At least, that's my initial impression. Mage quest seems amongst the bottom tier for the quests.
I've yet to live past turn 9. Rogues and Hunters easily complete their quest, usually by 5 or 6, and you've yet to even FIND 6 spells let alone cast them.
Oh and if you complete your quest you STILL need more pieces to actually win unlike the really good quests which basically auto win once they complete.
I do think the quest is VERY fun but this meta is looking insanely fast and all the methods to find and use cheap spells are off tempo and slow.
Its fun, still working on tweaking it but the exodia mage / ttk mage is a pipe dream. The first game I played with it I somehow got all the pieces against a slow druid deck and it was so satisfying. After that its just not possible to occur on a regular basis to be meta viable.
I have been playing around with doing a mixture of elements and time warp seeing if their is some tempo deck that can handle the heavy aggro. Mixed results so far but it seems like that is were the potential of mage is. If it doesn't work out then mage is bottom tier till next xpac because they have nothing else to handle the power of these other quests.
Are you sure otk mage isn't viable? I've been winning a good amount of my games (67%) though granted I'm only at rank 15 right now so probably just playing against bad decks.
I refused to rank until ungoro was out and from rank 18 (didn't bother too much last season with all the jades and pirates. Yuck.) and I managed to get to rank 15 in an hour or less.
Not too much and not impressive at all but I believe that people, me included, are focusing too much on the combo otk thing instead of just the immense value that 2 turns in a row can give.
in fact most of the times I won simply because I had 2 giants and 2 fireballs, or my iceblock wasnt popped and I set for lethal with 1 cost fireballs from antonidas +3 apprentices.
Only 2 times outta ~10 matches I actually got the combo.
I believe we still have to find the right equilibrium for the deck.
obviously the random spells count almost too much for you to win and that's a very bad minus.
I don't think it'll be a tier 1 deck, maybe a 2 2.5.
i'll see if adding Yogg will help somehow but I actually wouldn't know where to put him.
I got totally destroyed with my Priest. First by Antonidas Combo than another Mage played the 2x Arcane Giants + Alex next turn combo. Both games I had 30 health. It´s soooooooooooo stupid again. Fun and interactive. I had such a great board and hand =(
This makes me leave the game again till the next expansion or nerf.... but that stupid quest stays for 1 year =(

What has everyone's impression been so far?

Rip reno. You will be missed in this awesome meta (and now you could actually be helpful without really being annoying)
Just remember the good times!
Thanks for confirming my suspicions, I might save dust and skip crafting.
Too bad blizz never buffs cards, they could probably make it work if they reduced number of spells, 6 is too high

Is quest mage already dead? Didn't see it on the ladder at all today at rank 8 & 7.
