I keep seeing Theorycrafted decks about Exodia Uther. But I'm wondering if it's viable to slot him into a deck that isn't kitted specifically for him as a win condition.
The 5/3 lifesteal weapon and 5 armor effectively gives you 20 health over 3 turns, and it makes the silverhand recruits into soft taunts.
Yes, Tyrion is better as a taunt minion. But versus spell orientated classes. Do you think it's worth running him as a more heal orientated drop? Compared to say, Lay on Hands or Ragnaros?
The win condition is the cherry on top, the horseman alone act as a taunt of sorts, if you do not waste removal on them you will lose, letting you not worry about the opponent removing bigger minions.
All this testing is super fun, hope this meta sticks.
I've been using him in my control paladin deck which isn't set up to aim for him as a win con. I'm pretty happy with him so far. Getting 2/2s is a great upgrade and the immediate armor and lifesteal weapon keep you from suffering so much tempo loss in not playing a minion turn 9. I wouldn't consider him a straight replacement for any core card, but most control lists throw in a hodgepodge of different high cost minions to act as finishers, and I think he's a solid option in place of say a dragon or a giant. I still run Tyrion too. Might be a mistake to do both, but I think you need so many win cons as a control paladin that I can't afford to drop him.
From my experience, Uther of the Ebon Blade is great even if you aren't building your deck for the exodia combo. The lifesteal weapon is likely worth ~9 mana (15 damage weapon is worth about 5 mana (Arcanite Reaper), and 15 heal is worth ~4 mana (Greater Healing Potion), but those numbers are extremely debateable), the 5 armor is worth ~1 mana (Iron Hide), and the "Justicar Trueheart" effect of summoning 2/2s from your hero power is worth ~2.5 mana (since the body of Justicar Trueheart is likely worth ~3.5 mana). Given all that you get ~12.5 mana of value for 9 mana, which is plenty of value from the card even if it isn't your win condition.
Yes, he is very good. I wouldnt consider using him for any sort of OTK. There was never a point in time i would think it would be viable... However i think of him is as a 5/3 life steal weapon with a Justicar effect. Thats more than worth his cost. Not only do you get to pump out 2/2's all game, but they MUST be removed or else your opponent WILL lose. He should only be used in midranged and control.
Currently, everyone is trying out slow and greedy decks. In this fight, paladin and Uther will have troubles because Warlock and Priest have more reach with their DK's. BUT, once people drop the act and start playing zoo style decks and pirate warrior again you will see those greedy decks get punished. Once this meta shift happens, paladin will rise to become the best control / midranged deck.
Hi, even if the dekc in mys ignatur is abput exodia Paladin, uther can be slotted in any mid-range or late-game Paladin deck, the card is really strong even without taking in account the auto-win.....
My opinion It is a must for any Control Paladin decks, but it is not for aggro and fast midrange decks. It is really slow and the big problem it interferes with Tirion. Also, sometimes you just can't afford to play a card that sits in the hand before turn 9.
With all the lifesteal Paladin and most of the cards are taunt, or heal or taunt giver , Paladin level of anti aggro is almost insane as CW. But Paladin have much better Control much up. Control Warlock actually not a problem. You can wipe their battle cry board easy, and you can run Nzoth yourself and keep hitting him with all the 5/3 weapon you got. Control Priest is more of problem but Control Paladin just slightly unfavor. Control Warrior is just a joke. Jade druid can be tech with a Giest, and Control Paladin can hold on long enough. 2 equilty clear and 3 Sunkeeper sarim may stall alot of Jade. The only problem matchup is Quest mage, you have to play very aggressive.
Btw, i found Bonemane is perfect in Control Paldin.

He's good, but I'd rather run him in a more midrange oriented deck, as I think you get most value out of him as soon as he hits the board.
He's decent for sure. Better than I gave him credit for, at least.
