This card is extremely underrated. Control Mage and Big Spell Mage would love to draw 3 without thinning their decks, and they usually have a lot of expensive stuff in the opening game regardless. Plus, you know ahead of time what you'll get. Incredibly efficient called card. The only problem is that mage has a ton of good card draw already. Perhaps this pushes out Bonfire Elemental, who often is intentionally played without the battlecry regardless
I mean getting up to 5 cards that are in your deck without actually drawing from it is pretty good, cards you get have a good chance of actually being good in your matchup because you mulligan for them, good for attrition matches and all but I really don't see this being played even in big mage, I think Sindragosa is a better value card than this and synergizes with DK hero power..and that card has a chance to give you this too so..I dunno, I'll try it but not sure if it'll make the cut.
A boring card overall that isn't going to change how it feels to play against control mages. We should be rating these cards on whether they are boring or not considering the fact that plenty of good and bad cards already exist, but the consensus is that we are not having fun. What does this card offer me that makes Hearthstone fun to play? It's text is unique but at it's core it just generates a bit of value. Yawn.
Developed Hearthstone player, have played and beaten highly skilled opponents on numerous occasions. Not that ambitious on ladder. Only play off of win streaks. Love theory more than meta.

This means 3 turns in one. Nice in theory. Nice meme.
Great with Quest Mage with Ice Block in wild. Not that good in Standard.

If it counts the coin as part of your opening hand, then going 2nd as thief rogue and getting this card might be INSANE. Otherwise, I don't really see how useful this could get in a reliable fashion aside from getting a second quest, which is, by the way, rotating soon for all you standard players. It could be a freaking lifesaver tho if you had somethin like blizzard in your opening hand as reno mage and really really are about to need a second one.
Strictly a control mage card. Glad to see they're finally taking mage back in that direction. If you can deal with its slowness it's a great card. Fun card. Draws 3 or 5 cards that tick quest. Might fulfill quest at that point so have to be careful not to mill quest reward. Progressing quest by 3-5 makes up for slowness.

To get good value out of this card, you'd have to intentionally have a bad opening. I guess getting two quests isn't terrible though.
Just an overall solid card imo.
Imagine the combos you could have by playing Open the Waygate twice.

An 8 mana 5/5 that creates 3-4 extra cards in your hand, not game breaking but lots of potential for any mulligan. I love it.

A card that can only be played when you're ahead. The effect is sweet, and can't wait to play it in my Control Mage :)

This card is definitely playable. I'm not sure if it'll make the cut for any tier 1 decks but it's not bad at any rate.
Now I'm DEFINITELY getting Patches in my opening hand with this pirate themed expansion.
