"Ragnaros is heavily played in both control and mid-range decks and even shows up as a finisher in certain types of aggro decks. His high immediate value and strength at the eight mana cost made the decision during deck-building, “Is this eight mana minion better than Ragnaros?” rather than, “Is this eight mana minion the best choice for my deck type?” Dozens of cards in the seven to nine mana range never saw play because Ragnaros was always the easy choice in that range, and some decks only want to run one high cost card."

I didn't have a signature so Flux added one for me.
I can see Blizzard's point. Remove the best 8 drop from standard to make other sub par legendaries more playable, I get it. But really... cmon... it's Ragnaros the Firelord... There better be some bomb 7-8 drops coming up.
I'm okay with this ONLY IF they make good 8 drops in all future expansions and at least some adventures. Good CLASS 8 drops please.
But thats the thing. If they bothered making good eight drops then they wouldn't need to ship Rag to wild in the first place. I don't understand their insistence in making super overpowered 1 and 2 drops while making no great high end cards. The fact that they felt the need to send Ragnaros to wild does not make me very optimistic for the 8 drops coming out this year.
I'm honestly surprised how many people voted "Hate it" on the poll. I for one am sick of playing midrange or control matches going into turn 8 for the WHOA HE PLAYED A TEMPO RAGNAROS NO WAY I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH A CREATIVE PLAY moment. Yeah Ragnaros is a cool card but he's overplayed and needs to cycle out to make room for other 8 drops. Hopefully they will be better than The Boogeyman in the future.
I get their point. Everyone is thinking which legendary to put in their deck comparing it to Ragnaros. And only few have the same value as him. Tirion Fordring and Sylvanas Windrunner are 2
To me, Ragnaros and his RNG dunks are almost synonymous with Hearthstone. When somebody dropped this back in the day, you were jelly as fuck. Back when you were a complete noob, this was the guy you most wanted to get from a pack. This is like Konami banning Blue Eyes White Dragon in Yugioh.
But, I kind of understand their reasoning. I think it's backwards, but I understand it. Removing a great 8 drop so that worse 8 drops might see play is kind of stupid to me.
Ragnaros and Kel'thuzad are better in N'zoth decks as boombots have very poor synergy with N'zoth, sometimes anti-synergy. And N'zoth is very popular in Wild ;)
I'm aware, I'm a frequent wild player. I'm not sure if there would be a deck greedy enough to run both Ragnaros and N'Zoth.

There are plenty of decks capable of playing both cards

Everything that isn't about elephants is irrelephant.
Rag autoinclude in current meta? Does they even play the game? Wasting 8 mana for useless body and chance to kill one minion is useless when all you facing is aggro. Even in control matchup its pretty unreliable. I think rag one of better exemple of fun and balanced card and there is no reason to remove him.

Well, these are bulls... Right now if for some reason Ragnaros wouldn't be playable, i wouldn't replace him in any of my decks with an 8 9 or 10 or 7 drop. I would play a 5 or 6 drop drop instead. Other cards do not see play because of their bad design, not because of Ragnaros. You cant design an 8 drop that does nothing else than sit there on the 8th turn and on the other hand you design a handul of cards able to kill anyone before turn 6. The do-nothing 8 drop will not see play.
I actually like this, He was an annoying card for sure. Either completely tanking the other player, or doing next to nothing, It's not actually a good design for a good card. On the other hand, there defintely should be more good 8 drops. Actual playable/semiplayable 8 drops are few. They need to think about their design and power level a lot more.
Come on people it is not like he is gone - Wild is a better format anyway - Standard is full of the same boring face/reno decks
Yeah I'm looking forward to Wild more than ever. Because it will be the only place you can really have good options for deck building. I only play Wild for the most part, and Standard is too limited for me.
I haven't actually seen this card in ages so really don't know why it had to go, less good high drops will equal to more cheeper minions in play instead, i mean it's not like i am going to throw in the boogie monster or something simlar instead.
Yeah it's kinda of odd moving him to Wild only lol The card is not even played that much at all

Why am I sticky?

This was long overdue.

FOR THE HORDE!
RIP Ragnaros the Firelord. In wild he's outclassed by Dr. Boom.

we still have Ragnaros, Lightlord

Well, i can forgive them for making Small-time Buccaneer. Even for Karazhan.
But this? DIE, INSECT!11
