Not making this nerf will leave Blizzard regretting the eater of secrets being only angled at secret paladin that wont even see play in the wotg meta. Many decks I play are board control tempo-ish Where a card like Kezan mystic shines is that it steals their win condition of being able to live... However it also gives you that survival option. Eater of secrets doesn't stop the incoming lethal damage it just buffs a minion... which if you noticed lately the freeze mage gives 0 shits about.

I'm guessing they considered it but the fact is that Freeze Mage has the hardest match-up in Hearthstone when facing Control Warrior. If Freeze Mage ever rises up, so will Control Warrior.
Freeze Mage lost because it had to get through a wall of shit. they can add 2 cabalist to their deck now because they aren't running mad scientist and probably not 2 ice barriers in place of other things. Freeze mage timed out most of the time. but if they can add 6 more cards to their hand not from their deck that can hugely impact a CW matchup, they could be on equal grounds

Who actually wants this? I know I really love games where you wait to see who dies of old age first. However, as much as I don't like that scenario It's not control warrior that will rise up to meet the wave of mage that has lack of board interactivity but the opposite. The aggro pallys (Divine favor remains unchanged as well) will rise to meet the freeze mage. If I have learned only one thing with this game is we do not see slow decks met normally with other slow decks but by the fastest deck.

Unlikely that Freeze Mage vs CW will ever be 50:50 since CW isn't just ahead due to armor but also since it has the ability to deal damage which Freeze Mage can't avoid as easy as against other decks like Zoo or Paladin. Grommash Hellscream and Weapons are tough opponents for Freeze Mage, let alone that you can't freeze Rangnaros.
Any attempt to tech a deck against a 5:95 matchup is obviously wasted time, let aloine that such a tech card lowers your winrate against every other deck in the format.
However, it's very surprising Alex doesn't get nerfed, considering less obvious card [card]like Blade Flurry[/card} and Hunters Mark got nerfed, especially since Blizzard never liked the way how Freeze Mage worked. I'd guess this set still contains a strong tech card against Freeze Mage.
Loss of death bite was a huge impact and if mage decks take the approach of just spamming spells to face which has been seen often in torch decks then it might become a 25/75 match in the least.
Are you joking? To nerf Alex they would have to give players 1600 dust. It's a lot easier to just let Reno fix it.

Start of Year: Provoke the failure of 3 expansions, force nerfs on otherwise balanced cards, bring deckbuilding to an all-time low and get rotated one year earlier for being such a threat to the game's health. - Genn and Baku's historical entry on the White Book of Shit Design, shortly before retiring unpunished
I'm surprised too that there's not a single Freeze Mage card on the nerf list. I suspect we'll see something introduced similar to Eater of Secrets that makes a hard counter to Freeze Mage somehow. Maybe a "Gain life equal to your opponent's Armor" to help counter FM and CW.

Or maybe a card like "Battlecry: Destroy all enemy secrets. Gain +1/+1 for each"

Yea I'm thinking the same thing. It does seem odd to me that they'd let Freeze Mage run rampant when they were already clear that they didn't like how non-interactive it is. Eater of Secrets + the loss of Mad Scientist in Standard is pretty big though.
Blizzard is very much against burst damage out of nowhere, considering this latest round of nerfs as well as the Grim Patron nerf and Miracle Rogue nerfs earlier. They are also against uninteractive decks. Yet freeze mage was untouched. Despite healbot leaving, Loatheb leaving, Kezan Mystic leaving (Eater is much worse against Freeze mage), despite one of its bad matchups being removed (Combo druid).
Alexstrasza is 15 damage to the opposing hero and an 8/8 body on the board for 9 mana. It cannot be prevented by taunts, or even bolf ramshield. So Druid's combo (14 damage, stoppable by taunt or bolf), and Rogue oil burst shenanigans (stoppable by taunt...or bolf) were nerfed out of the game. Yet this single broken card in freeze mage is allowed to stay. A deck which is the least interactive to have ever existed and has been around since the beginning of the game and uses many of the classic set is left completely untouched.
Just very inconsistent with Blizzard's supposed reasoning for nerfing things.
If you wanted to nerf FM alex wouldn't be the correct choice, as it would affect other decks too.
Anyway, I love the deck as a concept and have nothing against it existing(and regarding the age old point about it being uninteractive, I respectfully disagree), but I also believe it will be too powerful in standard.

But it does up to 15 damage and an 8/8 body for 9 mana, and has healing flexibility. It should be nerfed.

It's a pyroblast and a half with a body attached.
9+ mana cards are meant to be used to win games with, otherwise people just won't play them no matter how much potential "value" they have(see:foe reaper 9000).
Anyway, this is beside the point, my point was that alex is a card that sees play in other decks too and nerfing it would harm more than FM.
I think the reason Freeze mage doesn't get nerfed is because it usually dies to braindead aggro decks.
Let's face it, Blizzard has a history of cattering to the playerbase by dumbing down the game, so it would make sense that they'd nerf Miracle Rogue and Grim Patron ( That respectively did well against and utterly destroyed aggro decks ) but not Freeze mage.

Freeze Mage is still alive boiiiiis
LONG LIVE FREEZE MAGE
SUCK IT NEEEEEEEEERDS
I returned to this game much like how a recovering alcoholic can relapse.
Quite weird, indeed. Expect Freeze Mage to be quite good in Standard.
Too good a card with too unique an effect to nerf. I'm personally delighted as Alex is a really well designed card and the cost is about right too.

nooo my free 1200 dust (duplicated alexstraza)
They did not nerf one card that needed to be nerfed. Go figure. They were too busy nerfing that broken card - Arcane Golem.

You forgot to add "Kappa" at the end of that sentence.
