And most of these players will once again forget this lesson in early card judgement when the next release comes out...
At the risk of flogging a dead horse, I stand by my early judgement. I did concede that it might end up as a curve-filling card in a very specific kind of mid-tier deck and that's what it's done. It doesn't make it a good card.
Haha naw i think the horse is still alive on this one. Now that we can playtest it I personally feel its fair to judge it now.
For me, the value of a card is based on how playable it is, even if it is only in one deck type. There are plenty of cards that are considered great that would suck in most decks. If At My Side! Is playable at all, its certainly better than the hell storm it stirred up for for blizz :)
LOL, To My Side! is shit dude, and nothing you could say will change that. Spell hunter only "works" (at least for now) because of cards like Emerald Spellstone, a card that is insanely powerful, not because this stupid 6 mana card and that ******** RNG weapon. People weren't wrong, they were right.
Deal with it.
Eh. I'll admit that the spell stone makes spell hunter work and not this card. That is pretty obvious, though I think Flanking strike is nearly as good. Though I don't think this card is shit. Shit cards just don't get played. This card is perfectly fine in spell hunter. It's mediocre and in reality is in an important spot mana wise for spell hunter. Which makes it not shit. The fact the card gives you two extra Huffers (added to your already 4 huffers because ALWAYS FUCKING HUFFER) is pretty solid. All kidding aside is decent in spell hunter. Most thought it was shit because no one believed spell hunter was going to be good. It turned out that spell hunter isn't bad, so the card isn't bad either. It's only will be as good as that deck is.
I too stand by my choice. To My Side is a filler more than a solid pick in spell hunter - and is absolutely terrible in any other deck. Give hunter a good 6-mana spell, and To my Side will vanish from sight. Simple as that.
To begin with, I doubt that Spell Hunter will survive in the meta for very long. There are still some new combinations being tested, some decks optimized - Spell Hunter is pretty rigid, since you practically need all these spells to make it work...

This card is really good in spell Hunter. This was my first craft for Kobolds (I got the hunter legendary weapon opening packs). Yes if it only summoned you 1 animal companion, it would suck, but when your actually playing spell hunter, it always summons 2. ALWAYS. And 2 animal companions for 6 mana is amazing, especially when you have 4 3/3 wolves on the board, and you make them 4/3 wolves + a Huffer gives a 6 mana 17 damage combo in best case scenario.
Fun to see that everyone thought it would make it, and it did... Trump you were right it would see play one day. You were just wrong on how freaking soon.

Could you elaborate, please?
Bare with me because some of this will sound obvious. Spell Hunter would not be playable without Animal Companion, Flanking Strike, Lesser Emerald Spellstone, and To My Side! This package of three cards give Hunter development without minions. Pretty clear, right? (Call of the Wild comes too late. And frankly, I bet most would play a 3rd To My Side if they could.)
Spellstone is the best of these, I don't think anyone would dispute that. But To My Side! is second most important in that package. Hunter has more than enough early game to play spell hunter. But Spellstone and To My Side are it's only midgame. (It's late game mostly being the weapon and Rexxar). Without To My Side, your midgame would be empty. You wouldn't be able to answer opposing boards, or develop your own board that's worth a damn.
To My Side! Isn't just "play two animal companions" the way most people think it is. It's "play an animal companion, draw another one from outside your deck, and cast it." Drawing from outside your deck and casting them is powerful and much more resource efficient. This is why blizzard has stopped bundling cards the way they did when Call of the Wild was 8 mana. Instead, we have To My Side and Branching Paths.
And most of these players will once again forget this lesson in early card judgement when the next release comes out...

Do you realize at that point, you are going to run other minions, and it's not longer spell hunter. It's midrange hunter. And we're not talking about To My Side in midrange hunter.

So you're arguing apples to oranges.
But if you run two Savannah Highmanes and other card, instead of two To My Side! and the legendary weapon you are improving the god damn deck. Why the f...k anyone would want to play with a deck like that, when you can improve it by just replacing To My Side! and Rhok'delar? That says a lot about this cards, but it seems that some of you are obssesed with this new concept of a hunter deck that runs no minions for some odd reason and want to defend it at all cost.
I cannot believe people are still defending this card. Sure, it's not terrible if you insist on tieing your hands on your back and stop using mininons. However, To My Side! is not what makes spell hunter shine. Emerald Spellstone, Eaglehorn Bow and secrets are the important ones. Swap out a few unimportant spells, and have a secret hunter instead. Then you can actually evolve the deck with the meta instead of staying this one same deck that is bound to disappear as soon as everyone is playing something solid.
To My Side! got some time in the sun in the beginning because Blizzard bludgeoned us on the head with this 'new archetype', when the archetype is actually just a narrower variant of a secret hunter.

You forgot Flanking Strike. It's actually pretty decent if you think about it. 4 mana 3/3 deal 3 damage to a minion is pretty strong. It's actually a combination of a few new spells that makes this archetype so playable. Wandering Monster is another minion that is hidden in a spell.

Yes, Flanking Strike is a strong card. You are also right in that an 'all spell hunter' is playable. Quite good, but it is going to be less and less so the more the meta evolves.
What I'm saying is somewhat nuanced. To My Side! is not weak in 'all spell hunter'; but it is a weak card because 'all spell hunter' cannot adapt to the meta, and because it is completely repaceable by other equally or more powerful cards. Only Rhok'delar saves it from not being played at all.

There are some obvious upsides and downsides here. It's a matter of what you are trying to accomplish. Savannah Highmane doesn't really aim to do the same things. It's generally slower. For instance getting huffer behind a misha or with a Leokk is more damage right now in addition to buffing anything else you may have on the board. However Savannah Highmane will generally give more value and is great card to against board clears.
The thing I was most surprised to find out about spell hunter is that it's pretty fast. Midrange hunter goes for more value that straight up aggression.
As far as defending the deck goes, it's actually pretty good and has a lot of potential in the future. I think it'll end up tier 3 or perhaps low tier two. Also, and most importantly it's not always about playing the best decks. Sometimes it's just about playing something that is fun. Why it's fun? Well that is pretty subjective so no one can really argue why something may be fun for some people. People will defend what they enjoy, though honestly I don't know why, if you like who gives a flying fuck what someone else thinks.

There are a number of decks that aren't playable because of one card. Raza priest is gonna be kaput once Raza rotates for example.
That being said I agree with you as to why spell hunter is likely going to be not top tier. There is very very little room to change the deck at the moment. As the meta changes, spell hunter can't really adapt. That being said, we'll see how far the current list will take it and hope we can get some more support at rotation.
I tried this and the weapon. In the end I cut them (and a few low impact filler spells) for 2 Highmanes, 2 cloaked huntesses, and 2 secret keepers.
Performed better with 80% spell deck than 100%.
So while two companions for 6 mana is undoubtedly great, the restriction makes it a no no.
Yea maybe bext expansion will give us a better secret or two to offset the short comings.. i have been playing a build with minions as well, running 2 mana wraiths and two doom sayers. Believe it or not its been causing some problems for people... even if they just slow their curve a bit to remove them that helps get ahead. Just thought id share
You can compare with Savannah Highmane. Same cost, less stickiness, but more impact, if played within Spell setup. So, it is a good card, but only in context.
The real problem is the Spell Hunter. It needs more support. Right now it is a fancy playstyle with great downside and marginal upside.
If they don't give more support to the archetype, we are talking about Casual cards, indeed, nothing more.
(Much like what happened so far with Shaman freeze package, sadly).
