Hey, sorry I was referring to the original deck of the conversation and also to standard. Your deck seems nice, I do prefer wild. In wild the sapphire spellstone will be a very powerful tool for Shamans. In standard there is pretty much one mediocre combo that would have been great three expansions ago. I really like the idea of the darkness. I think with a deck like Giants Shaman you gotta go the fun route.
Tried this right from day 1 of knc and found that not actually drawing your spellstones before having to burn your removal is quite literally an insta loss.
I opened The Runespear and wanted to make a deck I could use it in last week. Very similar to yours but a key card I believe you are missing is Ancestral Spirit . Use this in the combo and it is hard to clear your board. I won 11 straight games going from Rank 20 to rank 15 and facing every meta deck out there (even the heavy burn mage with Aluneth !).
Check out my version or continue tinkering with yours. Best of luck out there!
Any deck that runs epics like Snowfury Giant wont see play in Hearthstone. The reason is simple. You need to already have those epics in your collection since they arent versatile enough. Lets say you have an additional 3200 dust for an expansion. Why would you spend 800 dust on a card that will almost certainly only be used in one single meme deck. If you do that you basically denie yourself the chance of creating a "good" deck. Personally i would like to test more fun decks, but since i prefer playing decks that are consistent i simply dont have the dust for it. I even go as far as crafting Legendaries like The Lich King in gold. Basically i am "wasting" about 1600 dust per expansion on golden cards, but i'd rather play a golden LK 500 times then memeing for 50 games with a suboptimal deck.
At the moment i'm sitting at 4800 dust and could craft some shit. BUT: I'm having fun with the 4-5 decks im playing (aggro, zoo, 2*tempo, midrange). Any Control-deck i am considering would cost me at minimum 3200 dust so thats a no for me atm. Especially regarding the 'upcoming' rotation. Maybe i will craft some crap in 2 or 3 months. But to be honest, the best time for stupid decks are the first two months after the rotation. That will be the time i will craft some stupid shit. The third expansion of the year always has the least immediate impact, at least if they dont include broken shit like jades, patches and kazakus.
And regarding KaC i absolutely see a lot of potential, that many cards that wont see much play in the next 4 months will actually see play then!
I understand what you are saying and that goes back to the argument that dabbling into memes is fun until you lose 15 games in a row. BUT that is also how certain decks/archetypes come up. So, those who CAN experiment, say, without crafting the Giants, should sure do. Shaman is a very versatile class.
Now, in terms of spending your dust, absolutely agree. I would not condone crafting those two epics and you can certainly utilize your dust much better.
I am playing with the giants, actually i'm running one ancestral healing to create 4 giants with taunt and revive. I won't advertise for my deck but you can find it easily i posted not so long ago.
I'm always experimenting with Shaman but overload is still a flawed archetype and will probably never be truly competitive. There are just too many ways to blow up your own tempo and those times when that happens AND the opponent immediately clears the big 7/7, 8/8, or 7/8 minion just become devastating turns.
Still, there is some potential with Guild Recruiter, I think. I've combined that with the overload package, so I have early spells with the basic jade package and my only 4 cost minions are Flamewreathed Faceless and Hoarding Dragon. Card draw is problematic because shaman only has minion options in standard, which dilutes the recruiter pulls. It may just be best to ignore the overload side and build a spell based deck with the "Recruiter Package" and see where that goes. MTT could still be a good option, either way. I haven't tried that because I'm a greedy SOB. Right now it's always turn 1 pass, which isn't very smart on ladder.
Nice! I don't necessarily agree on overload not being competitive ''ever''. I mean, I do get your point, don't get me wrong. But we have seen shaman at the top utilizing the overload mechanic to an extend. I think they have all the right tools right now specifically to make this archetype work. It's all about finding that magical spot.
Healing rain for instance. You're able to establish and then keep your board healthy. Overload cards such as lightning bolt on the other hand allow you to clear a thread in the early rounds and develop one of your own. I think there's something missing here, not quite sure what it is. It's possible the snowfuries are not enough of a thread against some of the current contenders. So maybe arcane giants, elise and lich king can be throw in there. But then, what do we cut?
I've been tinkering with a Giant overload deck. I'm still light years away from anything even mildly optimized, but I do have a few scattered thoughts about it:
1) Zola the Gorgon is a pretty useful card for this archetype. Obviously an extra Snowfury Giant is a nice prize in the event that you don't draw your spellstones early, but it also gets great value with Thing from Below and Jinyu Waterspeaker. Which leads me to my second thought...
2) Jinyu Waterspeaker is a nice inclusion. You went with Healing Rain, which is obviously a great heal. But Jinyu has the overload effect and it has synergy with the aforementioned Zola the GorgonandSpirit Echo. I had a game against a burn mage earlier where I was able to heal face for 24 over the course of a couple turns and develop board presence.
3) I'm somewhat intrigued by Guild Recruiter. I know that we need overload in order to upgrade the spellstone and discount the giants, but in some matchups that can be prohibitive in the early going. With your deck in particular, Guild Recruiter would have a high likelihood of pulling a majorly overstatted minion like Drakkari Defender or Flamewreathed Faceless and leave you with a big board without killing your next turn. Edit: just saw that you mentioned this in your original post; my bad!
4) Lastly, Corridor Creeper is still pretty great, particularly in tandem with Volcano. I think it's worth making room for. This gives you a bit more of a midrange presence, which I think is necessary because Shaman simply can't compete with classes like Warlock in the long game.
That's a lot of scattered thoughts, I know. Certainly more than can fit into one deck, but I love the archetype and I hope we can find a way to optimize it!
The problem with Control/Slower Shaman builds is so many decks have very high tempo plays and while Shaman does have some great removal it just doesn't have ways to push back very hard unless you play board flood or Evolve decks.
Well, I give up. I think the spellstone is an incredible card and I hope control shaman gets enough support to be playable next xpac, but it's just not playable in a razakus and tempo dominated meta. Shaman removal has become ineffective relative to priest and warlock removal, and shaman lacks clean ways to deal with prevalent cards like bonemare and corridor creeper.
ps: Drakkari Defender is garbage. Six mana for 10 total stats in a 3 health meta? Congrats, you've given your opponent value trades and you don't have a turn 4.
You can take ideas from them, or simply copy one of the decks and adapt it to ladder play (they have probably added particular cards just to counter stuff they know others will be playing in the tournament)
My personal recommendation for anyone who wants to play this kind of deck:
2x Hex and 2x Devolve is a must if you want to win against control warlock
Feral Spirit is better than Drakkari Defender. You can play them on 3 and heropower next turn at least, defender's overload is just too crippling.
Flamewreathed Faceless is not good enough because it won't stop anything (unlike Earth Elemental) and because it isn't free (unlike the minions listed above)

That's Incredible!

I am having fun with the giants and some jade in wild, although most of my wins do not come from the giant combo but from a strong early board.
Maybe give it a try, feedback is most welcome.

Just my 2 cents about possible tweak for this deck:
Ancestral Healing + Injured Blademaster. First card can be used in giants combo - it's free "add taunt" spell, and that would matter against aggro.

I’ve been trying to get Spellstone Giant to work, here’s my list.
Fun, but flawed. It’s making for a very tough season!

If you're still interested on this, some players brought overload shaman to SeatStory Cup:

You might want to play Corridor Creeper as you can just play it for free and, therefore, have more 0 mana targets for Ancestral Spirit + spellstone (Thing from Below, Snowfury Giant, Corridor Creeper)
Flamewreathed Faceless is not good enough because it won't stop anything (unlike Earth Elemental) and because it isn't free (unlike the minions listed above)
You absolutely want all the AoE you can have (2 copies of Maelstrom Portal, Lightning Storm and Volcano)
You need more card draw, 2x Mana Tide Totem isn't enough. Options: Bloodmage Thalnos (works with AoE as well), Acolyte of Pain (good against control, can be comboed with Volcano)
