As the first ever 3 mana 3/4, it is a solid early body with a relevant effect when it dies. Not sure if its enough to push Priest into competitive levels, but it sure looks solid in Arena.
Edit: I should also mention I wish this had synergy with Auchenai Soulpriest, but sadly it does not. : (
Im glad its an early game creature. I always find early game to be light for priest (excluding blademaster circle healing combo). I will probably try to find a way to put it in one of my decks to see how it runs. Its kind of like a weaker yeti with a bonus
Nothing amazing, but being a 3 drop 3/4 with a buff to a random minion you control when he dies, he ends up giving you just under another two Injured Blademasters worth of stats total. Not bad at all. I could see this guy going in a few different priest decks. While he's not gonna lead to any major combos, +3 health on any minion is not too shabby.
Random thought for plays. Turn 3 this guy, turn 4 Lightspawn and now you have a little bit of a buffing time bomb waiting to go off.
Amazing card. Arguably the best class card revealed so far and with only hunter to go, things are looking promising for priests. Even without the effect, a 3 mana 3/4 seems quite good. The Deathrattle takes it over the top from solid card to absolutely incredible.
The only 3 drop without drawbacks that compares is Misha and personally I think the Dark Cultist's Deathrattle has it pull ahead as the better minion. There's also the added benefit of not having to rely on RNG so you're guaranteed a 3/4 body with a great effect every time. I'd go as far as to say that this may be the single best 3 drop in the game. Even King Mukla which is legendary has the drawback of giving your opponent bananas.
This card feels really strong. A 3/4 for 3 trades with almost every 3 drop (and survives for most). When he does die, he 1-ups another minion on your board by a ton. 3 health is essentially another trade on turn 3. You could easily 2 for 1 your opponent using his deathrattle. This forces your opponent to play around his deathrattle akin to Sylvanas (not necessarily in power level but in the way it forces your opponent to rethink their next move). For example, say you have a 3/2 and Dark cultist on the field and your opponent can play a yeti. On board, you have an efficient way to deal with the yeti because you just run the cultist into the yeti to make a 3/5 which then finishes it off.
In a way, this kind of remedies the priests lack of ability to remove 4 attack minions.

How can you say all those things and still open with "nothing amazing". You clearly understand this guy is a pimp but you don't want to give him the credit :)
Also "while he's not going to lead to any major combos", he doesn't have to. He's an always-good power drop. He's a combo within himself.
What I meant by amazing wasn't that he isn't good, just that he's just good. He's not a bad card, and he's not an amazing game changing card. He's just a solid card that will help priests without returning them to the strength of the 8 drop Mind Control.

You thought there would be something inspirational here didn't you?
I think people are underestimating how strong a 3 mana 3/4 is, even if its effect doesn't trigger. It literally beast every 3-mana minion on its own and works wonders against aggro. 4 health is hard to deal with early on, and 3 attack is enough to provide a solid amount of pressure and kill, for example, Harvest Golems. A 3/4 is nearly guaranteed to at the very least match the opponent. Add the fact that if they don't kill it straight off, you can play a minion and trade and get a free 3 health, and this card gets really, really solid. This card is enough to make me play some Priest after Naxx, I think. Everything you could ask for in Priest except something to kill Yetis and something to pull off a big finisher combo.
Though, on further thought, Priest is gonna have to have its shit together to deal with deathrattles galore (including Cairnes) and Nerubian Eggs.
And chizuk, I don't really know why you're pointing out that Felguard is the 3/5 drop. Perhaps you misread the card maybe? Cultist is the first 3/4 3-drop. Or maybe I just didn't understand what you were trying to say.

There are several 3 drop minions it doesn't beat. Misha, Felguard (edit: Actually, the Felguard doesn't necessarily 'beat' the Cultist, it just has better stats for a 3 drop) and the new Dancing Swords from Naxx are all 3 drops that will defeat the Dark Cultist outright. There's also many that will trade evenly with both cards dying, though assuming the priest has at least one other minion on the field, the trade will favor the priest easily because of the deathrattle.
Still though, saying it beat every other 3 mana minion on it's own is just false.
its a pretty decent card, but because priests generally have a slow early game, it ought to be pretty easy for opponents to play around the deathrattle. a lot of times you may not have another early creature to play, and when you do, its probably not hard for the opponent to kill that creature first and negate. but I suppose even then, a 3/4 for 3 isn't shabby by any means.
the comparison above to sylvanas is interesting. obviously the other comparison is temple enforcer, but weaker as a smaller creature and having its effect as a deathrattle rather than a battlecry. interestingly, like sylvanas we might see plays where you SW your own cultist to buff another creature (though I think the benefits are probably much more niche with doing that to cultist)
in the current environment, this card seems to be maybe the most consistent of the class cards but possibly with less upside than many of the others. I'm not sure what current decks it would fit with or what you'd remove to make room for it. but it does potentially set up some possibilities when combined with the rest of the Naxx cards and we may see some new priest archetypes which ought to be interesting if nothing else.
I think behind the Warrior's new Truesilver Champion, this is the second best class card released for Nax. We'll see if Hunters get some insane annoying beast synergy card...
In the early game, you only need to use it if the enemy is rushing like a fool. Then it's a solid 3/4. Against Zoo, we had to use our Earthen Ring Farseers and Northshire Clerics with Power Word:Shield on them to try to stem the Zoo. Now we can use this guy.
Against slower opponents, we don't need to throw him down on 3 anyway. We have pyromancer and shadow words and such for that.
He can do great things with soulpriest as well.
If you circle of healing bomb while he is on the board, he dies and gives the soulpriest +3 health. That can maybe work, who knows.

I think I watch more Hearthstone than I play. Not sure how I feel about that.
I could see this card in an aggressive priest deck that aims to play sturdy minions and keep them around via healing and health buffing. Like, it'd run Ancient Watchers, Blademasters, Nerubian Eggs (and ways to trigger its deathrattle), Dancing Swords (maybe), Mukla, Dark Cultist, and Earthen Ring Farseer. You could also throw in Undertaker if there are enough deathrattles to buff it. Essentially, you would want super powerful early game minions that have some sort of drawback which would be mostly irrelevant because you are in control of the game. Like, who cares about Dancing Swords' deathrattle if it never has to die.
I also look forward to seeing how well this will synergize with the rest of Naxxramas. With Baron Rivendare being a 4 drop, you could turn 3 this guy and turn 4 Baron for double the effect. Giving 2 minions 3 extra health or 1 minion 6 extra health is insane.
The body is really good. The effect may be hard to use IMO since priest usually has few minions on board. However, just this card alone create and overwhelming pressure on the board., especially with the watcher build. Imagine 4/8 taunt @.@.
Dark Cultist would be an upper tier card even without the effect. With the effect I think it's safe to say that this card gives the Priest a midgame that doesn't require the opponent's cards.

Another Naxxramas class card has been revealed, and this time it's the Dark Cultist, a Priest Minion.
What are your thoughts on this card?

Cool, something else for zoolocks to soulfire as they crush my priest into the ground. Fucking blizzard.
AFAIK, Felguard is actually the first (and only) 3/5 drop on turn 3.
Just for the record.
(Though it sucks to lose a point of mana when playing it)
ERMAGERD OP!

INB4 "is it random" questions. :P
(Yes, it's obviously random.)
