anyone finds it VERY difficult (talking about low ranks, just started this season) ? dunno if its because of wierd decks or lots of aggro decks im facing, but i have more succes with classes i just stared playing with (shaman and paladin) then with deck i got rank 3 last season.
and how long did your average game last? 15-20mins? i rather play a fast deck to climb. besides facehunter with double owl and hunters mark is by far the worst machtup for handlock :)
@fellinghauer: Nice work. I wish I could say the same about hunters. I feel like unless I get the perfect draw then I'm screwed as it's really dangerous to tap against them.
While control warrior is fun, it's definitely not the quickest deck to ladder with. Zoo/hunter is just a popular choice because A) it's cheap, B) you can be done by turn 6, and C) it's really damn consistent. I don't like cancer, but there's no doubt it's an efficient killer.
Like someone said earlier, in the early ranks it is hard to rank up with a handlock deck. Mainly due to hunters being dominate in those ranks. I decided to stick to my handlock deck to get through these ranks, and it paid off. By playing hunter all the time I was able to increase my win rate from like 10% to about 40%. As of yesterday I got to legendary.
I really think that handlock is the most versatile deck. Outside of the hunter, I can beat every other class by over 60%. Many think that beating Shaman is tough with a handlock deck, but I have been fairing well. I mainly try to mulligan for sludge belchers, hellfires, shadowflame and ancient watchers and I am good to go. The reason I keep ancient watcher is because I have about a 25% chance to draw either a shadowflame, sunfury, owl, or defender. Then I try to bait out a earth shock or hex on my sludge belcher or a silenced/taunted ancient watcher.
Its really hard to ladder up the ranks using Handlock. I'm currently at rank 6 now coming from an 8 game winning streak using nothing but deathrattle hunter deck. Handlock is good at rank 5 above especially when playing against slower/control decks.
I would not say the meta is any better at rank 5 and up. Feels like about 30-40% hunter. However since other matchups are good, and most hunters are terrible it is still fine to play handlock IMO.

It depends on the server, in EU I'm rank 4, I played 10 games last night and only one was hunter, but I met 3 priests.
Reached legend with handlock a few days ago. The hunter match up is very hard but doable if you are able to drop all your taunts. I feel like only freeze mage is unbeatable for handlock. good luck
I remember to a game recently, I stabilized against hunter with 2 giants + defender, I started to think that I can actually win the game, then unleash + double hunter's mark quickly cleared the board...
I think the hunter matchup is draw dependent, I can beat them no problem if they have bad draw, if not, I do not see a chance. Also aggro mage is very difficult too.
I just checked my statistics, I started playing handlock after reaching rank 5, I only played 24 games. Out of it only 5 were against hunters and I won 3. I had a one turn kill just recently, the hunter put up 3 traps, but had little board presence as I could clear most of his stuff before. I had a belcher and 3 giants + Jaraxxus. He was waiting for me to walk into the traps, but I waited until I assembled the lethal, belcher was freezed, than the 3 giants hit for 24, Jaraxxus for 3 and soulfire to finish. He was pissed and spamming the threaten emote :)
Also just finished an epic game against a freeze mage, I could pressure her enough to draw some of her removals and I occasionally healed up. Also played Jaraxxus for that reason. Before breaking the last ice block, she casted her last fireball and I was at 8. I broke the last block and had to heal, I had to soulfire+mortal coil my Loatheb to be able to draw and got the Farseer. I went up to 11 health and I'm pretty sure she had a Pyroblast in her hand to finish me off. That was close :)
I only have 62,5% winrate so far, probably I will not reach legend because of that, but I think this is the most enjoyable deck in the game.
Just made it to legend playing almost only handlock (just used other classes for quests on earlier ranks). I think it works quite well, sure hunters is a problem, but that is also pretty much the only bad matchup. Dont have any stats, but would guess maybe around 40% win vs hunter. Which if would say is ok.
Worst ranks were probably around 4-5 since highest hunter density. After that you still meet lots of hunters, but also decks trying to counter hunter. Like priest, war, miracle, which is good matches for handlock.

Tried adding sylvanas for a couple of games also as I usually really like that card in control decks, but I think she is a bit slow right now. At lest in handlock.

even beyond rank 10 its really too slow - i recommend
ive tried aggromage, facehunter, deathrattlepriest, freezemage, missle warlock and handlock - nothing worked
I'm seeing tons of hunters around rank 5 so handlock just isn't working.

well my zoo takes 4-6mins on average - thats alot faster on the long run
Can somebody recommend a good deck to climb with that is not zoo or hunter?
Put your faith in the Lock. *Desideratus Bellum*

You really want to be playing anti-aggro in the lower ranks.
