I'm always trying to improve in the arena, so I decided to create this topic as a way to receive tips and advice from more experienced players. I hope others who are still trying to improve also use this topic.
The proposal is simple: post the replay of a game that you lost so that more experienced players analyze your plays and tell you when the game was decided, your mistakes, or what you could have done differently. For those who do not know, in order to save the replays, it is necessary to have the deck tracker installed on your computer.
Once installed, just open it and as you play, your matches will be saved. Click on any of them and you will be redirected to the replay page. You will then have the game link and you can post it on this topic.
If possible, also post your draft for review. We often make mistakes in the draft and that is crucial. I still do not know if I make good drafts most of the time, even making use of Heartharena. I recommend less experienced players install Heartharena, because in addition to saving their drafts, it helps you choose higher-value cards and points out some synergies.
So where did I go wrong?Which card should I get in the draft but did not? What mistakes I made that were crucial to my losses?I would love to see the opinion of people more experienced and better than me.How can I improve?
Thanks in advance for your help! And I ask other players to share their losses and drafts, sometimes our mistakes are the same as others do.I think this topic can help a lot of players!
Even the best players make mistakes, so it is a nice post where we can examine our plays. And if you want my credentials, I have been playing since open beta and have almost 6000 arena wins (see the uploaded image). While that doesn't automatically mean I am a good player, I atleast have some perspective.
And now for your games and draft.
DRAFT:
Honestly the draft itself is solid. While I would probably draft a bit differently, there are arguments to be made to choose any two of the possible cards for a lot of picks. There are 2 picks that really stand out for me.
Pick 1: Not that huge of a deal, but I would personaly take the Sunwalker over the spellstone. While the stone is nice, even if you don't have allot of armor gain, I prefer picking it (if I have the choice ofcourse) in the late stages of drafting where I know more clearly what my deck is like, and pick a solid drop like the walker more early
Pick 15:Dark Iron Dwarf is a good card, but I'd pick a Stoneskin Basilisk over it almost any day. It's just way too good of a card. Not only is it dangerous, your opponent is sometimes forced to make some really awkward plays.
GAMES:
Game 1 (rogue): This a classic case of losing a match because the opponent got quite lucky with the topdecks and answers. You could say that the match could go differently if you'd coin and then buff the chemist at the start, but such speculations are pointless since you don't know your opponent's hand.
Game 2 (hunter): Buffing the beetle on turn 4 with the cleric. I can understand wanting to play around the Explosive Trap, but you need to keep a few things in mind. First is the fact that Freezing Trap and Wandering Monster (and I am talking about secrets in general) are way more popular and common, not to mention allot of times more useful than the explosive one.
Second is the fact that even if that was an Explosive Trap you would still be at a disadvantage. You would be left with a 5/1 beetle (since your cleric would be killed) on the board, whereas if you just attacked with the beetle and it would be either a freezing or explosive trap or the monster, and the beetle died, you could then play your Kobold Monk and have a 3/6 on the board (which you could then buff with the cleric).
On turn 6 I would have played the Steel Rager plus hero power. A pretty popular hunter secret is also Venomstrike Trap, and with the rager plus hero power, you would kill the Stegodon, then trade the cleric with the snake, and go for the shark with the druid. Obviously as we saw, it was a freezing, but you would get to attack with your hero and gain 1 armor if you played the rager.
And unfortunately I am running a bit late, so I can't analyze your third match. I can do that tomorow, and I hope whatever I did wrote, helped you in any way :).
I don't play enough arena to comment on the draft, so I'm not gonna do that part.
Game 1: Honestly, you played it fine. Seems like you mostly got unlucky, which happens
Game 2: Couple of things:
I agree with @Acoander and think sacrificing the Plated Beetle on turn 4 and playing the Kobold Monk would have been better.
On turn 6 if you wanted to play around Freezing Trap you should probably have attacked with the Shattered Sun Cleric before the Argent Commander. That would have left you with a 4/2 on the board. Or you could have done what @Acoander suggested to play around Venomstrike Trap. I don't know enough about appearance rates to know which secret is better to play around.
On turn 9 you could have traded the Steel Rager into Huffer (or the Cave Hydra I guess) and played the Omega Defender to keep yourself alive but honestly probly doesn't matter since you were unlikely to recover (but you never know, things can happen).
Game 3 links to the Hunter match, so I can't comment on it.
Your draft seems fine, only #15 is likely a mistake, the rest is more or less preference.
#15 Stoneskin Basilisk
#21 Gastropod
#24 Dragonslayer
#27 Sunborn Valkyr
would have been my picks.
Game 1:
t2: I would have gone face with the Shard, if he daggers on t3 that's fine for you in terms of tempo and you have Mark of the Wild to get a good trade.
t3: Would've used Coin for the hero power here. you have a t4, t5, t6 play lined up so there's no need to save the Coin.
t7: Would have picked UI here, not knowing that my opponent has the optimal answer for Stormwind Champion. Starfall isn't great here as it only kills a three drop in your situation and you're still behind on board after playing it.
Game 2:
t4: Kobold Monk and pass. You do not need to trigger Hunter secrets immediately, just wait until the board state is more favorable for you and build up a board. That's why most Hunter secrets tend to be bad at high wins since people know how to play around them.
t6: As others have pointed out, you should have attacked with the Sun Cleric first. It's hard to recover from losing 4 mana in terms of tempo, especially vs Hunter.
it went 9-3 that is a great run. any solid deck i expect it to get to 6-8 wins more at the end of the day is how lucky where you during the games.
i had decks that were quite solid finishing 6-3 while for example i had a mediocre shaman deck ( i would have give him maximum 4 wins) that won 12-0 as no one was playing around mc techs and i had 2 and it always high rolled them.

Got it.So it's usually best to secure the highest-value cards early in the draft, correct?Lesser Jasper Spellstone, although a good card, serves more as a complement to the deck.Am I right?
I remember that I chose Lesser Jasper Spellstone only to have something to play on the first turn or to have a removal in the later turns of the games. But that kind of pick really should be done at the end of the draft.
Stoneskin Basilisk really is very good, but I remember choosing Dark Iron Dwarf because I had no 4-drop at that point. It seems that I followed too much what Heartharena indicated to me haha.

Well, I rewatched the game, it looks like the Abomination top deck decided the course of the game, haha.FeelsBadMan :(

I think I made this mistake by not facing many hunters in the arena and the few I faced were very aggressive. So I thought at that moment that the secret was Explosive Trap. But I understood your comment: even if I was right, I would have a very weak body on the board.Candleshot would be enough to kill the Beetle afterwards. Checking the secret with the Plated Beetle and play Kobold Monk would have been much better. Thanks for the comments!

I fixed the link for the third defeat xD
I agree with you, my 6th turn against that hunter was very, very bad. From that point on I practically ran out of recovery options.Thank you for your help!

I totally agree.Especially with the turn 3 play! Coin plus hero power would leave me with a 3/4 taunt on the board. The turn 7 play was kind of desperate of me, hahaha.
Thank you so much for clarifying this.I really can see how the match could have taken another route if I had not spared Coin.
Hello, guys! Well, first of all I'd like to apologize for resurrecting this thread after 4 months. During that time I didn't play Hearthstone so much and when I played it was constructed. Admins, feel free to lock this thread if I'm doing something wrong, but I prefer to post here than open a new thread.
Recently I great improved my average win rate (so far this month my average is 6.1). Well, I intend to become a infinite arena player and any way to improve at it will be welcome. Recently, I managed to reach 7-3 with warrior which is in a realy bad spot right now. I would love to see some feedback from better players on what I could do better in these matches, no only on the gameplay but on the mulligan as well. Unfortunately, my Heartharena app is messed up so I can't show how the draft was, but here is the deck:
