First of all, I have been playing Hearthstone since 2014 and originally started as a free to play player, however about a year later I got frustrated and wanted to buy the expansions. I don't have a complete collection, but I do have my fair share of meta decks. I never thought I would push for legend, but after I broke rank 5, 8 months ago, it became an idea that I really wanted to achieve. I wanted to make this post because there is a ton of misconceptions, fake news, and important things to remember that I wish I had read before hitting legend.
Also the decks I used primarily where Odd Rogue, and Egg Hunter with the Katherina charge package (FYI this deck is my own flavor of the deck and I believe absolutely the strongest variation of hunter in the meta with tools to beat any deck you queue into which is fun because you don't have auto loses).
Misconceptions
-Biggest One "All you need to do is have an above 50.01% win rate to get legend after that it's all time". Alright very true BUT... Try playing Odd Rogue or any aggro deck when the meta is almost all teched against control decks and you will find your win rate drop dramatically. You can be playing a deck with a 70% win rate on hearthpwn but if everyone you play against is teched against your deck it is not uncommon at least in my experience to end the day 10 losses behind what you started with. Decks with the best win rates switch all the time and it's because the meta changes. The key is to think about what you are most commonly going against and what beats that deck the most often. When the Druids got too greedy, I switched to rogue and dumpstered kids, when people ran every possibly AoE and heal I switched over to a midrange deck which could finish opponents off with overwhelming value. What you really should consider is being 26 games ahead of how many games you lose at the end of the season. For me, it took around 150 games played meaning I won 88 and lost 62 giving me a 58.6% win rate on average, which sounds great, but believe me there were days where I lost 12 games straight in a row and told myself I would never push for legend again its a crazy journey but I wish someone had told me that its more about understanding the matchups and using that knowledge to improve your win rate.
- "Learn to play for the win" some games you just can't win unless your opponent makes a mistake other times you might be making a mistake by not dealing 1 extra point of damage by trading or not. I would recommend hearthstone replay to watch games you thought you should have won to see if there is something you could have done differently often times there is and this knowledge is an easy way to improve win rates for decks you love to play.
- "To much time" to be clear it does take a lot of time but not as much as many would think. I climbed from rank 7 to legend, this season in about 180 games and at 10 min per game that's around 30 hours spent in competitive ranked play, which is a lot, but not as much as many people in the comments would have you believe it takes. Also to anyone thinking about pushing for legend that has not already I would highly recommend it. I tried for 3 months and just now finally succeeded and I have to say it felt great. Plus legend itself feels like an oasis after the stress of climbing for so long. Many of the games I find my opponents playing fun variants of popular decks which brings the fun back into ranked mode at least for me.
Thank you for reading this post I love the Hearthstone community and I felt this really needed to be said. If there is anything that I forgot to add, please leave a comment.
Congratulations mate. Enjoy the turd coloured wonderful cardback. Well done for persevering through the Grind! ;)

And you're right, I really hate it when people advise "just play more games" regardless of winrates and then some other people show up to complain "this takes too long". No shit it takes a long time when your winrate is low and you're blindly spamming games rather than doing something about it. It's just terrible advice
Congrats! I tried to make it this season with my version of Spiteful Priest, but its too frustrating trying to climb from R5 imo. How do you stay motivated?
Congratulations! I've been playing since beta however the best I've gotten was rank 5 back when dragon priest was op =x, since then I've tried many times to grind it but I always get discouraged by a stupidly lost game or smth(also f2p) feelsbad
I am in a similar position but did not hit legend yet. I am just now realizing that you have to switch decks, but I can't seem to grasp the understanding of which deck counters which. After loosing a lot with odd druid, I switched to odd rogue, and now I got a solid 50% winrate on rank 3. Losing a star then getting a star... and so on..
This is usually the time I give up and play exodia mage or something. But maybe I'll try to push a bit more this month :D

Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.

I dont really get why ppl dislike the legend cardback. Its the most elegant yet minimal of them all, a nice representation.

Good job.
Welcome to the club!
Congrats . And welcome to Legend club
since you have become a Legend you must know Legends Charter of Honor !
Now Repeat after me :
( I Swear If I had a match against any Rank 1 Player , I will Concede .. )
And the most important :
( I Swear that I will NEVER EVER play ANY MEta or Net Deck ! )
Congrats! I tried to make it this season with my version of Spiteful Priest, but its too frustrating trying to climb from R5 imo. How do you stay motivated?
Unpopular opinion: Rogue is OP
Congratulations! I've been playing since beta however the best I've gotten was rank 5 back when dragon priest was op =x, since then I've tried many times to grind it but I always get discouraged by a stupidly lost game or smth(also f2p) feelsbad

LOL I love this man!
"I Swear If I had a match against any Rank 1 Player , I will Concede .."
" I will only use a net deck as a basis for my decks and not be a mindless pirate warrior!"
Welcome my brother
I mean no meta decks in legend ladder . LoL that's all ...
