So I've been trying to look for a Control warlock deck without the new card Void Lord, long story short I didn't open a single one of those big boys and I don't want to craft anything yet but I can't seem to find a list that doesn't contain this card, I know how strong it is and how much defense it packs but there has to be a list that uses all the other very solid control demons Warlock has to offer instead of just the Lackey/Void Lord pack, does anyone have a decent list without this cards? I don't want something that can or has reached rank 1 legend, just something solid enough and viable.
I don't have a Voidlord, but there's a Stonehill Defender in my Reno deck and I can pull one with pretty decent consistency.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
It's a late game wall that can be cheated out. There isn't a great replacement for it. Lock was a tier 3 deck before and probably still is without it (and might be even with it...). I'd try zoo if you want to play lock without it.
Might be the most annoying card to come out of K&C. Impossible to deal with for zoo-aggro decks. Necessary for control warlock.
I'm a little worried this card is going to ruin the meta, not because its op, but because it strongly encourages opponents to play non-interactive decks like Razakus and spell mage that can easily do lethal damage without minions.
If you have quest you can go for handlock/quest with cataclysm. Burns a lot of cards for you, but constant free tempo after portal is definitely worth it.
People say it's necessary because streamers play it. But we're just at the begining and the meta is not clearly shaped.
If you ask me it's not a safe craft. I mean the best case scenario is to play against an aggro/flood deck and to have this on turn 4 with barnes or turn 5 from the recruit cards. On turn 9 this card is as good as Sogoth the Slitherer (worse actually) and you didn't play Sogoth now did you.
Not to mention that it ruins most of your Bloodreaver Gul'dan's plays. Summoning 5-6 Voidwalkers is not good.
The irony with Voidlord is that it's good against aggro matchups, but at this point (turn 9) the aggro decks fail most of the time. So you would play 2 Voidlords just in case you don't draw them and Recruit them or summon them with the Warlock artifact? Just doesn't sound right.
I don't have a list yet, but I am pretty sure that any "Contolish" warlock that has 2 Voidwalkers and 2 Homunculus and 2 Dreadlords does pretty well against aggresive decks, if aggro is your problem.
I think Chewmass made some very good points. Don't let the other posters discourage you. I played a Control Warlock from rank 15 to 10 this season and I did not include Voidlord. Stonehill Defender is a very good replacement because you can often discover it. If you have the Warlock Skull weapon or Krul, you can still cheat it out early.
Definitely go for stonehill defender if he's not already in the list. Of you're a warlock main her one of the best cards in the deck so he's a for sure craft later down the road when you have the dust
This is my version of control warlock w/o Voidlord. It's not tuned yet, it's just a starting point as I play it more on ladder, but it's a good starting point for any control warlock deck, I think.
I do think that eventually the Voidlord / Master Oakheart version will prove to be superior to the versions without them, but only time will tell. I also am trying to make the deck work without them, because A: The Oakheart version cuts Gul'Dan and I like the demon package a lot, and B: I also don't have any Voidlords or Oakheart and don't want to craft them just yet.
Inb4 I strongly agree with everything this guy said:
1) expensive and thus sllow 2) the deathrattle kinda ruins the DK value 3) Believe it or not from the start I liked that 9 mana 5/5 legendary, because I also saw how you can control the outcome. But running too many clunky cards, and I'm not sorry for my words, doesn't feel like a worthy strategy. I think it's only popular atm, because the decks are (re)forming, but it's just that it doesn't look particularly strong to me (only benefiting from 1 good creature Voidlord). Sure, putting bunch of taunts is good versus fast decks, but against anything else... I think Oakhearth has a lot of potential to be powerful, but we need a bit more strong and kinda value/board impacting cards, which can be pulled out of him.
And I don't want to even start on commenting the weapon and making the competitive decks even more clunky.

summoning void Walkers back is pretty good the worst thing about guldan is when you can not play it because you would die.
Also sogoth is way worse it has no synergy and ist immunity is useless against aggro/tempo decks because they do not run spells that are good at removing it anyway also sogoth is so horrible against vilespine slayer
I'm running 2 version of cotrol Warlock and none of them has Voidlords. If you can cheat out early then it is really powerful but Possessed Lackey and Master Oakheart are both inconsistant, I always draw the lords before them. :D I don't think it is a necessary craft. But Bloodreaver Gul'dan is a must have in these days.
So one version has Lakkari Sacrifice and Cataclysm in it. I wrote a guide in the description, You can check here.
Since I refused to craft guldan I don't run voidlords in my control deck either. Mine is just normal Jaraxxus handlock with the new 4 mana 7/7:s and the 1 mana gain 8 health. So far has been working nicely :)
Yeah, I'm wondering if Jaraxxus can return to being good in this meta.. the thing keeping him down was Razakus, and if that deck falls out of favor, big J might come back.
Mr. J. was always my favourite legendary, but it's not just Anduin, it's also burn mage, which is getting popular atm.
I predict (at least I hope so), that if there is no support for burn decks post rotation, then Jarraxus will really make the cut. At least in my decks.
+ for now the DK is very secure, you get health in the forms of armor and taunt health (blocking psychical damage). There isn't much support for the poor Jaraxxus.

Its the card that allows Warlock to control again, you need it, there is no replacement for him.
Voidlord is the point of Controlock right now.

Why would you ever cut Gul'Dan in control warlock?????
OP, I could give you my list

The deck is far from perfect, it needs some adjustments, but for now I had great success with it 10 - 5.
Inb4 if you ask me Voidlord is a bit slow card, it's not a staple. Stonehill Defender is a more flexible card.
2) the deathrattle kinda ruins the DK value

The other one is the classic pure control with Rin, the First Disciple and Medivh, the Guardian. Here is the list without any explanation.
