As we all know every time when new hearthstone year begin, 3 sets will be rotated out at the same time, this leads to situation where card pool is smaller in the beginning of the year and grows each time new expansion hits.
When standard format was released there were adventures and full expansions mixed so this kind of system made sense. However, now we are only getting expansions with same amount of cards so I don't see any reason why not change standard system to be "one set in, one set out". Each time new expansion is released, the oldest set is rotated to wild. I can see only advantages in system like this:
Card pool is always same size, it is quite stupid that now in the beginning of the year we have less cards than in the end of the year.
Each set would stay in standard same amount of time, now last expansion of the year is available roughly 8 month less than first expansion of the year, this is stupid and also unfair for players, we spend same price for each pack no matter how long time cards are available for standard format.
Blizzard is so eager to keep standard meta fresh, what would be better than rotation every 4 month instead of once a year.
I am sure I am not the first one thinking of this but with quick search I did not find any posts from blizzard considering this topic.
What is your thoughts of this? I simply cannot see reason why not to change rotation system when next expansion is released.
More than anything I want standard with mixed up expansions (AND OPEN THOSE WILD PACKS FOR GOLD NOT MONEY)
Totally agree! And re-enable old expacs for gold too for my accounts that don't have them.
I do think 1 in and 1 out would be interesting though. We get a big meta change on rotation sure, but much less of one for the other expac releases. If 1 when out each time a new one was released it would make more difference I think. Also would mean you'd get to use any cards you craft for 2 years even if it was from the last set of the year.
One set in one set out would actually punish f2p players because you have even less time to get specific cards/decks crafted and the dust you do use matters even less because it has less of a shelf life (at least in terms of the earlier sets released).

No, this would not be the case as currently only the first set of the year stays for a full 2 years. The other 2 sets stay for only 20 months and 16 months. If all sets were changed to 24 months in standard you would get a little more time on cards in 2 out of 3 sets.
I agree, and it has made it possible for new players to be competitive. I am actually looking forward to Un'goro rotating, the first expansion I bought. I only had limited gold/money for it and didnt really get all the cards I wanted from the set.
I've suggested this idea since the onset of the rotation system. It's also an insult to the expansions that get rotated after only approx. 16 months vs. the expansions that get two full years (although I guess that's probably for the best with Mean Streets and Kobolds given their respective power levels).
I would much prefer they rotate the oldest set once it hits the 2 years (or perhaps 18 months but that could get confusing) released mark. The metas would obviously shift far more often and solve at least some of the staleness that we see.
the issue with this format that it wont shake the meta as much as the current format, which is the main reason for doing it and also to keep f2p players in check, that system will punish these players.
I agree with the original post. There’s plenty of reasons for the meta being stale but this was the main one of them. I took months off before this new release because of the stale meta due to the lack of cards creating just a few boring decks that didn’t change for months. Granted this only happens the first rotation, since you can see how good the meta is right now with new decks each day since a added expansion. There’s plenty of time for f2p, that doesn’t hurt them at all, system should change for sure
The problem with that kind of format is that you need to invest a lot of money to stay competitive and that makes it so only old players and huge whales can enjoy the game on a decent level. Look at Shadowverse, it has that exact format you're talking about and I can never play more than 1 or 2 decks, I don't play a lot of it but every new expansion a lot of cool decks pop-out but you need quite some cards from expansions that are about to rotate so you lose the opportunity to enjoy those, or well you could but it's not good business unless you're dropping money into the game and there's also the fact that shadowverse gives a lot of packs for free so it would be harder in HS.
Magic The Gathering release 3 expansion with new mechanics, in that game the rotation of 3 expansion in a row make sense, in HS each expansion is a complete and independent set, the rotation should be one expansion alone, don't make any sense some expansions have 2 full years for be used and other have much less time.

Don't drink and draw.
Good idea, doesnt work (haha)

The goal of all life is death.

The current system is fine

I tend to think go 1 further and put the 1 set in and 1 set out at different times. That way the meta is changed the most number of times.

If you are in your first year of playing please read this post.
Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.
