Wow, that is pretty great compared to Mirror Entity, and Mirror is frequently played. Mirror is terrible if they drop a small minion, and while this is not great either, I'd much rather have them take a bunch of damage and lose their minion, than me having a measly 1/1 that does nothing.
if they play a 11into this, it’s a fireball to face. How is that not great.
A fireball to the face on turn 3 or 4 is typically not a winning strategy. That said, while it's not great, it's also not that bad either, and it is close to a worst case scenario.
This is an incredibly powerful secret, and unlike so many of the other Mage secrets, this one never really gives you a bad outcome. Either you kill their mid-sized creature or you punch them in the head, both are positive outcomes for the kind of deck you want to put this in which is the same deck you'de want to slot Aluneth into. You can very easily play this in a very aggressive burn mage which shoots fireballs and lasers at your opponent until they fall over and die and in fact, this card is SO good that it makes all the other Mage secrets way more playable. Now your opponent MAY actually end up playing right into your Mirror Entity because they're too scared of taking 5 to the face if that secret ends up being Fire Rune.
Thanks to this card you can now play a much bigger and more complete secret package with Counterspell, and Mirror Entity. Hell, you may even want to start playing Kirin Tor Mage and Kabal Crystal Runner because of this. Probably not Kabal Lackey because none of these secrets are that great on turn 1.
TLDR; this card may change the secret meta almost as much as Arcanologist did.
tenpo mage alreafy plays those cards though.. it's just to make the deck tier 1 now.. so much burn..

Man, have you come on time machine from 2016? :D Secret mage with all those cards (except Lackey) is one of viable ladder deck for nearly 2 expansions.

We saw a lot of secret decks back when Flamewaker was back in Standard but since the rotation, Tempo Mage decks have been somewhat shafted. This card could take Tempo Mage back to Mid to Low tier 2.
Secret Agro mage will play this at least as a 1 off.. The face damage realy matters there. However its totally possible that Spiteful Summoner will dominate Meta and this will not see play because of that.
People are heavily overevaluatingthe value of face damage against decks that run small minions.
People are overvaluing it, but it is still better than mirror entity when they play a crap minion.
I expect it will see play in secret mage and possible in non-Secret based decks if more aggressive mage variants exist.
Against something like zoo, face hunter and pirate warrior, dealing up to 5 face damage is nearly irrelevant as a tempo mage, as your gameplan against these decks is almost always survival/board control rather than racing them. Sure, it is still SORT of better than just spending 3 mana playing a flame imp or even a 1/1, but it's really not that far off.
Against decks such as Control Warlock/Priest/Warrior you would much rather to have the big body that they play on the board to pressure them(or at least draw removal and leave you with a better chance of sticking something like an antonidas or medivh on the board later on).
One of the more interactive cards in the set. Please remember this is the last 4 months before cards rotate out. I expect to see a nice final sendoff for N'Zoth! There will be more deathrattles revealed and I believe a class will get a tier 1 N'zoth deck. I voted the secret as playable. Could get better after rotation.
It's basically fireball for 3 mana that's usually going to get a little bit of burn damage in. The only trick is you dont get to target who gets fireballed.
really good in face mage, which I will be playing a lot of lol. I'm happy to see some good aggro cards, it's been awhile
How do you play around this? How do you stop this card from giving your opponent max value? Does divine shield even eat all of the damage?
How would it interact with Divine Shield? Would you get no face damage, or 6 face damage?
Bad, won't see play.

I just want to play this against an exodia mage. Lol
How can people rate this as good ?
It's strictly worse than potion of poly / mirror entity .
Very creative, could definitely see some play in the right hands.

The first good offensive secret for mage, and its really good.

Mage counter to quest mage.
