If chum gave all murlocs in your hand +1+1 it could have worked maybe. As it is murlocs just don't put enough value on the board unless you draw lucky.
I was also disappointed that patches was released as a pirate, and not as a murloc. Whenever they release new murlocs I try to make an aggro/midrange deck, but it never works. This time however, I got very close to a viable deck, actually. It's not yet well rounded nor has it the power to stick around among the top tier decks, but it is getting there.
I'm hoping that in the next few expansions we get enough to live the dream and make people salty... because people will be salty whenever they keep losing to any deck :P

Tried it too. Was too easy to get pushed off the board. The deck needs bubbles to harden up to AOE. But there is no room to add bubbles and no synergy with bubble cards.
Zoo murloc always need a 2-turn setup before they snowball (and often a 3-turn setup), which is much easier to deal with for mid-range / control decks or aggro decks with AoE (shaman / facehunter).
Back in Vanilla there was a Warlock murloc deck that was pretty strong, dubbed Beef Stew by one of it's builders. It was a very strong deck with good reach and could win early if not disrupted enough, and refill its hand pretty quickly if cleared.
But it died out as effective taunts came out and Healbot, and since then other aggro decks and midrange decks have become a lot more efficient which has edged them out. Also the nerf to Soulfire (used to cost 0) affected it a little.
But honestly, no one wants to be back in those days. We need balance with midrange, aggro and control, not another strong aggro deck

No one?
I like it when all archtypes are truly viable and all, but that is a very rare scenario. The meta tends to have stronger decks, because of stronger cards. I do want that at some point, for some period of time, murlocs become a real deck. Obviously not definitively, but like every other deck that ever existed that was high tier, be good at some point, not forever. I haven't experienced the pre-GVG meta, so it would be something new for me, and I love the theme.

I understand what you mean. It really was a very strong deck. I also forgot that losing Murk-eye from standard also hurt. But yeah, it was strong, and like you said, not forever. But I played it back then and I don't miss it. It had nuance to play well, but still wasn't nearly as interesting as some other strong decks since.
Edit: I should mention too, that WotOG was perhaps the first time that Pirates became viable, except the Deckhand in Oil Rogue. Before that Murlocs were more viable, even if not still necessarily strong.
The main difference I see is Pirates synergise with weapons, which have double synergy with aggro decks: they both trade well life for board control and have a higher damage output per mana compared to spells, alongside 2 or 3 turns.
Murlocs have stronger synergies, but only with other murlocs, and its really hard to keep Minions on the field.
Patches is a great News addition to Pirates, since it makes it easyer to have a pirate on latter turns by letting you cast 2 guys on 1, but aggro pirate was a thing before. See Trumps F2P in Old Gods If you dont belive me.
As we know, paladin had only one succesful archetype - OTK murloc, after murk eye rotation - it was basically screwed.
But well in paladin case
1.You dont have almost unconditional murloc with charge what is always summoned for free. and usually deals atleast 3-4 damage coz you must deal with other early shit (deckhand, buccaneer, weapon)
2.You dont have strong, viable early weapon,or cards like upgrade, that can support your weapon (light's justice, argent lance are shit) our only standard viable weapon is truesilver,i forgot about 3 mana 3/2 weapon, but is just 3 mana fiery war axe. Also there is no weapon that support murlocs.
3.You dont have retarded burst cards (ok,now its rant) that support aggro archetype.
For shaman...well aggro shaman with package,or jade/midrange are just better than any other archetypes,so why bother to create anything other?
Better tools,synergies etc.
But i hope a murlocs will never be a thing, coz it will be another aggro abomination like pirates.
If murlocs become to prevalent blizzard have effectively killed them by having Hungry Crab which is a huge tempo swing and as its in classic wont rotate out (unless Ben Brode changes his mind).
Its notable that Hungry Crab is a one off archetype (im discounting Rend Blackhand here) there is no Mech, Beast or Pirate destroyer the closest tech card is acidic swamp ooze i believe.

Murlocs have better tribe synergy than Pirates have. But I don't know any great Murloc deck. What's the reason behind this?
"Sit and come relax, riddle off the mac. It's the patch."

Not sure why they gave the murloc elven archer such garbage stats. It might be playable at 2/2
2 versions of murloc are quite decent at the moment. My fun version that wins is http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/699061-shhhhmrgl. Also try the new style Anyfin Can Happen deck.
Many pirates also have synergy with weapons, don't forget that.

If exists a murlock like Patches you will see a lot of murlock decks.
The same for dragons, beasts, mechs, etc...
Patches is broken.

I promise you now, there will come a time when murloc get an OP expansion either this year or the next. Just wait!
Seriously, I hope, and I'm trying to up in the ladder with only Murloc deck. So, Wait and see !!!
Because, there is no Patches The Murloc.... :)
