality 4 mana while paladin relies on dudes and wild pyro to clear baord is fair.
I feel like this nerf is a little much if they made it 3 mana I'd understand but I have to say that 4 mana kind of ruins its core value of giving palidans a powerful early game board clear as well as making it even unplayable at times with combos like consecration or pyromancer a 6 mana and 8 mana board clear isn't as effective as a 4 mana and 6 mana hurting pali in the long run but also with the loss of many control assets with the next rotation it makes control seem almost impossible to hold unless the next expansion brings with it as many powerful control cards like ungoro or knights of the frozen throne, otherwise control maybe the weakest it has been in a very long time.
At 4 mana, the effect is not worth the cost. When they have to "double nerf" a card because it has to get around Baku, they should add to the card to make it worth 4 mana, get creative with the nerf. Make a "4 mana equality", not a 2 mana equality that costs 4... does that make sense?
I don't think the nerf is that bad honestly. Equality at two is kind of insanely strong. I've been mainly playing HW Paladin lately and equality at 2 is pretty disgusting sometimes with how much you can do in one turn. 3 mana would have probably been better nerf though.
Now it's 6 with Pyro and 8 with consecration. So it slows down how fast you can clear and limits how many cards you can play after the clear. This really limits the flexibility of using your AOE liberally and it limits the chance of having a clear on 6.
Part of the strength of pyro equality was that in the late game you could still have six mana to do things. You could still Pyro + equality + hero power + brewmaster, but you can no longer equality + conc and bounce a guy.
Just some random thoughts. Shrink ray is suddenly looking a lot better. It's one more mana but is a lot better to play standalone. I run a shrink ray in HW paladin and I use it on 7 or standalone all the time, even with an equality in hand. I think combo paladin will still be really good, might just have to build a bit differently. Time out's will probably have to be used less greedily.
Even paladin probably still runs it, it doesn't seem that big of a deal there.
Equality has always been undercosted, and I like paladin. It's a crazy powerful effect if you think about it.
Yes it is crazy powerful, but also needed.
Paladin in his basic set has great Control tools, Divine Favour, and a bunch of shitty secrets. There is no powerful tempo card like prep, no earlygame minion like Flameimp, or tons of aoe like in Mage.
Equality was always needed because you always fell back on board ( unless u played some aggro version) . Ofc you can play shrink ray now , but that seems so meh, sometimes a 5 mana Aldor without the body , and sometimes a 5 mana Equality.
Btw Warriors 3 Mana Armor Flurry is also crazy powerful and it’s a good card without another card ( armor maybe).
Shrink ray is now infinitely better. The problem being by turn 5 or 4 with coin you can reduce not just the health but also the attack. Equality at 4 when it not only reduces you own minions hp but crucially leaves the opponents minion with full attack is ludicrously underpowered.

This is the only change I don't like, probably the right cost for the nerf was 3 but they afraid be used in odd paladin.
4 manas is way too expensive for a setup card, alone the card do nothing.
equality Is hunters mark on steroids. This nerf is well deserved.
I have been waiting forever for this nerf
4 mana is too much.... 3 mana would have been 'ok' but 4 mana? its basically a dead card now, making the basic set even worse for newer players.
Stolen Steel
I guess Even Paladin can go more aggressive with a "dude-package" and Knife Jugglers. I'm thinking Drygulch Jailor, Level Up!, Crystal Lion, Lightfused Stegodon added with Cult Masters or something. Still running 1 Equality seems fine with an earlier curve.

WTF??? Ridiculous nerf... >:-(

shouldve let the card alone imo
Damn paladin got destroyed.. feelsbadman
