Hello everyone and thanks in advance for the help.
I have been playing since the beginning but only casually and very sporadic for a few months at a time.
I have dropped a good amount of coin on card pack and have built up a descent collection of cards. Mostly from the older sets.
I like to be competitive and am kind of a hoarder with my collection.
I have recently started using inn keeper which doesn't seem very useful really, but I was intrigued by the section that says I could get around 17,000 dust for disenchanting the cards that will be or have been cycled out. Is this a smart idea?
Most of the decks I have seen use the wild format. Are the official tournaments Standard only?
Is there a benefit to hoarding the card collections?
Most of the official tournaments are standart, there might be a couple wild tours here and there but overall it's 99% standart. As for the dust well if you are no playing wild and you don't plan to ever do it then you have a lot of dust there and literally no other use but honestly I would not recommend it, you mught want to jump into the wild meta at some point and you'll feel pretty shtty if you dusted your whole collection, just check which cards you have that are considered just bad/ absolutely unplayable and dust those, there's no reason to keep those cause they see no play at all, from that you should be able to get an ok chunk of dust still.
several things need to be taken in count if you're planning some drastic dusting of your collection ;
what are you collecting for?
why are you playing the game?
do you see yourself using Wild cards someday?
if you imagine scenarios where Standard is unplayable for you (various reasons - the dust you spent was spent on a deck that sunk below tier3 or more, the new power decks actually cost more than you have after dismantling your collection, the main decks out there you can't stand at all...) will you quit the game after destroying your collection?
being aware that you only get a quarter of your dust value from cards, even though those cards are still playable in Wild, are you still willing to do that? because going Standard only or not, it's a big loss that happens with every rotation.
I am against dusting collections, especially before you are aware of the costs and power of the next deck you'll craft. for example, when Ungoro came around I crafted Exodia Mage, some epics/legendaries and Elementals (since they're so versatile and can go in every class, it seemed a sure bet!) but in the end all I got was weak cards that barely see play and cost me +10,000 dust. then again, I didn't dust nothing from my collection except garbage. (and I kept some of my favorites, like Majordomo.) I also play Wild a lot, btw.
basically, dusting collections is automatically a big dust loss, as we get only 1/4 for our value. there's also scenarios where what we invest falls flat. it is better to keep more options and versatility open to be able to expand in whatever direction you want to go, and slowly earn the cards that you want rather than selling your stuff dirt-cheap just to get it immediately. (and from my example before, you might get low tier decks anyway)

wild format is so far, although they started some tournements and adventures can again be bought though only with money over the blizzard store, not really supported by blizzard. Just try to get a some wild booster packs or adventures with gold, not possible.
what you do with wild cards is up to you, I personally don't intend to ever dust ragnaros or emperor thaurissan although I currently only play standard. sometimes I jsut want to play one of my old decks again.
I agree with the overall sentiment, and would only dust 'bad' cards and keep 'good' ones. That said, I'd ask myself: Why do I care about tournament formats? Are you planning to play HS tournaments? If so, you need to build a bigger collection to the point where you aren't worrying about dusting cards to build decks. If not -- then why care what is popular / good at tournaments? Just play what you like to play.
If you aren't interested in Wild, dust your wild stuff. If you're interested in Wild, keep it. My two cents.
I wouldn't dust all wild cards. There is too much value in having a second game format for when standard gets stale (or want to play an old deck for nostalgia value.
However, cards that were bad and have been rotated to wild will probably never be good so dust away. (Caution though on tribal synergy as bad tribes can eventually get good).
Don't dust all your Wilds. That's the mistake a lot of people make. Eventually you will get burnt out of Standard and want to take a break to Wild, but you won't have any Wild cards left. Some Wild cards are too good not to dust, like Dr. Boom, Kel'thuzad, Reno Jackson, and more. Some though are pretty situational and disposable, like Majordomo.
Tell you what, I play a lot of Wild, so tell me which cards you were thinking of dusting and I'll tell you whether you should dust them or not.
thanks for all the info. gave me something to think about. is there a web link to a list of unusable cards?
better just post your card collection and ask again together with what you are planning to play. the websites with information about what to dust are mostly not reliable. else check this forum this is for sure already the 100th post like this
I would never dust my whole wild collection. I only get rid of cards sparingly when A) they're at least epic rarity, and B) I really don't foresee them being relevant in the future. Cards like Master of Ceremonies for example. Gimme dat dust.
