More like a quest of 'Get as high as you can with Paladin' in a season that the class isn't at its best. I am in no rush to get to Legend, since I was fortunate enough to have the card back already.
So consider it more like a personal bet of climbing as high as possible with a self made deck that changes through forum discussion.
During the early runs, I faced so much aggro from Warrior and Shaman that Bran was totally irrelevant as a 3 drop that just soaks 4 damage (or even ignored if the board was totally in their favor). I can see it working against certain matchups, but still more than half of my games are against aggro, where clearly Wickerflame was better.
The problem is Dragon Priest is a lot better, why don't play instead?
Paladin and hunter really suffer in this meta.
Dragon priest is better than dragon pali for sure but it curves poorly and often get shit on agro and combo decks. Renolock just shits on it if you don't have board by T3.
The meta is fairly full of poor matchups for dragon priest for laddering when you get into high ranks and start playing against slower decks it's much better.
Yeah I got to 5 last season with a renolock deck before getting shut down by all the aggro shaman. That's a match up the paly deck struggles with as they just fill their board at will with 3/4+ minions which paly doesn't have the board clear necessary to keep up with.
Frustrating times to be a paladin player for sure...

Nahhh, you got to get used to it. Every class has its time in the sun, some seasons later probably Paladin will get the good cards again. At least, playing Paladin now is more interesting than playing the meta decks. Added bonus points of being the only Paladin in my ranking up from 19 to 6.
Quite often. It's not as fast as it seems, plus Tirion is a better finisher than Leeroy, in the essence that in this kind of decks Tirion seals the deal because the initial minion waves costs the enemy resources. Leeroy is a fireball most of the times.
Good call. I always forget about the weapon and it has nice synergy with the pirates.
Another thought I had was Bloodsail Raider but seems like without a two drop weapon, that wouldn't be as good as with warrior. I'll let ya know how I like the deck.

No idea how I got to here, but made an account just to comment. I really love Paladin, but can't find anything solid. I wish I could make any of these lists, but I don't have Wicker. Any suggestions, or is he that necessary?
He is necessary for the last one. He is completely replaceable in the rest. If you are laddering before rank 5, try Acidic Swamp Ooze, another Aldor, or something that makes sense in the board trading pre-midgame.
Wickerflame is amazing in the warrior matchup and in every game that the opponent is faster and has to deal damage to get through your minions. Although he is not necessary in EVERY paladin list, he can easily go into ALL paladin lists and do work. If you'll stick with Paladin consider crafting him.
Edit: By the way, I am also running Rallying Blade instead of Argent Lance in my latest version.
Given the time left on the season and the work I have irl, I won't be making to legend, since I am stuck between rank 3 and 2 (the highest I got this season) with this deck
In high ranks where Reno stuff is more popular, you can swap an Acolyte for a Divine Favor, but the matchup isn't good. In general the deck is good against Aggro (and it can get better if you want), but doesn't have a good match against anything that is better in mid-late game.
Anyways, it's been a fun ride with Paladin, and the fun fact is that I kept a positive WR with all Paladin lists from 19 to 2, while the last list was clearly the best Paladin I've played in the meta right now. Note that I haven't played Anyfin at all, since during the early climb it was entirely irrelevant against Shamans, Rogues and Warriors with the Patches package.
I play patches to face patches. Plus I can almost support STB and a free buffed Corsair adds up to the taunt. The dream turn 3-4 (depending on coin) is equipping Truesilver and play a free 4/4 Corsair.
Don is not bad against slower matchups, since he can randomly buff a charger for lots of damage, or can create two threats for the price of one card, in case they run out of answers. If the question is if he is replaceable or not, then the answer is that he definitely can be swapped.
Priest is fine as long as you boost certain numbers to 4. You need to boost your Corsairs to 4, leave your Commanders at 4 and in general ride the number 4 train. Tough match, but not as tough as the reno thingies.
Don Han'cho is OK. Never made a huge difference, but he does create some pressure if played on an empty (or contested) board, and he can make Horseriders/Bruisers and Peacekeepers amazing.

From 5 to 4, with something completely different.
Oh wow... that's interesting! I love that deck idea! Gonna try that now and report back!

If you are trying the deck think about :
a) Argent Commanders/Sunwalkers
b) Smuggler's Run

N'zoth's first mate is all the difference in the warrior.
This deck seems to eat aggro shaman for lunch but I am getting killed by rogue pirate. Pretty strange.

Rank 2 with this:
ALMOST THERE GUYS!

Here's to a better next season.
So basically patches is so much powercreep that you play it even in this kind of deck.
If slower decks are already bad matchups, could there be a more relevant card than Don?

The question was, if he's good enough. I'm assuming he is supposed to be pivotal in longer games.
Is it only the reno duo which is bad or how is the priest matchup. Almost the whole deck is good for Drakonid Operative
Going to give it a go, but probably next season. Don't want to risk my rank this late.
Proactive cards, reactive cards tempo cards. It looks decent on paper at least but the value might be a bit thin.
