I'm playing a pretty standard Beast x1000 Hunter deck, and I'm short one Savannah Highmane. I replaced it with Gladiator's Longbow as a placeholder but it's been so useful any time I've drawn it. I have won games off of topdecking it that I would not have won if it were a Highmane. I have never once seen anyone mention this card. Am I having isolated uses for a crap card or did I come across some super secret tech?
Well considering the hunter has no other 7 mana cards it doesn't stop any drops unless you didn't have highmane on turn 6 it is pretty good. I think of it like a 5 damage charge or effective removal since many 6 drops like black knight, cairne and slyvanas are all 5 health. Overall, keep using it if it works common sense right? :)
As the meta has started shifting towards anti-hunter/zoo decks at my ranks I could see the bow being an amazing tool for removal or finishing blow. Considering most people won't play more then 2 minions at a time against hunter the bow allows you to remove one threat and Deadly Shot the other threat with no damage to you or you minions. Realistically it's not something you're going to play until turn 10+ most of the time anyways so as long as you can do both at the same time (which you can) it's a pretty good replacement for a Highmane.
Immediate use, doesn't hurt hero, can kill 5-toughness minions which there are a lot of in the meta. Vulnerable to Harrison Jones, Acidic Swamp Ooze - yeah, Ooze might be played out by the time turn 7 rolls around, but people will hold Ooze in case of Eaglehorn Bow even through turn 7 possibly depending on hand and draw, and if they see you playing a ton of secrets.
On the other hand, Savannah Highmane combos with cards like Tundra Rhino, Scavenging Hyena, Starving Buzzard, Kill Command. On the other hand, it's slow, unless you do Savannah drop one turn followed by Buzzard/Rhino, or Rhino/Scavenging into suicides or something.

If you find my posts to be rude, objectionable, or whatever, well, I got tired of writing polite TL; DR (Too Long, Didn't Read) posts at crybaby whiners. So now I just make it short and nasty.
If you find that funny, well and good. If you find that sad, that's even better.
Highmane will be THE only choice once Naxx is upon us.
For now though, the real question is as Aardvark put it, do you want the versatility of delayed answer/board presence or immediate answer with no presence. That's ultimately the choice between Highmane and the Longbow at the moment.
I wonder if late-game hunter will ever make it back into the meta. I suspect that with draw-magedon Hunter really can't survive to late game (fatigue death) with that combo still in...
I take it all back. I crafted another Highmane and taking the Longbow out for it has made a world of difference. Maybe I'll try them side by side one day but it's really tough to cut a card.

i've seen gladiator's bow played in some midrange hunter lists as a replacement for 1 savannah. i dont think is new tech, just uncommon.
It's not commonly used, partially because most people who run hunter are doing so because it is cheap, and hence don't have that epic.
Unless explicitly stated, my posts are my opinion and mine only.
The cards to expensive and really mana inefficient, there are much better cards to play that turn or for that mana.
if it cost 5 mana it would be massively playable and at 6 an option
At 5 mana, Warriors will play it even without the immunity.

IMHO once Baron Rivendale makes it into the game Savannah Highmane is going to look even more enticing...
