It's the shame thing all over again as with Evil Heckler and Ice Rager, cards that are powercreep but dont jump over the "power curve" are not really power creep:

End of thread. Seriously, nothing else really needs to be said because this is exactly what's up.
This is better in 3 ways, though. It costs 1 less mana, has 1 more health, and has the option of being something else. Just saying it's a class card isn't good enough here. Scarabs in general should probably be 1/4 taunts instead of 1/5s.

Except that the 'power curve' of the game this entire video relies on is impossible to measure and subjective. It is simply wrong to say that printing strictly better cards is not power creep - it obviously is. Potentially not damaging power creep, but still power creep. These extra credit videos get on my my nerves, they present themselves as 'fact after fact after fact', but the core principle of this video is anything but factual.

Except that extra credit is absolutely right in this video. The issue is anyway not that neither Magma Rager nor Booty Bay Bodyguard are playable, but that also Evil Heckler and Ice Rager are not competetively playable. Therefore these cards where not powercreep in view of the game. Of course they were powercreeped in view of the former cards, but that is irrelevant since it did not have any impact on the game whatsoever. And if it has no impact on the game, there is no point in dicussing a card to card powercreep.
And generally it is pretty easy to evaluate in hindsight whether a card was above or below the power curve by checking whether it has been played or not (and in which decks).
OnTopic: That said, Druid of the swarm seems of course to be the power curve since it is played in Tier 1 decks. Which is no wonder, since it is a 2 mana minion that is stronger than a (bad) 3 mana minion. And in lower mana region, 1 mana or 1 statpoint makes a huge difference. here we have 1 mana, 1 stat and flexibility...

No, what you are refering to is what's called a "Power Spike". "Power Creep" is by definition of what's creeping along, as in how will this effect the game now is not the question but rather is this effect now going to affect the future cards and how will those cards affect the future of those cards, etc.
A good example of actual power creep is in Pokémon.
Look up some stuff in regards to PokémonEX and how it has evolved over the years. I will give you a video but if you aren't interested in watching 20 minutes of quite interesting game design in regards to cardgames... you aren't going to get far with it but even so you should be able to relatively quickly see what happened in that game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPkHnjHUCjU
Hearthstone has what's called positive power creep which by some people is refered to as a power spike. I can't tell you where I have heard it because I can't remember myself but it explains the prospect quite nicely as these cards haven't had a lasting creeping effect on the game.
Druid of the Swarm is a better card yes and so is Stonehill Defender but... since the card saw no play already, that doesn't matter. All that has happened in practice is that we now have an actual playable and popular 3 mana 1/4 taunt and that's the full extent of this effect. Especially considering that the card will rotate out in about another year and a half meaning ... its not even permanent.
This 'spike' in power will only last for as long as the card exists in the standard rotation. In regards to making comments onto Wild, well... once again... Silverback Patriach hasn't ever seen play. It IS however interesting to keep it in the game just the way it is because of effects like Ram Wrangler and Deathstalker Rexxar.
Just because a card is by far not playable and is frankly quite silly to the borderline of stupid to put into your deck, it still serves a purpose if it is made to serve a purpose.
Thanks for taking some time with that response, I'll check the video out. I had never heard of 'power spike' before now.

3 Mana 1/4 Taunt vs 2 Mana 1/5 Taunt or Choose a 1/2 Poison.
wtf
/edit: to elaborate a little bit more regarding powercreep. I think it's too powerful and i chose Silverback to illustrate my point.
Just had a Token Druid starting with a Pirate + Patches + Innervate + 1/5 Taunt. It's very disheartening.
The cake is a lie.
It's a class card, and besides there have been power creeps sine GvG, this isn't new.

Gnomeregan Infantry also indicates that being a beast (Silverback Patriarch) is equal to having Charge. Stonehill Defender same stats and cost with an amazing discover effect. Fierce Monkey same cost, also a beast, has 2 more attack.
Never understood why these cards were so similar.
