I started to just put this into any one of the other 20 Priest threads, but they are mostly just salt mines, and I am hoping this one can stay on topic a little more, and offer me, and others, some ideas.
Priest is making quite a surge on the ladder, and I think that they will only get more dominate after next week. So what are some good ideas (decks, tech cards, strategy plays, ect) that can possibly counter them?
So far, my best (and its not been anywhere near good) counter has been to essentially mill them with a demon control warlock. I just try to survive early rounds, sacrificing demons as much as possible, and trying to get their health down. Usually, If I can get DK Gul'dan about the same time they get DK Anduin, I at least have a chance against machine gun hero power. I try to keep a couple big minions on the board, forcing them to gun those down, rather than gun me down. Of course with Gul'Dan hero power, I can get back to full health easily enough, and then its just a matter of hoping I can get to them to fatigue, and use my lifesteal to out last their machine gun (at some point, I run out of minions, and it becomes a face chomping race to the end.
I have tried to run Dirty Rat to get lucky and pull Raza, but its not predictable enough to use effectively. I have tried running Mindbreaker, but it is almost always removed, usually the same turn.
With other decks, I have tried to just face race them down, but their early game control makes this very difficult. (See the post regarding priests being "weak" against aggro).
I am starting to worry pretty bad about this change in the meta. It seems Priest really has come up with 2 very solid decks (Barnes bases, and DK Anduin based), that have few options for a solid, consistent counter. At least Jade had fairly consistent counters, with both a fairly cheap deck (aggro druid), and a somewhat solid working tech card (Geist) that could give most decks a little hope against them.
And to make matters worse, even building my own Priest deck to just hope to counter with mirror matches is out of the question due to the deck having such an enormous build cost since I have almost none of the required legendary cards.
Any suggestions?

I wanna glide down, over Mulholland I wanna write her, name in the sky I wanna free fall, out into nothin' Gonna leave this, world for awhile
You really ask for priest counters ? Every aggro druid, hunter, pirate , token shaman, exodia mage and murloc paladin beats it since priest has really bad starting turns if he do not draw a cleric , or a little taunt.. So there are like 5 classes that beat it on early game , so pick one .
Like he said, any aggro deck can easily beat priest most of the time. Since the pew pew deck has only one Dragonfire Potion and a Spirit Lash, you can usually just fill up the board and he won't have much answer.
I've found midrange Hunter to be particularly good at killing priest since you can have lots of 4 atk minions early and just snowball from there

I actually have less luck against them with aggro than I do with any other technique I have tried. Against Barnes priest, I "feel" like I have it under control, but as soon as the seemingly infinite lifesteal taunt minion wrecking dragons start popping out, they suddenly are back to full health, and I am out of bullets.

I really enjoy running minions specifically with 4 attack, just so Priests have a problem. Having a board can be really important against Priest, especially since spells tend to be Priest's thing more. Skulking Geist has proven quite useful against Priest, as small pieces like PW:Shield and Flash Heal tend to be really important. Mindbreaker seems to be something that people bring up concerning Hero cards. It could also be good to look into Nerubian Unraveler.
Best of luck.
Edit: Small things like Turn 1 Coin + Faerie Dragon tend to put a lot of pressure on Priest in the early game. Using cards like Faerie Dragon help preserve a board, and allow for things like Book Wyrm and The Curator to find a spot in your deck. Control pieces that are meant to give the opponent a hard time are my favorite.
Hi, I'm the one you are quoting. People saying that aggro decks counter priest are just probably playing under rank 10 vs incomplete priest doing big mistakes.
Priest is the new druid, only Tempo mage can do something (thx to 4 to 6 secrets, a few 4 attack cards like Kirin tor and Burgly bully, and direct finish damage not needing minions), but not much.
One other thing which counter priest is the expansiveness of the good priest decks (from 12000 to 14000 dust), and their late dominance in this extension, which mean people may have already spent their dust on druid/paladin decks, so there may not been as many priests as they were druids.
Here are the stats of the Razakus deck with Velen above rank 10 (note that these stats are over last 3 days, so there is 1 day pre-patch druid included) :

Kill them before the combo or play a lot of big minions after the DK, with only one card to remove big minions is hard to priest deal with many 8/8s.
Vs big priest is a flip coin, don't matter what you do, if the priest draw good you lose, if draw bad you win.
"
Except when they draw :
* Doomsayer
* Shadow Word: Pain
* Shadow Visions
* Kazakus
* Holy Nova
* Dragonfire Potion
*Shadow Word: Horror (eventually combined with Pint-Size Potion)
* Potion of Madness
* Spirit Lash

Come visit my Card Emporium. Strange things, you will find inside...
Come take the test, if you're daring. Feel free to show me your results in a message.
