The card is basically Loot Hoarder. But with 2 Health. Oh and it plays the card instead of just drawing it. Come on, i can't be the only thinking that this is by far the best card in the game. Let's face it, playing secrets is not the "big disadvantage" that would make this card balanced. Hunters were playing them before this card came and mage actually have some pretty good ones. What do you lads reckon?
I agree. However, it is probably the only thing that is going to keep Hunters alive in the upcoming meta, so nerfing it wouldn't help the overall health of the game. Hopefully the next card expansion contains more ways of dealing with Secrets.
I feel like the card would be just fine if it added the secret to the hand and not played it. And yeah that secret mage build you mention is pretty strong. It is really good against my handlock unfortunately :(
Not that broken after the incoming Hunter nerf. Mage is weak post-Naxx and Paladin doesn't even bother to use any secret. As for the secret Mage next week, all the small minions in zoolock will ruin that deck with ease.
Given its randomness, no. Not broken. Sure it's very powerful but it can screw you over big time if the opponent looks to bait the secrets out.
Ex) Kill Mad Scientist, attack face with Searing Totem into a Freezing Trap+Empty Explosive Trap byebye huntard traps. I actually enjoyed making hunters waste their precious traps quite a lot this season lol
I would say Mad Scientist is ridiculously strong, and is definitely OP in a vacuum. However, since secret decks aside from Mage were originally quite weak, this card did not create an imbalanced meta aside from Hunter, which is now about to be nerfed. So I do think it is an excellent card, but it doesn't warrant the current incessant whining of other players. It's just like Dark Cultist - it might be thebest card in the game, but no one is asking for a nerf since Priest was not very strong before.

Not even close.... Its good but its not that good.
You sure? It's a 3/4 for 3. The only other 3/4 is for 4 mana. And as we all know, 3/4s are so good that Blizzard banned them until recently, to prevent the game from exploding from the sheer awesomeness of 3/4s. :P
On a more serious note, I would say that it is the best common card in Arena. A vanilla 3/4 for 3 is already in the excellent tier for Arena (Chillwind Yeti is the best neutral common according to Trump, while Boulderfist Ogre is in the top 10), and its card text is awesome.
Well mad scientist has a more specific use than Loot Hoarder. Only 3 classes can actually use him and of those 3 i think only 2 have good secrets. Loot hoarder can be played with all classes and draws any card for you. Mainly though in my experience with CCG's the cards get better over time. Why? To create incentive for people to buy the new packs, get the expansions etc.
The scientist could probably be a 2/1 and still be fine. Being resistant to hero power removal is limiting certain classes (Druid gets hurt the most). Still not totally game breaking as is though. You're just limited to running a smaller subset of classes and builds if the card is everywhere.
i have to agree that the scientist must be nerfed probably into a 2/1. it is just so good. it basically is a body+card draw+a free turn of playing the drawn card+thins your deck+gains you tempo. see? enough reasons to nerf it.
I think his ability is the one that's the problem. Free traps is just too much value. Make it so that it tutors for the Secret, but it doesn't put it into play.
It's probably the most absurd card printed I've ever seen in a CCG, even as a 1/1 it passes the "is it better than Bloodmage Thalnos or Novice Engineer" test.
For 2 mana it is only a 2/2 and the random secret can screw you over. You don't want to freezing trap a 1 or 2 drop and you don't want to waste a mirror image/vaporise too early either. The card is fine as it is.

Sorry about putting it in the wrong section.

It is the best minion in the game hands down and yeah it is competently broken haha I am playing secret mage and it is great
It's pretty powerful. And when most Hunters are gone, secret mages are going to run rampant with all of their Counterspell/Mirror Entity nonsense.

Put your faith in the Lock. *Desideratus Bellum*
It is powerful but not broken. The only reason it appears broken is because you can go Scientist into KT Mage and get double secrets on turn 3.

Mad scientist draws a card from your deck and plays it for free, yet it still has better stats than loot hoarder.
It could seriously be a 1/1 and still be played in any deck with secrets. Why is it a 2/2?

it's a good card, but it doesn't need a nerf
It could still be a 2/2 and have deathrattle: add a random secret to your hand
(not sure if I worded that right, but it basically gives you any random secret)
but that's just my two cents.
This is statement is false.
