Pretty much! The people dunking on this card seem to forget that Holy Nova does get played, not only in arena. If the overkill triggers for each killed creature it could be good or bad depending on your hand. If you pair with Cosmic Anomaly or Celestial Emissary, then it gets even better.

Meh. Mage contain far better AOE and the RNG part of getting random mage spells per overkill is not really worth it.

I prefer to play Dragon's Fury. The only way this will ever become playable is when mage gets a passive effect "you have +3 spell damage". And even then this would be used for burst spells or better AoEs.
decent against zoo sometimes, wont trigger the overkill tho, excellent vs tokens, odd pally specially,
but where the card shine's is at 7 mana. you play Celestial Emissary then this and voila, refills your hand maybe even another Blast Wave, genius. but as always a aoe spells dependent on a combo usually are fringe so lets see. maybe running one copy of it in BS Mage
Really good card imo. An additional minor bonus in odd mage which may get overlooked is the fact that this can give you normally inaccessible even cards to fill out your curve.

I don't know how people are voting this bad, Celestial Emissary turns this into a flame strike that refills your hand how is that not cool? Mages are already playing an RNG five Mana AoE I'd say this is a better replacement.

Sometimes i make cards. I'd like to do that for a career one day if ever possible.

Then again this spell with Celestial Emissary does sound a bit better. The 2-card combo will deal 4 damage just like Flamestrike, but this time to all minions, and it will compensate the loss of the sacrificed 2/1...
Dunno, this sounds hard to judge. I am definitely sure this won't be used before the next rotation, because BSM has better inclusions. But after the rotation there could be a chance that control mage wants it. We have to see.
This card is really good against Odd Paladin, and if Odd Paladin is still tier 1 or tier 2, this will most certainly see play.
One thing that doesn't feel good to do vs Odd Paladin is coining Dragon's Fury on 4 to prevent a good Level Up turn (dealing 5, 6, or 7 damage to a bunch of 1 health minions....ew). You could instead coin Blast Wave, clear the board and refill your hand (synergy with Astromancer), generating a ton of value, and you still have Dragon's Fury for a board that is more appropriate for it.
seems pretty meeeeh, Holy Nova has proven that 5 mana 2 damage AoE is just waaay too late and doesn't really kill anything, i mean, Palas run Consecration becauuse Equality exists, because consec alone is on the weaker side of things, in fact you usually have to pair Consecration with Equality or on the worst cases Bloodmage Thalnos or Wild Pyromancer to even reach the numbers to kill things, so you'll usually have to pair this card with something jsut to reach exact numbers to kill things and won't really have too many chances to get procs from its overkill effect
I think this will be decent in the upcoming Odd Mages. RN if you want board clear in Odd Mage, you're limited to Flamestrike and Dragons Fury. And with Dragons Fury in ur deck, it discourages playing low cost spells. This adds odd costed board clear for the decks that don't want to build into the whole "big spells" thing. It also adds support to hand mages without making you draw more cards.
And let's be honest, how many mage spells are actually bad to have added to your hand? 90% of them are just not good enough to be built into the deck. I see this as a Cabalists Tome that affects the board, and usually gives less cards.

edit: I would definitely play a turn 3 Black Cat in order to enable coin + Blast Wave in Odd Mage, in certain situations.

I think I like this more than Dragon's Fury. It's more controlled and you can fill your hand with it.

Cabalist's Tome + Volcanic Potion had a baby and it's amazing.

great with bloodmage thalnos to draw a card and get an extra mage spell with your spell damage. possibly playable in wild reno mage
