So, I've been putting some time on ladder this month for the first time in a long while and I just got to Rank 10 at mid-point. I want to push for Rank 5 before the end of the month (maybe higher) but I'm really tired of playing Control Priest (It took me A LOT of games to do the 15 to 10 jump)
The meta is OBV Hunter and Paladin and those decks bore me. What should I play and what are your success so far?
Is Mecha'thun Miracle worth the craft? I play Toggwaggle but it's slower and I don't own Mecha'thun, so I would need to buy a bunch of packs.
Also, is Odd Rogue still viable without Van Cleef?
I could always carry on with Priest that I run at a 60% clip, but I also wanted to play other classes since I have my golden icon with Priest and not the others.
Anyway, let's discuss. D'you have deck list that fares well against Hunter - Pally that is not the Quest Warrior?
If you want to play faster matches mechathun isn't really what you want to aim for.
Odd Rogue is viable without Van Cleef for sure. A lot of pros consider him too slow if there is nothing to combo with. Usually you want to combo with vilespine. But you instalose against Odd Warrior which is considered Mid Tier 2 and can ruin your day pretty often. Odd Paladin is also a pretty bad matchup.
I would try Even Shaman or Even Warlock. Both have a good chance against aggressive decks and enough substain to beat control decks.
Control priest is a very good option but if you are bored of it, I'd try cube warlock or cube hunter, those are working for me. I don't think even warlock is that good in the current meta.
Play even paladin. It's the least polarized deck in the meta atm, takes some skill but can be very effective. Took me to rk 5 in no time and I still keep on playing because it's so much fun.
Even lock is only tier 2 and loses hard versus hunters, which you'll meet veeery often on your road to rank 5. Even paladin on the other hand mostly beats them and the games are mostly over before turn 5.

Control Priest is really great, it's my GO TO when everything else fails. But with well over 650 wins with Priest, I wanted to up the other heroes :)
Finally, I've reached Rank 5 for the first in my HS play (a year and a half). I don't have much time usually to put but this month I've put in the grind. From 17 to 5 within the first 20 days (135 or so games) and it was fun. Mostly Priest, but did the last push with a Tempo Rogue riding Myra and some pirates.
I use the opportunity to ask is anyone willing to assist me a little bit in reaching rank 5? I reach rank 5 every month, but the last and this one are quite troublesome. A lack of free time is the main reason and this post-nerf meta doesn't suit me well. A real chore. Not enough experience to play around all those secrets, hyena bursts and such... Recently I play mostly fun decks in causal or wIld format (fun decks = either obscure or high skill cap decks too slow for ladder). Regarding standard decks, I have a bunch of them: aggro, midrange, control, combo. Another problem is choosing tech cards.

On my hand, the Control Priest I run don't use any tech cards.
As for assist, it's time really and finding a decklist with which you can win over 55% of your games. Eventually, streak will get you there. I made a jump from 9 to 6 within an hour and half and then pushed through 5 on the same day.
The more you play, the more you will mulligan accordlingly to the meta.
I just found this out woah lol a lil late. I'm on phone so cant link anything but if you wanna check my deck on my climb, check my newest thread.
I hit too hit rank 5 for the first time about a week ago with Mecha'thun Warlock and I got to rank 3 5 stars as my record but I stopped climbing cause I'm getting tilted more and more. For example I climbed from rank 20 to rank 5 in 2 or 3 days. Climbed to rank 5 to rank 3 in 1 day. But then I was stuck a whole day on rank 3, didn't go to rank 4 or 2, just 3. Then I got deranked to almost rank 5 but I climbed back to rank 3 and currently at rank 3 0 stars.
Mecha'thun Warlock is in my opinion the best Mecha'thun deck to climb with. There are 2 different versions to it - the fast drawing one and the more controllish type. I used the fast drawing one aka pro player Dogs version to hit rank 5 (just search dog mechathun rank 1 legend on hearthpwn or google) but the deck felt losing too much to aggro so I switched to a version that has corpsetakers and stuff and aggro matchups improved a lot.
My friend hit legend with the exact deck that's in my thread but the deck has a few problems and notes to take:
1. You have little to no chance against priest. You need the godliest draws in the world to be able to best priests. Voidlords and skull are dead cards but sometimes you have to play them to not die but then psychic scream loses you the game.
2. Knowing when to take risks. Sometimes you HAVE to play Soularium early and pray for rng you don't mill combo pieces and get a Defile or something you need to survive and even if you mill a Galvanizer it is not end of the world depending what deck you are facing
3. WATCH OUT FOR VOIDLORDS, SKULL AND DEATH KNIGHT. You could get yourself into a situation where you fatique 5 turns in a row cause you can't kill off your Voidlords fast enough.
4. The deck is difficult to play and the moment you make a mistake, you lose. Do you tap or no tap? If you tap you might die next turn but that tap might save you the game next turn. It is not bread and butter on what cards to keep in mulligan, for example mage. You might consider it a 50/50 to keep defile against a mage.
Just some info if you are considering about trying Mecha'thun Warlock. The deck is one of the fairest combo decks out there. You have no other bs combo but Skull+Voidlord turn 5. You have no cheese combos like priest killing you turn 9 from full health so you will get frustrated. Fun deck to play nonetheless and it rewards you for playing well. There are some really wacky plays you can make.

I mean even paladin fares well against hunter and odd paladin. Even shaman is pretty good too.
Odd rogue without Edwin Vancleef works, but it's inherently extremely unfavored against odd paladin.
If you want to play faster matches mechathun isn't really what you want to aim for.

Always expect the unexpectable!
Yeah, Even Warlock looks like a good fit for me. A bit of control, a bit of midranger and Gul'Dan just in case things don't go according to plan.
I was worried of some matchups (like Deathrattle Hunter) but even with Priest it's a coin toss versus these decks.
Is there a better build to Even Warlock? They all look pretty much the same but should I tech against something or just go tempo?

That's arguably the strongest right now with a peak at Rank 7 in Legend by strikeright
You can try it as it is or replace some tech cards like Skulking for Black Knight if you want. Wish you the best of luck on ladder. ;)

I've faced a bunch in the R5-legend gap and it seems to fare well, but I'm not sure if it's worth the craft
Yeah, but odd rogue is not as good as it used to be unfortunately
If hunter, priest, paladin and quest warrior bore you, I'd suggest even shaman, I think it's the best deck of the remaining ones.
That being said, I'm going to take this as an opportunity to plug my deck:
I encourage you to check the writeup if the deck sparks your interest
I've been doing well with it in the R5 to legend climb so far and I think it's quite fun to play.
Even paladin is flexible and pretty good against most things (obviously warrior can rain in your parade).
Yeah, if you want to specifically counter Warrior or Druids use Deathrattle Hunter. But it loses hard against hyper aggressive decks like Odd Paladin.
Always expect the unexpectable!

Love your list, looks fun. Might give it a spin.
Thanks for the inputs.

Miracle Rogue with Zil i've had a lot of success here.
Thanks! Let me know how it goes if you end up trying it :)

I feel like the 5 to 1 grind is even longer...
I wouldn’t craft anything if I were you, just keep playing control priest until the rotation.
Dead but dreaming
That's the plan. I may craft Mechatun if I have enough dust by then, but otherwise I have plenty of options with the cards I have.
Congrats!
