Hey guys ! 'i'm happy to say that "Secret Paladin" is back ! give this deck a try ! i've Created this deck myself some days ago and currently i'm Rank 5 with this deck and I'm pretty sure that this deck has enough potential to reach the Legend Rank! hope you guys like this guide and let me know if you're playing with this deck !
With few Skulking Geist, appearing now, it's time for secret pally to shine again. it's a strong deck, for sure.
This deck still has a lot of the powerfull wild cards that made the deck once powerfull. The difference is the addition of cards from Newer expansions, like Sunkeeper Tarim from Un'goro, Righteous Protector from Knights of the Frozen Throne and Call to Arms and Corridor Creeperfrom Kobolds and Catacombs.
Keep in mind that this deck is heavily minion based and even though it has a really strong and sometimes agressive early game , it fits more on a "Midrange" kind of deck, so, you have a lot of early game cards, like "Aggro" decks, but you also have some control kind of cards and late game cards, just like "Control" decks.
So, this deck is balanced and has the best parts of control and aggro decks together, what makes it really good and adaptable to different strategies.
However, since this deck is Midrange, it's not more agressive than true hyper aggro decks(Patches the Pirate says hello!), So, aggro decks usually use 90% of its deck to just 1~ 2 ~3 ~ 4 mana cost minions. And this deck is also not greedier than true control decks, like some priest decks we see around the meta. That's why this deck is midrange.
So, you have to know when it's better to change the curvestone i wrote before to play more defensive cards against aggro, like Sludge Belcher or to trade your minions more than going face, until you can stabilize against an Agrro opponent.
Or, to play more face and agressively against control/greedier decks. However, balance things, don't always go face against control, if they have important targets that you must kill, let's say a: Flamewaker, that can quickly destroy your board if you go all face without thinking about the consequences. So, trade only wisely, you have a lot of early game minions to put pressure against control decks and also a Spellbreaker, to make you get rid of annoying minions like Voidlord when you need to and do not forget the board clears, watch out for this.
Tech choices:
1 - Agressive Tech - (Against Control) : This Tech makes your deck more "Aggro like" and less "control", cutting the Later Dr's .7 ,8 and 10. Use this tech if you want even more early power but you'll have weaker late game.
2 - Value Tech - (better against late game control greed decks): This tech is greedier and boosts your late game power with high value cards, but weakens your early game.
-There is always 4 types of cards you will want in general against any type of deck or classes:
TOP 4 Priorities:
1- You will always want to keep one or try to find one "Dr 1" Righteous Protector, especially against faster aggro decks, because she Is your main defense against them early on, and trades really well . Also, survives pretty well against control because of the divine shield too, while you "Smorc" them in the face.
2- Next, try to find "Dr. 0" Corridor Creeper, do i need to explain anything about this card ? this card is a impressive "mana cheat" sometimes a zero mana 5/5 that goes early on to the board and can continue to smorc your enemy even after a board clear.
3- Next, try to find a Call to Arms, why? Because Call to arms helps you to cycle your deck pretty well, since it pulls 3 low cost minions on the board. so, -3 weak minions to draw, while you create a strong board presence that your enemy must deal with.
4- Honestly, i wish this was the first option to find in this deck, But I need to be realistic. "Dr 6": Mysterious Challenger is the greedy option of the "must keeps" on the mulligan, particularly against aggro. But do not ignore him, he is the best "draw" of your deck, just like call to arms, because it also helps you to cycle out your deck to find the answers you need faster. Since it can put into play from your deck to the board, up to 4 secrets. So, -4 cards to draw now is really important.
Specific Matchups Guide:
*Priest:
-BigPriest/Resurrect Priest: Usually, is a easy win, however, if they highroll Barnes on T4 or T3, will be harder, for that reason, sometimes is safe to mulligan for a Spellbreaker against priest. So, when the minion from barnes dies, which is usually a taunt, like : Obsidian Statue or The Lich King, the priest will probably resurrect that minion again. So, when that minion from Barnes is resurrected, you can use spellbreaker to silence it and continue smorcing the enemy face normaly. (PS: do not silence the 1/1 minion from barnes ! it will get stronger with full stats, only the card text will be silenced in this case.) Also, Sunkeeper Tarim can also help a lot this match, in the case you do not have spellbreaker.
-Reno/Raza/Highlander Priest: Well, this is the best deck of the game, as you can expect, is not a easy matchup. We do have positive winrate against this deck when we have a agressive start, So, mulligan always for Call to Arms and early drops that can have higher attack, like Secretkeeper + secret, Shielded Minibot, Corridor Creeper and SMORC them !!! the faster you could, the better !!! I can also say that Loatheb can deny strong clears priest have, and they have a lot of clears, watch out for Psychic Scream on turn 7, watch out for a possible Lightbomb on T6, watch out for Holy Nova and maybe Excavated Evil on T5, watch out for Auchenai Soulpriest + Circle of Healing and Shadow Word: Horror on T4. That's why i said you must attack priest faster, they just have insane cards that you can't deal at all in the late game.
-Other Priest decks: see the general matchup guide above.
*Warlock:
Cubelock: This is a scary deck to fight against, kind a lot of times, i was able to smorc a lot of them out and defeat them fast. But, just like bigpriest, there is a highroll factor with this deck, And wild is a savage mode where everything can happen, so, if they summon strong demons on T4, T5 because of Voidcaller or Possessed Lackey, maybe even because of a Skull of the Man'ari, the matchup will be way harder, if they do summon demons likeMal'Ganis or Voidlord or Doomguard, kill them as fast as possible ! Because, if they use a Carnivorous Cube or a Faceless Manipulator on any of this cards, is game over 90% of the time. So, you might want a Spellbreaker to deny this crazy mana cheat that warlock can do. However, only destroy those demons if you do not have lethal. You should be winning and destroying the warlock face at this point, but if you're sure that you will have lethal next turn, go ahead, Smorc'em !
So, saw a warlock at high ranks? It will probably be a cubelock, so search for your Spellbreaker to ensure a safe win condition, since you can use him to silence a Voidcaller, Possessed Lackey, Mal'Ganis, Voidlord or a Carnivorous Cubeor any other taunt in the way. Besides spellbreaker, you will want any other agressive or early cards, to smorc the warlock and Corridor Creeper andCall to Arms just like against a Reno Priest.
-Zoolock: see the agressive decks in general section bellow.
-Other warlock decks: see the general matchup guide above.
*Agressive decks in general (Mostly Paladin/Druid/Warrior/Hunter/Rogue):
-Aggro Paladin/Murloc Paladin/Token Druid/Pirate Warrior/Any other Aggro deck: Mulligan Always for Dr. 1 Righteous Protector, also mulligan for other 1 or 2 drops. After this, keep one or try to find one Call to Arms or Corridor Creeper.
*Any Mage/Shaman Decks or Other Paladin/Druid/Warrior/Hunter/Rogue Decks: see the general matchup guide above.
Have fun, hope you liked the guide and let me know if you're playing with this deck !
secret paladidn is back... until someone drops Skulking Geist
Well, even if they do this, will be a huge tempo loss, this deck is kinda fast, if they drop the geist, they'll risk to die against my board. This deck is Midrange, but has a lot of the early power some other aggro pally decks have.
Nope. But nobody clicks "look at my secret paladin deck". At least standard players wouldn't.
Skulking Geist is hardly a real counter IMHO, simply because a Secret Paladin curving out will 50% of the time drop his Challenger anyway. Don't really know, if teching Geists would have that big of an impact. Without secrets, this deck becomes a thinned out solid curvestone midrange paladin.

Yes ! this is right, is like midrange, but the mysterious challenger can win matches by his own! Also, this thread was made on wild forum, so, i guess there is no problem here.
And answering the first guy...
was never gone... of the wild Casual mode.
From ranks 20 to 5 on wild i did not see any secret pally, so yeah, from Ranked play was kinda gone.

Ps. Nice deck. Can you tell us why you are only running 1 Secretkeeper?

Standard only players have always had the assumption that secret pally was always all over the ladder in wild. I played Wild for months and can count on one hand the amount of times I saw secret pally. So congrats on experimenting with an old architect, and doing something that people complain no one is doing.

Well, was still gone because i haven't seen any =P but maybe it can come back when people realize it's still good? xD ? i mean, to reach rank 5 it must at least be competitive, right ?
I had 2x secretkeeper and 1x hydrologyst on the deck before, but i've swaped -1 secretkeeper and -1x hydrologist to put 2x Righteous Protector on the deck to fight better against aggro decks.
i know, It's sad to take one secretkeeper of the deck, because we have a secret deck here , But we still have one secreetkeeper and 3 one drops works ok in the deck, there was no other card i could cut to make room for righteous protector. every other card has a purpose on the deck, if i cut one of the Dr's 7,8 or 10, it would make my deck more like aggro, but i want this deck to have late game cards too to fight better against some other kind of decks. Hydrologist was good too, but... often ended up just like a 2/2 body when was taken by "call to arms" card. While Dr 1, righteous protector do her job to protect the deck pretty well.

secretkeeper is so much better than hydrologist. the fact that a 1-drop can win you the game if they cant deal with it is just disgusting.
BigPriest/Resurrect Priest: Usually, is a easy win, however, if they highroll Barnes on T4 or T3, will be harder, for that reason, sometimes is safe to mulligan for a Spellbreaker against priest, Sunkeeper Tarim can also help a lot if they summon something early on.
I'm not trying to pick on you or to nitpick, but how is Spellbreaker useful against T4 Barnes in Big Priest? It just makes their 1/1 big, and it doesn't stop it from being resurrected.

Ops, you're right, xD , i wrote it the wrong way, i'll correct it. i mean, after the priest resurrect the minion, that's usually a taunt like Obsidian Statue, then, the spellbreaker will deny the taunt or the card effect

The Curvestone that makes this deck really good:
Turn 1: Secretkeeper or this same card + coin + any secret or Righteous Protector.
T2: Haunted Creeper, Shielded Minibot or Knife Juggler.
T3: Muster for Battle, better after a knife juggler on T2.
T4: Call to Arms and Piloted Shredder.
T5: Loatheb this card is gold ! It's Really insane on Turn 5, helps so much to keep your board safe, denying spells and enemy board clear.
T6: Mysterious Challenger (You'll always want this on turn 6, maybe even coin + this on turn 5, is very strong).
T7: Dr. Boom.
T8: Tirion Fordring.
T9: Any more sticky deathrattle minions and secrets that keeps your board safe.
T10: N'Zoth, the Corruptor If you summoned some deathrattle's minions earlier.
