So, they are really pushing mage to only run expensive spells. It is just too bad Frostbolt, Primordial Glyph and secrets like Ice Block are the best cards the class has. I am not sold on this...
Blizzard: How do we make sure Frostbolt, Arcane Intellect and Fireball are no longer auto-include in all Mage decks so we don't have to rotate them to Hall of Fame?
Anything 3+ is good for cost looking at history. But the question is for anything bigger, his mage getting enough big spells to support the archetype? What would you run in addition to compliment the maybe 15 potentially viable bigger spells?
Remember when one of Warlock's unique trait was that it has "Deal damage to ALL minions removal"? Yeah, that's gone now. Priest has a better Twisting Nether and Mage and Warrior have better Hellfire / Felfire Potion...
Btw, this is already good if it hits a 3 mana spell. That means apart from Frostbolt or Glyph you'll always go even.
This seems really unfair, you've no need to run things like Volcanic Potion with a card like this. If you just stack your deck with big spells then it becomes more powerful than aFlamestrike on 5 mana and you only need to run single target removal as this will act as your board clear.
I get the point about cards like Frostbolt or Ice Block or even Arcane Intellect but I think there is enough flexibility in mage spells right now to make this viable.
Good board clear vs aggro because only need 3 dmg to wipe them out. But you cant clear the board against big minion unless you are lucky with 7+ spell. Mage need samethibg like brawl or twisting neither. So it is a good card but cant really improve mage weaker matchup much.
In a big spell mage this is an amazing card and time will tell if that deck sees play. But as long as Primordial Glyph is an auto include there will always be a risk of this being a more expensive Volcanic Potion. But even pulling Fireball makes it a discounted Flamestrike, and the possible high roll is super worth it... for me, its just this side of playable- almost very good.

This could push a whole new archetipe of Big Spell Mage. I think will be fun, so many cards to support...

Very good i think, but needs a deck with big spells to get the best value.
The art of the kobold though getting his butt burned is pretty funny.
I like it.
Nice. Good value for any spell 4 mana or more.
This is going in my mage deck with 2x Deck of Wonders :D
So much value, and for good measure have a Pyroblast in there as well.

Answer: Push BIG SPELL MAGE!
So, this play a copy of the spell or the spell, thinning your deck?

You can probably pull 1 ice block out before you play this. If you keep frost bolt and glyph on Mulligan it's not too bad.
Not super reliable, but you can probably get a 5 damage clear off 70+% of the time.
I think they are realizing they were too stingy with board clear costing so we are seeing a lot of creep on that front.

You can run secrets with this. Excavated Evil
