I could totally be wrong on this, but I wanted some opinions on it. Anyone who plays wild knows that Even Shaman is a common deck there, and that it is likely considered on the best decks available there. I think the deck as a whole could use some balancing but in my opinion Thing from Below is the main problem of the deck. To make a small comparison this card in that deck is very similar to a card that was nerfed in the past called Corridor Creeper. The only difference now is that it has taunt, it only works in Shaman and it can be played without the enemy clearing your board in the past. I could be wrong on this, hence why I made this thread. I'd like some opinions on the subject. Anyone else think that Thing from Below offers too much tempo and board protection? Should this be on the hit list for those rare wild nerfs?
I have no real vote on this, because I don't really play wild much anyway, but for sure, logically, if Corridor Creeper was too strong and needed to be toned down, then Thing from Below is unquestionably overpowered. I generally think class cards should be stronger than neutrals in most cases, so I'm not sure it should be changed but I can definitely see how that can swing things quickly in Even Shaman.
Look at it this way. The vast majority of midrange decks in the past have been killed by nerfing cards that give them good enough tempo to stay on top. Yet flat out aggro, control and in some cases OTK/combo are still very much more common than actual midrange decks.
Why is it that we want to push this playstyle out of the game exacty? HS shouldn't just be this bland tug of war between plain aggro and control. Plus, in wild the deck actually punishes decks like Big Priest and Kingsbane (which last I checked players overall complained about more than a single midrange deck).
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Thing from Below because totem shaman (with cards like Wicked Witchdoctor and Primal Fusion) have always been some of my favorites. That being said, the card is pretty good because it provides a huge tempo swing if you can get it for cheap. That being said, I do not think this card is what makes Even Shaman great. Even shaman has just an abundance of cheap, overstatted minions such as Flamewreathed Faceless, Sea Giant, Draenei Totemcarver and the aforementioned Thing from Below and so nerfing thing from below does not solve the issue that they have several other cards they can drop earlier and just shut people out of the game.
The issue I see with Even Shaman is just that it fits well in the meta. The top 6 wild decks imo are odd rogue, Renolock, Evenlock, Reno priest and Big Priest and odd rogue is the only other aggressive deck that can compete against Even shaman. As for the 4 control decks, if they do not draw their removals, they just are not going to win as the only way to truly stop Even shaman is to just nuke the board turn after turn. If big priest tries to throw a big taunt in front, Even shaman can just Devolve and continue to smash face. Against reno and evenlock, the constant pressure even shaman provides makes sure they cannot tap to draw their removal or heal. Reno priest has a good match up against Even shaman simply because it has so much disruption catered for it, but can still easily be shut down earlier. As for odd rogue, this is the only other top deck that can really halt even shaman's explosive first couple of turns. Considering that 4 out of the 5 other best decks in wild have to load up on counters for Even shaman and it still continues to be strong in the meta shows that Thing from Below isn't the main culprit and instead all the overloaded shaman minions.

I don't have something witty about this deck, I just like it because Malygos is fun.
I dont like the Creeper argument, i mean the thing with creeper is that its whe any minions die so it made aggro matchups just about having it, this only counts what the palyer does, i mean creeper would come out in turn 3 for free really often. While even shaman could be looked at i dont think its the problem card in the deck.
Even Shaman isn't all that bad. Sure, it's got some nice synergies but I feasted on it all of last expansion with secret hunter as they need to build up board presence and interact with your face to win. Similarly, any control variant warrior does extremely well due to having access to numerous clears and running the shaman out of steam. I know it's considered top tier, but at least it's not a frustrating deck to play against like Big Priest is or Star Aligner Druid and Millsbane were.
Even Shaman is not a deck I like in particular and thing from below is one of the deck's more powerful cards because of the tempo swing it provides but I genuinely don't think we should go about asking for nerfs for every little card. Especially since the meta is pretty diverse.
At absolute worst the only change I believe would be cool without butchering the card is for its cost to only be reduced by basic totems.

I agree that we should be careful about what we nerf. I am not saying that I'm right in my dislike for the card. I am merely asking for opinions on it. That said I DO think that some cards shouldn't of, but did get forgotten in the shift to wild when they were far over the proper power level. Even if we assume this card is balanced and I'm wrong there are things like Drakonid Operative, Tunnel Trogg, or Voidcaller not to mention the obvious choice with Barnes.
Damn i would liked that dislikebutton here. No really why do people not play wild i don'tget it. Yes if they don't have enough cards i get it. Wild is as important as standart. Why you ask? Well if the wild format is complete shit then the history of hearthstone is gone. All those cards blizzard created are gone and all decks you liked to play are gone. So when you get a card from a pack you can only use it for 1-2 years witch is a short piriod and then all those cards would be useless and have less value. The wild format keeps the value of these cards a little bit.
Even Shaman is neither oppressive enough nor suffers from having very polarized matchups (such as old Quest Rogue) to be considered worthy of the ban-- err, nerf hammer. Sure, it's stronger than its Standard counterpart but being a board-centric deck without very powerful comeback mechanisms it's just as likely to get countered by Control as any comparable archetype. Also, Shaman as a class is already just a one-trick pony - do we really want it to become totally obsolete?
The issue of Shaman in Wild is not Thing from Below, it's that theres first: no counter to Baku/Genn and second Flametongue Totem. While yes, Thing from Below is probably the strongest card in the deck (since a 0 mana card is always insane, see Corridor Creeper); nerfing Flametongue Totem would probably be the card to fix the game. Still: Since Shaman is not so strong in Standard, and a nerf here would nerf Shaman in Standard too, the next card to be considered to be nerfed is Thing from Below, yes. But since the TE said where the issue of Even shaman lies, then i said no, since Flametongue Totem is the first card that needs to be nerfed.

Sorry, but that's BS. Even Shaman has around a 70-72% winrate on hsreplay. It's not as polarizing, but it's oppressive, because it is simply all around good. And it's too good.
Honestly, I think the bigger issue is literally just totem golem, murkspark eel, and whirling zapomatic being some of the most powerful early game minions in the entire game, all fitting into the even archetype, and all synnergizing with the rest of the deck significantly more than other odd/even interactions.
Thing from Below was already broken since the very moment it was released, back in Shamanstone, during WOTOG.
Obviously, the card can only grow increasingly broken, and very fast (just add more even-costed totems). It should have been nerfed back then already, or at the very least, before letting it Rotate out of Standard.
However, I believe Even Shaman would be nearly unaffected by a nerf to TFB now, in terms of meta power (much like Level Up! for Odd paladin). That is because there is another powerhouse in Even Shaman, which is Devolve. Again, broken since inception. That card needs to cost (3).
PS: ofc, Even Shaman is not the only Wild meta offender. Just one of the many decks that abuse broken cards that were never nerfed, while they would have deserved it. ALL of them should be hit at the same time, or we're just replacing a meta tyrant for another one.

Whirling zapomatic isn't run in a single good Even shaman decklist though.

Its nowhere near being a candidate for a nerf. It isn't one of the most oppressive cards in wild, or even in even shaman really

Blizzard don't care about wild(?)
I was in charge!! - Patches the Pirate
buff it to 5 mana? :D, seriously shamman decks that arent even are in actual dire need of help while even shaman might need to be toned down.
Don’t care don’t play wild why would they nerf cards in wild format.
Yes, this card need a nerf just like devolve.

As a wild played I dont see any issues, you can counter even shaman easily.
