I know it's a long shot, but does anybody know which cards will rotate out of standard of the classic set? Maybe you've read something somewhere no-one else did? :)
Has there been any info given which cards might rotate out?
Gadgetzan Auctioneer was actually supposed to get rotated last year for being a staple in Rogue, but then the developers decided against it. It jumped to Druid in Un'Goro, but now it's not that popular anymore. I don't know, maybe they don't feel like kicking him anymore, but my personal guess is he won't stay in Classic.
Another card that was mentioned by Ben Brode is Alexstrasza. Again, not that popular right now, but if they feel that the card is too good for an evergreen, it might be in there as well. At one point, Dean Ayala also said he doesn't like Malygos. So that's another candidate. I'm pretty sure that Ice Block was somewhat confirmed as well.
Generally, they said they don't want to use HoF too much, because... reasons. I guess they prefer nerfs after all. But I think most of these cards will get sacked. And I guess Leeroy Jenkins is likely to get hit as well.
However, based on previous choices and statements from developers, pretty much any good card from the classic Set qualifies. Just take statements like Ben Brode's "10 would be the ideal number for classic/basic cards in a deck" and then look at all the cards you still use today. Mana Wyrm, Eviscerate, Flame Imp, Nourish, Equality, Divine Favor, Unleash the Hounds, Savannah Highmane, Brawl, Doomguard,... the list goes on. So I think there is a decent chance that a few of these will also be on the list.
Keep in mind though that there are gonna be a few nerfs coming February. So maybe some of these cards just get nerfed instead of rotated.
Why do You think, that Malygos will rotate? He is played in (probably) only one deck (which isn't even a top tier)
Because Malygos limits design space. Even though he isn't really seen in this meta, his effect does limit the kind of cards they can print as he can break decent early game spells.
It's a tough one; I guess Blizzard somehow wants us to consume more expansions by lowering the viability of Classic cards so i guess that any non-essential staples might get a chance. Essential mechanic cards such as Eaglehorn Bow seems too precious to go but Savannah Highmane could leave, the same applies to SI:7 Agent (too precious) and Eviscerate (non-essential staple). I hope they dont HoF that many cards because that would affect F2P players disproportionately.

Of course, the official reason is going to be "design space". But for me, the "design space" argument is really just BS at this point.
In theory of course, if a card has a huge potential for making new cards way too strong, it limits design space. But in practice, a combo like Raza+Anduin should have never existed. You'd think Raza limits design space when you want to give Priest stronger hero powers. But apparently it's absolutely fine to give the same class a hero power that abuses the hell out of the 0 cost and sets up an absolutely unstoppable combo. And all you need to do is play two cards in 8 turns and build the deck to meet Raza's condition.
The whole "we don't like one turn kills" that the developers lament so frequently about when it comes to Malygos and "uninteractive combos" is just plain stupid and nonsensical, ridiculed by the very design of cards like Shadowreaper Anduin and Open the Waygate. The only difference between the mage quest and any other OTK-Deck like the old Raging Worgen -Combo in Warrior (that was destroyed forever) is that you flat out tell your opponent at the start "I'll try to set up a combo to kill you in one turn, so better kill me fast". Any Malygos-Combo, or any old style OTK-combo really, requires a lot of draw, a lot of defense and a good amount of luck. You don't lose "suddenly", you lose when you failed to beat your opponent in 10-15 turns, when most aggressive decks don't even need 6.
Even IF they ever make powerful cheap spells (most new spells cannot even target heroes at all like Lesser Jasper Spellstone) it's unlikely that Malygos will be all too problematic due to its mana cost and massive setup. Right now there is a combo with Twig of the World Tree and Ixlid, Fungal Lord, but it's so impractical it's not having any impact on the metagame.
It's the root of all evil regarding any kind of Exodia mage deck, not to mention there is not a single mage deck not including it, and besides that, Sorcerer's Apprentice also considerably limits the development of new mechanics in the future (for example, try to imagine "something" that, when in play, considers the Mage's Hero Power as a Spell so it could synergize with everything... well, Sorcerer's Apprentice wouldn't allow that for obvious reasons).
However, personally speaking, I wouldn't move Sorcerer's Apprentice to the Hall of Fame, as it would be only like moving the problem away to the Wild game-mode. Instead, I would change it to something like: "The first spell you cast each turn costs (2) less", after all it's a cheap common basic card, nothing more.
And what it's more, do you remember the always pleasant Pint-Sized Summoner? Despite being also a basic card, but with a Rare quality, it currently sees no use. Why not interchanging the effects of both young gnome girls? (See attached files)
I do not get the people saying Bloodmage Thalnos. It isn't included every deck, its effect isn't better than even basic cards, it is just mana efficient. I honestly wish they would make more cards like this and fewer cards like Temporus. Is there more than P2W sour grapes here?
Leeroy Jenkins - not likely. With all the taunt around he is easily handled. Besides Fireball and Eviscerate, and SKill Command do similar damage and are harder to protect against. You get down to 10 or so and your goose is likely cooked. Just not seeing the design space limitation, or seeing Leeroy much in this meta for that matter.
Malygos This could happen. With all the cheap spells and spell cost reduction floating around, there is likely a big poster of this chick in the meeting room at Blizz where the discuss new cards. She may be one of the reasons we can't have nice things.
I hope they dont HoF that many cards because that would affect F2P players disproportionately.
Actually, I as a f2p player, am hoping they do, cuz this would mean i get a lot of 'free' cards. (I've been saving 10k dust for a while, just to be able to make everything golden that would roate out)

They stated they would rotate out cards that are being used at a frequent bases / auto include. Bloodmage Thalnos and Leeroy Jenkins are both cards that are being used frequently. Also Leeroy Jenkins enables some insta-kill options out of nowhere, which they also claim to hate. But hey Matrix801, maybe thats just a wrong view I have. Although I remember people saying the same about ragnaros, the firelord and Sylvanas Windrunner
I recall last year they mentioned unnerfing Molten Giant and sending it to the Hall of Fame. I hope they do the same with Fiery War Axe. Nerfing it hurt the entirety of Warrior when it was already in a bad spot.

I seriously doubt this is going to happen. They merely aknowledged the request from the community to have the overnerfed cards just go to HoF unnerfed (some also wanted Blade Flurry ). They said they "maybe" could do this 2018, but never really confirmed it. And just a few months ago, Ben Brode said he's not so sure about that, because when they make better cards for a Control/Handlock deck, it could end up being too good with Molten Giant in Wild.
As usual, the reasoning is quite silly and super inconsistent, but with Cubelock being so strong in both Standard and Wild, they probably found a reason to drop that idea.
As for the Axe, they've only rotated Classic cards so far, whereas Basics were just nerfed. I think they don't care that King's Defender is a straight up better version of the Axe in Wild and leave it like that. Sure it hurts Warrior massively, but so does Innervate for Druid.
I still have hope that they ressurect my beloved Warsong Commander and send it in wild. I don't play standart anymore anyway, but i loved patron warrior so much, best designed deck of all time for sure

I understand what you are saying. With all the OTK combo decks around it is kinda strange they nerfed the hell out of this one, but printed cards like Anduin with Raza being around ....
I dont know how far upfront the hall of fame cards were announced and im a bit too lazy too lok it up (if someone else knows it plz do share), but what if ... the february anouncement will contain all the cards that will shift into the hall of fame?
Any thoughts?
I would, personally be more than happy to finally spend all my dust I've been saving since KoT ....
I would LOVE for Molten Giant to be unnerfed and moved to HOF, as it was one of the most interresting cards in the game!
Otherwise, I would prefer nerfs in the upcoming patch to HOFing, and I do NOT like Ice Block to be HOFed, as it is far from an auto-include, rarely used in any deck caring about their board.
I think Shadowstep should be. It was why Quest Rogue was so unfun to play against, and there are so many complaints about Shadowstep Keleseth deciding games on the first or second turn.

I personally think Ice Block is an auto include in control decks (and sometimes even non control - see some burn mage decks) and it really non-fun to play against. Just like Draco mentionend: the fact that they have ice block + so many stall effects is ... just annoying and non-interactive in my eyes.
Reading all the posts and reasons why some cards should/could move to the hall of fame makes me wonder ... It seems like there are too many OP or broken or unfun or ... cards that have a certain reason that could be justified to rotate out, the more i come to realise this the more i wonder of blizzard shouldnt implement the rotation system that Kibler has mentionend a few times. (cards really rotate, as in: now maybe rag and sylv and ... have been rotated out, but now some other cards rotate out and some/all of the previous ones can get back in standard; Making it more dynamic and less 'cripling' to remove all/some cards - Kibler also mentioned that this rotation system wouldnt be 'restricted' to only the classic set and cards from like nax (YES IT IS OUT!) or other wild sets could rotate back in for a year)

I hope they are some Legendaries or Epics so that i can earn some dust by disenchanting them when they go to hof + I get full dust refund as well.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
Just like Doomsayer btw (staple in most control decks)
But hey Matrix801, maybe thats just a wrong view I have.
