We ought to stop comparing Hero cards to frozen throne DKS, it's clear blizzard thinks that frozen throne DKs were a mistakenly gauged power level and wants to reduce hero card's strength while still letting them be viable like boom and hagatha,
Peeps complaining about the hero power. It's 2 damage to anything. That's not bad! Spell Hunter will be a fun deck to play with this card. I can see running a deck with this and Rexxar.
Could be strong with the right build-around. Imagine a beast/secret hunter dropping this on 10, playing 4-5 secrets, a Spellstone, 2 Animal Companions, and maybe a Deadly Shot or two...
I challenge you
Go build the deck and shoot a video of you doing that.
Turn 10 you must play your hero. Before that you need to cast the spells you said you wanted:
Honestly this is great in secret Hunter which got a huge boost with bring able to discover draw the secret drawer since it is a beast and you draw even more beasts with this. Could potentially clear the board create a board protect you with secrets draw a couple cards . Secret Hunter tier 1 this meta
bloodreaver guldan’s battlecry can fill your board with voidlords and then has a 3 damage hero power with lifesteal. this can fill your board with 3/3 beasts, or beasts from your deck but only if you still have good ones in your deck and then you only get a 2 damage hero power. How is that fair?
It is fair because:
1. Not all cards need to be equally good. This is an important lesson to learn.
2. This hero can kill your opponent’s minions with spells.
3. This doesn’t require you to put a lot of Demons into your deck and other deck requirements. Hence this can be used in decks that doesn’t have to have Demons or other deck-limitating cards.
BUT IT'S ZUL'JIN! Come on. He's not a spell power guy. He's an axe-wielding berserker. If health is below 15, buff some stats and let him equip an axe with overkill. Overkill was made for someone like Zul'Jin, and they completely whiffed on it. Nothing about berserker rage, nothing about axes. Kind of a bummer.
I'm huge into Hunter. It was my first class I played heavily back when I started and didn't really understand the game that well. I got Golden Hunter as my first Gold Portrait back in KaC with Cube Hunter. Control Hunter is a thing now. It's been a thing for like two expansions.
Yeah Zul'Jin's Hero Power isn't a total thrill ride, but it's hard to top Rexxar's sheer power and creativity. His Battlecry is insanely powerful, because there's no stopping it. It can't interrupt itself like Yogg or Tess. Yeah he's 10 mana, that's fine now. Y'all are saying "You should win by turn 8 with Hunter". Deathstalker Rexxar takes games all the way to fatigue, so I don't see why a powerful effect like this is really a trouble at 10 mana.
I can see why the majority is dissapointed. I was also hoping for something a little more flashy with the Hero Power I guess. I was thinking maybe a cheaper Hero, an Assassinate-esque battlecry, and a neato hero power that really showed off "the mystical side of the hunt", whatever that meant. But even though I'm not thrilled, I still think the card has merit.
I'm not sure why people are underestimating this card. How many times have we seen these kind of effects.. Yogg, Shudder, Guldan. all these cards have seen competitive play and I think so will this especially after Rexxar rotates. I honestly didn't want to see more cards like these because of how broken they can end up. As for design I do agree it could've been done better.
Not because its too bad or too good, but because it can allow Hunter to get access to a "Turn 10 i play this to finish you off". Even if that isn't the case now, in the future it may be. Stuff like the Animal Companions (most notable Huffer and Leokk), and even wild cards that directly target face Cobra Shot can be played before hand in any tempo-y way, in ANY hunter deck.
The hero power doesn't matter because the effect essentially reads "I will probably kill you on this turn."
Yea its no Shudderwock in terms of "at a certain point i will just scream at you until you die" because of bouncing battlecry minions, but its still really consistent in terms of what gets played.
Right now i'd place him between Tess (who has a fine design because it isn't consistent) and Shudderwock (who has a bad design because its too consistent)
I guess I need to applaud team 5. This hero power is so boring and unoriginal, I am actually considering running Dinomancy in my deck so I can pretend the original one does not exist. I never thought I would consider Dinomancy in a deck! Seriously though, is there a reason why all hero powers have to cost 2 mana besides Hagatha and Vallera the Hallow? There are 9 other digits you have access to so you can come up with something creative. Plus there are already 5 Hero Powers that deal 2 damage for 2 mana in the game.
I do look forward to running Lock and Load in wild with this hero for the memes!
Fun combo: Zul'Jin into Mass Hysteria and Chief Inspector :) I think Chief will have to be seriously considered with all the nasty Hunter secret synergy (hunter with secrets, spellstones, Zul'Jin, draw 3 beasts and Subject 9 might be a nasty thing).
it can summon 4 huffers and 2 leoks for 24 face dmg, it's not disappointing if you actually "think"
Good luck with that. If you want 6 companions, then you must be playing spell hunter, so you'll also have a bunch of random Kill Commands and Flanking Strikes killing your minions, and Spellstones filling your board with wolves.
Think about it, this is actual garbage. What are the main spells you are going to play in a deck like this? Secrets probably, Animal companion, spellstone, maybe To my side if you're going for full spell hunter. You're just going to get a board full of 3/3s or animal companions and some secrets. That's kinda okay actually, a good finisher but not really a deck that's going to win you games since you can't have any dmg spells because they will just kill your minions most likely. Maybe there are some spell cards I'm missing but this would be really bad in the kind of spell hunter we have now since you don't want to cast tracking or stuff like that again for example. Seems very bad and no idea why this is a new hero. Rexxar is arguably the best DK in the game, no way it's going to replace rexxar before the rotation.

Thank you for this analysis!
But.. Did you not forget about the deck construction restraints?
Gul’Dan requires you to play a very specific type of deck. This one will work with almost any Hunter deck. Maybe they will have to cut a Tracking.

The HP is really disappointing, they've could have done such a better work for that.
For what profit is it to a man, if he gains the world and loses his own soul?
I challenge you

4-5 secrets, 1 Spellstone, 2 Animal Companions and 1-2 Deadly Shots.
That is 8-10 spells you need to cast from turn 1 to 9. Good luck with the video :)

10 mana fill the board with 3/3s, then kill a couple of them with Kill Command, then bring them back to life with Revenge of the Wild
next turn die.........

Can't wait to make wild yog hunter with him.
I think the card is fine for spell Hunter.

Hearthstone needs more birds
this card is nuts in secret hunter. rebuy your christmas tree and fill your board with wolves and animal companions.
Formerly Sneeds. Twitch merge locked me out of my old account :(

Current Deck: [Moon-Arcane Medivh]
Watch me play and follow me on Twitch
Can't wait to play this in Quest Hunter lol. Turns out the raptors are really good at completing the quest
I really don't like this card.
