Went from rank 3 to rank 1, 4 stars with Deathrattle Rogue a few days ago but took a hit and got back to rank 2 (faced a lot of Odd Rogues suddenly). Played a variety of decks back to rank 1. Need to think about what deck to make the last climb with; Odd Warrior looks tempting if I see my match-up spread. Or I might go for Secret Hunter, hoping to get it done by this weekend ;).
And did it :). I actually wanted to start this friday evening of with a few fun games so I picked Deathrattle Rogue again and I unexpectedly got the needed wins in to Legend :).
Time for some more fun decks at Legend. Good luck to all climbing!
It's crazy how things shift from one day to the next. Right after I wrote my last post I got steamrolled by an avalanche of smorc, ended up almost at 5 no stars... The good news: DeathRecruit Hunter is back in business, doing what it does best; making ZooLocks cry (currently Rank 3).
Is the Oakheart combo needed for Taunt Druid to reach Legend?
EDIT: Stuck at rank 4 for over a week now; been trying Omega Defender instead of Ironwood Golem. Stronger as minion played from hand (12/6), and doesn't need armor to attack.
Is the Oakheart combo needed for Taunt Druid to reach Legend?
As a rule, no one card is "necessary", because by definition a Tier-1 deck is one with multiple win conditions and a lot of flexibility. However, you are shooting yourself in the foot if you are not playing the best version of any deck.
It's simple math: Say that Oakheart (especially when drawn early and with a lot of ramp) increases the deck's win rate from (hypothetical numbers) 60 (still a very good deck) to 65%. You can still hit Legend with a deck that has 60% win rate, technically you can hit Legend with any deck with over 51% win rate, the question is how many games it will take you.
With a 55% win rate deck every 100 games you win 55 stars and lose 45 stars, netting you 10 stars, meaning you need about 260 games to get from R5-no stars to Legend.
With a 60% win rate deck every 100 games you win 60 stars and lose 40 stars, netting you 20 stars, meaning you need about 130 games to get from R5-no stars to Legend.
With a 65% win rate deck every 100 games you win 65 stars and lose 35 stars, netting you 30 stars, meaning you need about 87 games to get from R5-no stars to Legend.
You can see how even a couple of percentage points make a huge difference on the time you'll need to invest.
I have only 1 good deck - Zoo-lock. I made to rank 4, but I am unable to go further. Is there a chance that my deck is too weak to reach legend? Maybe ZooLock is only good to reach rank 5 and I should switch to something else?
Have anyone got to legend with this deck recently?
Edit: More info regarding my matches: for last 5 days, I played over 30 games. I am always struggling between rank 5 and 4, never had so much wins to reach rank 3.
Zoo is definitely not tier1 right now. When a new xpac comes out all decks are unrefined, and swarming aggro decks reign supreme. By this stage in an expansion's lifecycle there are a lot of combo and control decks that are polished enough to survive aggro more often than not.
Based on what you said (30 games leaving you between 4 and 5) you are having a win rate barely over 50%, which is about how the deck is doing in general according to the VS Meta Report (https://www.vicioussyndicate.com/vs-data-reaper-report-109/)
So yeah, unless you have the time and mental fortitude to slog through 350-400 games by the end of the month, losing half of them, I'd look for a different deck (Current tier1 is Token Druid, EvenLock, Odd Warrior and my favourite DeathRecruit Hunter)
I notice that Odd Warrior doesn't have enough removal for single minions but also wide spread boards. So I chose to use no Baku the Mooneater and just add more removal cards like Execute and Warpath.
What a month so far... As I predicted I wasn't able to play as much as last month (I've found the best way to ladder is a couple hours of focused play at a time, but that's difficult to do between work and life).
What's more, my favourite DeathRecruit Hunter has been underperforming... I did the Rank2/5stars to Rank4 roller coaster twice before deciding to retire him for now.
Luckily my slow, grinding F2P crafting bore some fruit and I finally assembled a working, if budget, version of Shudderwock Shaman (Hagatha, but no Hemet or Electra) and I must have hit the right moment in the meta because it is unprecedented for me to start playing a deck and immediately pilot it to 72% win rate (and as you can see from the screenshot I've barely played Shaman at all). Just hit Rank 1 with it.
Made Legend today, went to Rank 2 with Zerek Priest until rank 2, took a break doing arena and other stuff, then pretty much went on a win streak until legend with odd warrior since it was pretty much just aggro.
I faced all the boring same ol same ol decks, except for one deck at rank 1, which was a no spell Mage, though it did have that spell that draws and discards spells.
I have no idea if I'll keep playing, I've stopped playing every other time I've hit legend before. Facing copycat decks is one thing with a goal, I don't really care what my legend rank is so getting to a higher legend rank never interests me.
And I guess deathrattle rogue is more of a thing people play than before, unless these are whizbang decks since I thought the user created ones involved malygos.
So, this month was kinda weird for me. I hit rank 1 on day 12 with deathrattle hunter, but after that I switched decks a lot because I was not really eager to hit legend, cuz rank 1 resets you already to rank 5 and I already hit legend multiple times. So I played from day 12 on with different decks in the rank 3 to rank 1 area. Later on I sticked with Shudderwhock shaman till rank 1 again, and I actually wanted to hit legend with it, but I got countered, so I climbed to rank 1 3 stars then back to rank 1 1 star, again and again ..."how long can this go on?...", so I took the fast and cheap way with even warlock.
But still, this season did not feel like a grind at all even tho I climbed and dropped like the whole season.
@T3nectla I play Shudderwock as well...and I do pretty well but I seem to run into either 1. aggro that hits hard early or 2. The combo gives me fits.
What decklist do you run? If you wouldn't mind taking on an understudy I'd love to learn from you. My handle is Zaknaril#1820. Add me in game! I've been playing a LONG time but I've never managed it hit Legend. Thanks in advance!
I should stop playing this game. I have litterally 50% winrate since I hit rank 5 4 stars at the start of the month (from rank 6). I'm still rank 5 4 stars after playing tons of matches. F###

might do the legend run again this month, try with something a bit different maybe, dunno yet, we'll see.
Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.
Aaaaaaaaand back down to rank 5, no stars. 5 Shudderwock Shaman in a row. Sigh.
What is everyone using to climb?
Unbowed. Unbent. Unbroken.
And did it :). I actually wanted to start this friday evening of with a few fun games so I picked Deathrattle Rogue again and I unexpectedly got the needed wins in to Legend :).

I made it back to 3 today with Even Shaman. Whew it's hard work with no win streaks! Hopefully I can keep climbing.
Flamewaker is my all-time favorite card!

I had a great run last night with Shudderwock and I'm currently sitting at Rank 3 (4 stars). Still hate Droods tho........QQ
Flamewaker is my all-time favorite card!
If it makes you feel any better, dr00ds hate you back, with a vengeance :) (Except Togg dr00ds, they looooooooov u)

There is a lot of Zoo in the high ranks 'till Legend. Other decks are Deathrattle Hunter and Druid.

I am nowhere near near any high ranking (im around rank 15) people use all kinds of decks here so it is really hard to tech against everything.
But im currently going 6-2 with a deck I tinkered a bit around with.

* Azalina Soulthief for Shudderwock decks
* Cornered Sentry for Shudderwock decks and Taunt druid decks
* Drywhisker Armorer for Shudderwock decks, but also has great synergy with Reckless Flurry
* Faceless Manipulator and Carnivorous Cube for anything that gives me tempo (but I actually put it in the deck to counter some Hunter Decks).
* Weapons Project to counter weapons like Eaglehorn Bow, Twig of the World Tree, Skull of the Man'ari but it also has synergy with Harrison Jones and Shield Slam.
The only decks that it struggles with are combo decks or fast decks where you draw unlucky.

Hit legend today with a winrate of 59%.

It took a lot longer, with a lot of up-and-down between Ranks 4 and 2, but for the second month in a row I'm one of Will Smith's worse movies.
(with the traditional Shudderwock list (2 MCTs/Ooze, no Hemet))
EDIT: Amazing how the win streaks come only when they don't matter ^^
I should stop playing this game. I have litterally 50% winrate since I hit rank 5 4 stars at the start of the month (from rank 6). I'm still rank 5 4 stars after playing tons of matches. F###

Finally hit legend for the first time!
I´m aware it easier the last days before season ends but i dont care, im happy anyway.
Was playing an even paladin deck from rank 5 and it worked really nice with a 68% winrate.
