I check on this site daily, and often I find people whining about how this is the worst expansion ever. Oddly enough, they also thought the same about The Witchwood, about K&K and so on going all the way back to Mean Streets of Gadgetzan (when they did have a point).
Today, all I want to do is point out my experience in ladder. I'm a scrub; a casual player at rank 17 at the start of the month; and wanted to share the stuff I found on ladder over two days over the span of 15 matches in ranked standard:
Sadly, I can't put HSReplay data; it stopped working this morning. Whenever I try to start it it just says "HSReplay has stopped working"; and that's it. Even though you have to take my word for it, and it's admittedly at very low rankings; this still speaks about the diverse meta that we're facing right now.
This is the beginning of the season as well, when you'd expect tons of aggro players to start racing each other to reach legend; which is why I chose Odd Warrior to play, yet sadly my meta-reading was wrong. There aren't that many aggro deck around.
How's this the worst expansion ever, again? Is it that every deck has a counter so not one strategy can dominate? Is it the many viable archetypes all classes seem to have (except priest, RIP priest; and Pally with their Odd one-trick-pony), or maybe the fact that even FTP can just craft Wizbang the Wonderful and all of sudden stand a chance against netdeckers (like me)?
No. This is good. People who keep saying worst meta ever never played at TGT or old gods times when everyone and their mother played secret Pally or Face shaman.
I'm currently climbing with maly rogue and I'm having a blast. The only deck that 100% beats me is the "no fun allowed" warlock. With gnomeferatu oozes geist etc. Curse that deck. Apart from that I can beat anything with a bit of help from Rngesus.
Please don't remind me with this cancer! It was so annoying to play against secret Pally and boring to play it.
Its the start of a new season at low ranks of course you are going to see diversity. A week from now at Rank 5+ you will queue into the same shit over and over again. It's the reason why I ladder so casually now.
Idk ladder is pretty diverse, but pretty stale too, we're just seeing old archetypes being revisited mostly. But whoever reminded me of TGT and Karazhan metas, you're right, screw tunnel trogg and 4 Mana 7/7 haha. (Also the 3/6 inspire totem guy). Anyone remember DO YOU NEED SOME FISH
Then play odd control warrior which is pretty much auto win vs aggro decks. Choose decks according to the meta, so many people are stuck in their ways and wander why they can’t hit legend.
Being diverse is good but it doesn't change the fact that some match ups just feel bad to play. Namely standard shell druid is gross and quest rogue. It also doesn't change the fact that many match ups are very polarized and leads to feeling of playing rock paper scissors. It's diverse but that doesn't mean it is healthy.
While I agree that this is a diverse meta, what bores me is the lack of diversity within each deck itself. Everyone seems to be playing the same cards for each deck archetype, which makes everything a little predictable. For example, you know an Odd Paladin is going to play a Corridor Creeper and Vinecleaver at some point, or buff up his dudes with Level Up! Every Zoolock I face has the same set of cards, though they may elect to have The Soularium or not. Players piloting Quest Rogue ALWAYS have the same minions in their decks. So yeah, there are a lot of viable decks, but they're all cookie-cutter netdecks that'll fail to surprise you since you can play around what's in them.
You can get good win rates with new decks, but yes you will face mainly the same decks from the last expansion. This has been why I'm traditionally an arena player. Not that arena isn't stale at this point.
Speaking as a rank 5+ player (haven't ended a season under rank 5 since the last change), your results are dictated by your rank. At rank 5+, there is near-zero of the following decks:
Kingsbane Rogue
Spiteful Druid
Quest Warrior
Mage (of any kind)
Not to say you will never ever face these, but they are very rare, like maybe 1 in 10-15 games. Odd Paladin and Even Shaman are rare as well, but not quite as rare as the others. Right now, almost all my games are against one of the following:
Ramp Druid (Maly/Togg/both)
Odd Rogue
Odd Warrior
Zoolock
A few of my games (maybe 3/10) are against:
Shudderwock Shaman (tempo or combo)
Deathrattle Hunter
The other decks are more or less nonexistent. I don't remember the last time I saw a Priest.

I love Hearthstone right now.
And its still missing a lot of the meta deck

Only 15 games, really.
A) Tempo Mage
B) Zoo
C) Druid
EU player here, lol

The grass is always greener. People are just sick of facing druid and warlock every game

As long as many people are doing all the meta decks, I'll have fun laddering with my Mecha'Thun deck. As nobody techs into this deck :)
